  1. ย This is an absolutely stacked card with the last 3 fights all very exciting and all very hard to call.

The main event is very close, O Malley is a knock out specialist and hasn't had many grinding fights. Chito has never been knocked out and can really find that 6th gear in five round fights. Yet O Malley is the favourite coming into this fight despite the above and despite the fact he has a loss to Chito. I am excited for this one.

We don't know what BSD's ceiling is and we don't know how motivated Poirier is these days, he seems to only want big money fights or title fights, the fact he accepted this fight was very out of character. Neither know how to have a boring fight so this is going to be a war.

I love Kevin Holland and I love when the UFC sign big name fighters from other organisations, add in the fact that MVP is British, this for me makes Holland vs MVP must viewing.ย

I love the prelims and other main card fights too.

My biggest annoyance with the UFC right now is when they put good fights on the early pre lims (which I don't watch as I don't have fight pass) but then give us a fight night card with absolute dross from top to bottom. I wish they had Michele Perreira fight on one of those boring Apex cards that we have had recently instead of putting him on a time slot that I won't even watch.

I remember buying all those first UFC shows on VHS. Was it WH Smiths that stocked them? Cant remember where I bought them from, maybe HMV or Virgin sounds more likely. Between these official ones, and Bob Barnatt's (?) complilations from Japan, my younger self would watch them all seemingly on a weekly basis. The good ol days!

I bought the VHS of UFC 1 from Virgin Megastores in Cardiff so maybe that's where you got them from.

  3. Yea the card isn't the strongest but definitely not the worst card of all time. It's not even the worst card of the year. It's good for an apex show.

Chris Gutierez stock has fallen massively, it's crazy that he was on a bit of a run and had a massive win over Frankie Edgar, one loss and he's on the prelims of an apex show. Rough stuff.

I love Bobby Green so I can get behind a Bobby Green main event even if he isn't on that much of a run. Grant Dawson is a weird one for me, I know for a fact I have seen him fight numerous times and I know he has a great record but I couldn't tell you off the top of my head any of his previous opponents, that's how forgettable he is as a fighter.

From looking at his record he has missed weight a few times so that has probably stopped the UFC getting behind him despite his winning streak.

Yeah I think itโ€™s gonna be a very tame buildup and much different to the Magny fight. Like you say, thereโ€™s nothing to pick an argument about when it comes to Luque. Plus theyโ€™ve been teammates in the past at Kill Cliff so I doubt thereโ€™ll be much shit talking.ย

Which one has left Kill Cliff? I thought both were still there.

  5. I'm all for the rematch, the women's 125 lbs division has been so historically one sided that I am very happy for these 2 fighters to take all the time they need to settle the score.

I hope the UFC don't put Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot against each other as it would be a shame to eliminate one top contender. I'd much rather see them put in winnable fights to keep both their momentum going. Obviously there are no gimmies in this sport but a favourable match up for both wouldn't go amiss. Both kind of need a blow away performance after their last fights.

Scoring wise I had Valentina just a tad ahead on the score cards but it really could have gone either way.

It's a shame because this fight was so tight and so close that a draw is absolutely the correct decision in theory, however, how we got that result is what is controversial and what will be remembered.

One thing that I would like to see changed with judges scoring that I don't ever see championed is more draws for a round. We never see a round judged 10-10 or 9-9 (excluding point deductions), I don't even think it's allowed (winner gets 10 points, loser gets 9 or less).

If this was implemented, I am not sure what the knock on effect would be to fighter tactics, would it cause more fighters to settle for a draw in the final round if both previous rounds were even? Would fighters be more happy to coast a round in a 5 round main event? The fact that a razor close round has to have a winner is always going to cause criticism to the judges.

  6. I've been late to watch this show and I have only just finished it now but what an absolutely amazing show right up until the main where it turned into a bit of a one sided snooze fest. I love Sandman and I think he was just being safe so i will let him off but that main event was poor. My finger was hovering over the fast forward button many times during the fight, I did fight the urge to press it though.

The rest of the show was incredible, I have never seen so many anaconda attempts on one show. I'm pretty sure every fight had at least one attempt of it.

I'm not sure if Sandhagen has done enough to fight for the belt next, there are too many other people ahead of him. Personally I'd like to see him fight Yan again and try to avenge that loss before moving onto a title fight.

  7. Great write up.

Unfortunately Jack Della Maddalena's new opponent has had to pull out. He has been diagnosed with moyamoya disease, a rare blood vessel disorder in the skull, which showed up during the pre-fight medical exam.

Looks like that fight is off.

Also, why did they induct Robbie Lawler into the HOF, the same week of his retirement fight, the poor guy can't celebrate the induction properly. He wouldn't have been able to enjoy a nice beverage.ย

Despite the drop outs, this card is still stacked. I am very much looking forward to it.

  8. I never thought Dern would make her way to a title shot as I thought she was a one trick pony, however, after last night, I think she is one top 5 win away from getting a shot at the champ, the UFC obviously love her so I think she only needs one win to get a shot. I actually think if her next fight was for the title I don't think that would be the most crazy thing the UFC have done.ย

Fantastic show from start to finish, I skipped the Godinez vs Ducote fight on the main card and it sounds like that was the right call, every other fight pretty much delivered.ย

Coscoe looked great on Dana White's contender series, it just hasn't worked out for him or his brother in the UFC, I guess I fell for the DWCS hype packages before their fights.

Chase Hooper is so fun to watch and I will always cheer for him but he is not good at all, any fighter who loses to him should get cut. He is easy to hit but hard to put away. If you are getting out struck by Chase Hooper you should quit the sport.

  9. Yeah I have very little interest in seeing a 2 hour documentary on him. I can't even get past a 2 minute Youtube/Twitter video of him anymore.

The only intrigue I have in the documentary is the fact he hasn't won since January 2020 which was more than 3 years ago, how do they do a 2 hour documentary on him and then end it on a positive note? That's my only intrigue, but I won't be watching. I might change my mind if all of you say it is must see TV,

  10. This show (and thread) completely passed me by. I had no idea it was happening.ย

Their social media marketing is terrible, they need to hype up fights way more than they do.

They also need to stick to a day of a week for when their shows are on. When I know there is a Bellator show coming up on the weekend, I have no idea if it is on the Friday or Saturday, they need to be more consistent.ย

  11. I watched only the main card and it took me most of Sunday to watch it. I kept losing interest, pausing it and then coming back to it over and over.

Song looked great, as Wand said, that is pretty much his ceiling but he will always be great value for money and a fun addition to any card. His english has massively improved too!

A big thing that is fairly recent is the site fees issue. The UFC don't just want to bring their show to town and make money off the gate by pricing it whatever way they need to in order for it to be profitable. They want a site fee from the city they are going to, so that the show is paid for before a ticket is sