  1. So we are getting Canelo vs Trout on April 20 in San Antonio. De La Hoya was saying 15,000 seats sold already and they expecting to shift at least 35,000 for the fight. I'm really looking forward to this one. Canelo has gotten better and better with each fight. Trout in his last fight against Cotto was superb and to see two guys not even in their primes yet, both unbeaten and world champions fight is a special thing. Canelo has been made a strong favorite but I feel it's a 50/50 fight. If anything I'm leaning towards Trout taking it.

Mayweather/Guerrero will be shown on box nation.

Another interesting fight made is Bute going up to 175lbs to face Pascal in Montreal on May 25th. Not sure what has happened with Dawson as he was scheduled to face Pascal, but it should be a good fight.

  2. Broner going up two weight divisions to fight for the title after only two fights at 135lbs is interesting to say the least. I thought he would stay between 135-140lbs for the next couple of years. I expect him to beat Paulie and what happens from there is anyone's guess. The thing is if he stays at that weight division people are going to be clamarring for him to face guys like May, Pac, Bradley, Marquez, Guerrero, Alexander, Brook, Berto and so on. The 147lbs division is stacked. He would always go up there, win the title and drop down if he feels his body is able to, but if he was to destroy Paulie I'd be very surprised to see him wanna put his body through it and come back down. One thing it does do is gives up a much more realistic prospect of him facing Pacman or even better yet Money May somewhere In the next 18-24 months.

  3. Broner was superb yet again. He's an entertainer on top of a boxer, he is putting it all out there and it's working. He was respectful in his interview with sky, but it's all a persona. Some of the shots he hit were devestating and hopefully a fight with Burns or Vasquez will happen so we have a huge unification fight in the summer.

  4. Hopkins/Cloud also confirmed for IBF title at 175lbs as Hopkins bids once again to be the oldest world champ in history.

Hopefully Froch/Kessler II is at the O2, would prefer not to travel up to Manchester which is the other venue mentioned to watch it. Another explosive fight and I see Froch winning a tough points decision.

Burns/Vazquez is another fight which should be great. Hopefully the winner will go on to face Broner if he gets past Rees sometime this year.

It's a shame we won't get May/Pac but we will still be treated to some big, great fights.

  5. He fought guys like Hernandez, Castillo and Corrales to name a few early on to win world titles. He has taken big and risky fights but that was more in the past. Now it's all about analysing and getting a big fight, but knowing you can beat the guy. He could have fought Cotto back in the day, but Cotto himself admitted before he fought Mayweather that he didn't want the fight back then as he wasn't ready. There was always a lot of talk about Margarito, but knowing what we know now, I don't think that can be thrown at Floyd's door. The fight between Pac and him should have happened in 2010 at some point. Both are to blame for it, I just think Floyd will regret it most when all is said and done.

I'm not doubting Mayweather's ability, I'm simply saying that if he wishes to be regarded as an all-time great he should have actually been fighting rather than fucking about with fake retirements and shit like that.

Pacquiao's legacy won't be as damaged by the lack of a fight with Mayweather as much as Mayweathers will by a lack of a fight with Pacquiao in my opinion. As I mentioned earlier, over the past five years Manny has been fighting the top talent and has been part of some of the greatest fights I've ever seen. Mayweather simply hasn't been.

When the dust settles and fans are looking back in 15-20 years time I don't think Mayweathers name will be up there with the likes of Pacquiao, Barerra, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns etc. He simply hasn't been involved in the classic fights that fans remember.

He'll undoubtedly be remembered as the guy who didn't ever lose, but he'll also be remembered as the guy who chose his fights very carefully. Still he'll have his shoeboxes and his rapper pals, so maybe he won't give a fuck.

I think Floyd's name will be there. He has fought almost any fighter that came in his path. He did very well to market himself, after being labeled as a crybaby. He made a great career, he fought top guys, did what he needed to do, besides fighting Pac.

  6. Unless Floyd gets the majority of the money, ie say at least 75 percent in his favour I don't see him doing or even considering it.

I read recently that Pacquiao was willing to take the a 45/55 split or something like that to make the fight. Fuck knows if it's true. But of course, that was before he got KO'd so now he'd be expected to take much less of the share. And also the demand for the fight has taken a big hit with Manny coming off back to back losses.

I agree they're both equally to blame for their parts in the fight not happening. I still think a massive share of the blame lies on Bob Arum's wrinkly, sun burnt shoulders though.

I do think Floyd was probably thinking it simply wasn't worth the risk though. I pretty much gave up on the possibility of them fighting even before the Pac/Bradley fight so I'm not expecting it or anything.

Pac confirmed it was true, he also said he would take random drug testing with no cut off point, something he never agreed to at the beginning, but he did in the end. Aurm doesn't want Mayweather to have the power and likewise Mayweather won't let Arum have the power. It has been a vicious cycle from day one and it will continue. Unless something memorable happens over the next 30 years, this will go down as the biggest fight that should have ever happened in the sport, that never went down in the majority of our era's on this forum.

  7. I think Flotd believes he would beat Pac, but he knows its a risk to the thing he has built his whole career on, the one thing that he believes defines him as the greatest, the 0 on the end of his record.

The sad thing is, protecting that "0" at the end of his record is what will ensure Mayweather is pretty far down the list of real greats when the history books are written. He can sit in his big house with all his money in shoeboxes and 50 Cent telling him he's the best, but he's fought five times in the past five years. When people talk about the big fights they all want to see he's mentioned in relation to Pacquiao but that's about it. Mayweather doesn't excite me. He's never taken the risky fights in his career, and he won't start at age 35.

To put it into perspective, Pacquiao has fought thirteen times in five years, waging wars with the likes of Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto and Marco Antonio Barerra and has held titles at six weight classes. He should look at putting together the fifth and final fight with Marquez. Fuck Mayweather. I don't even want to see that fight anymore.

If Mayweather's intention was making a shitload of cash, then he's done it. If he wanted to cement his name as one of boxings greatest, then he's failed in my opinion.

  8. Oh absolutely. But in some ways maybe the Floyd vs Manny fight is actually more likely now for that very reason. Maybe Floyd, in seeing Manny get sparked by a 39 year old, will think the time is right to put Manny's name on his resume. Maybe he'll see Pacquiao, as ripe for the picking now. The fight would obviously not be as big as if it took place in 2009 but would still be a huge payday and in Floyd's eyes probably sees it as an easier fight now than it would have been back then.

Reminds me of how Sugar Ray bided his time with Hagler and only took the fight when he felt Hagler was slipping and the fight would be less risky.

Unless Floyd gets the majority of the money, ie say at least 75 percent in his favour I don't see him doing or even considering it. Back then he was scared, he couldn't believe what he was seeing Pac doing and he believed he was on the juice. Now Floyd is my most fav fighter off all time along with Lennox Lewis. Both are to blame, Floyd wanted it all his way, Pac wanted the drug testing cut off by a certain point, it was all about power and no doubt both had a little fear about what the other bought to the table.

I agree with you some what about Sugar Ray, but the difference is the weights Pac came up, not only was he banging people out, he was destroying guys like De La Hoya, Hatton and Cotto. That's enough to put the fear to any great boxer, let alone a boxer who lives for the 0 on his record.

  9. I'm in agreement I also think May would have beat Pac, but Pac is the one guy Floyd has serious doubt about and it's because of the left hand. If you can make 40M per fight against guys you are almost certain you believe you'll beat, why risk it all to face a guy who has the style and punch that could take you out. I think Flotd believes he would beat Pac, but he knows its a risk to the thing he has built his whole career on, the one thing that he believes defines him as the greatest, the 0 on the end of his record.

  10. That looks the option for Floyd as he wants to fight on both mexican holidays next year, but he fought Cotto on Mexican day back in May, so who knows. He dodged a bullet here though, he may have missed out on 100m+, but he can make that up in two fights with what he generates and not have to take the biggest risk of his career against Pac.

  11. I also forgot about the Kessler fight. Anyone know if it has started yet?

Can't wait for Pacman/Marquez VI tonight. Marquez is looking in the best shape I've ever seen him in and Pac looks like he has regained the fire inside and seems set on taking Marquez out so that there is no confusion. I just think with the way Marquez fights, Pac is always going to have problems with him and I can't see it being anything but very close again. I go with Pac to win another close decision and once again get the W with a sense of controversy.

  12. I can Broner vs. De Marco being similar to Mayweather vs. Castillo fight from years back. Broner couldn't have picked a tougher fight for his 135lbs debut, facing the best fighter in the divison and someone who has quite the reach advantage on him too. It's a close one to call, I think Broner's slickness will be the difference and he'll take a close points decision.

Looking forward to Froch fight too. Should be fun whilst it lasts, I expect Froch to win via a late stoppage.

  13. Adam Booth spoke about the Vitali situation before Vitali said what he said in the interview above and confirmed they told Klitschko camp they would fight Chisora in July and then Vitali in September. Vitali's camp refused and that's why it's not happening. Haye's camp really do want to do everything there own way and some how with the money that will be on offer for both of them to get it on, it be stupid of both men not to make it happen.

  14. Khan doesn't help himself when he makes comment like "I'm a superstar" to the world. He's a good fighter and has a big heart but needs to improve a lot if he is ever to go down as a great once his career is done. Some of his comments at times are childish, but he isn't alone in that. I think Froch was wrong to come out with "he would retire if he was Khan comments" I know what he was trying to get at, but you don't retire when your 25 because you lost a world title fight when getting stopped on your feet. Khan still has plenty of time in front of him and come back stronger for the loss. He made a mistake and got punished royally for it. It's boxing, most of the greatest fighters of all time have bad losses on there records. I can see why Khan rubs some the wrong way, I'm not his biggest fan but I do like his boxing style and he has a good attitude when it comes to being the best he can be. He needs to get his camp sorted out, he was sparring some really big guys in camp, which I found a little bizarre and he also needs to realise he isn't Pacman in the ring. Hopefully he can get the rematch straight away against Garcia and put things right.

  15. That was a brilliant finish. It was really the only way you can take a guy like Chisora out, Haye's power is frightening.

Yeah, his power combined with the speed advantage done Dereck in. I think most people, I'm sure me and you posted, that Haye's speed would win him the fight but I thought it would be on points most likely due to a combo of Chisora's toughness and Haye's time off maybe making him a tad less sharp. But he couldn't really have dreamt for a better finish there.

Even if the Vitali fight doesn't come off now, which I really hope it does, that's not a bad way to go out at all is it. In front of a rabid crowd, in the biggest domestic heavyweight fight in years, and putting out a tough guy like Del Boy with a highlight reel combination. And cashing in well in the process. He'll be happy with that. A Vitali fight would be the icing on the cake though and would be the most meaningful fight he could go out on at this stage.

It's the way to take a guy like Chisora out. That's the problem with the style Chisora has is that when he gets in close he has to throw some bombs and we all know how good Haye is punching on the back foot, and especially when he moves out of the way of a on coming punch and leans forward to land his blow. I thought Haye in opening two rounds or on points beforehand. Chisora became more wilder as the fight wore on and that's suicidal against someone with the power of Haye. Now I know why he comes in at 15 stone, as regardless if he is 15, 16, 17 and so on it doesn't matter as his power is just there.

It's better to go out that way then the way it looked like he has against Wlad. I think he needs to Vitali fight bad, it must haunt him still the performance he put in against Wlad last year, the injury or not and it certainly didn't help but he didn't go for broke at the end when it was clear he was going to lose the fight on points. Funny thing is if he did get Vitali and somehow managed to win the fight, then he could get the rematch against Wlad which i'm sure he wants but he knows he'd have to beat older brother first to get it. Whatever happens in Haye's future from here on out, there's no doubt he had a great career and he did it his way.

  16. That was a brilliant finish. It was really the only way you can take a guy like Chisora out, Haye's power is frightening. Good to see it all squashed afterwards and time to move on from the dramatics of Munich. Haye/Vitali needs to happen, I would like to think after seeing that Vitali will be more keen to fight Haye and not worried. Atmosphere was electric, one of the best I've heard in many years following boxing. Hopefully Khan/Garcia comes close to that in terms of excitement later tonight.

  17. if Khan wins tonight I'd expect him to have one fight at 147lbs and then a shot at Floyd. I'd take Floyd to win the fight all day long, but it would be exciting, its one of the few fights left out there for May at this point. I've finally let go the thought of him and Pac getting it on.

  18. I think Haye will either win within two rounds or on a points decision. Can't see Chisora being able to handle the speed. Khan should have too much for Garcia, I take him to win by late stoppage or wide points decision. Talk of Khan/Mayweather in December, hopefully Khan isn't looking past Garcia as he seemed to be when fighting Peterson last time round. Should be a good night of boxing.

  19. Oh right, cheers. Didn't know it was off altogether.

The undercard situation is something that's always frustrated me about Boxing. It's all up in the air right until the last minute most of the time. I know with a fight like this they could put Les Dennis vs Paul Daniels on the undercard and it wouldn't really matter, it will sell regardless on the strength of the main event. But it would be nice to have the full card announced a bit further out. It can't be that difficult they've had months to get it sorted.

edit - actually Les Dennis vs Neil Morrisey would be better. Revenge match for Les. Between that and Haye/Chisora it would be a real night of grudges.

It's just typical with boxing, we rarely have a card under the main event that interests us. I'll admit I could less about Povetkin/Rahman not being on the card, yet if it was a UFC card I'd be bothered.

  20. They were gonna do the Povetkin/Rahman fight on the undercard but it's been moved to Germany I think.

Rahman had to have surgery so pulled out of the fight. It might happen again sometime before the end of the year, but who knows at this stage.

  21. People like the hype before a fight and we all know stupidity sells. Morally the fight isn't right after what happened, but things like this have happened before and will happen again. The build up beforehand will be more exciting then the fight itself. Haye will just use his superior boxing skills to keep Chisora at bay and win a wide points decision.

Yeah, I know it'll sell, and I'll watch it as I'm a combat sports hardcore fan, but I wouldn't be forking out to see it on PPV, that's for sure. I already have BoxNation so I'll see it through that.

I have it too and kept it another month with this fight in mind. Not much I would shell out for on PPV nowadays, you remember the Haye/Harrison build up/complete nonsense/fight? I think majority of us knew what would happen but it still sold loads, I gotta give Haye his due, he does know how to sell a fight.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Chisora has a chin like Enzo, not in the slightest. More I can see him approaching the fight in a similar way

I can see him approaching it similar but he always keeps his chin down, one thing about Enzo is he would stand tall and leave his chin hanging.

You think? I see Haye by knockout. I see Chisora letting his heart rule his head and Haye will catch him like he did Enzo all those years ago.

The one thing I don't question about Chisora is his chin. The guy can take a punch and I'd be amazed if Haye knocked him out. I think something we can all agree with about Enzo is his chin has been gone since that Haye fight. Enzo likes to fight with his head up, Chisora has a good defence, keeps his gloves up high and chin low. It be spectacular if Haye could knock him out.
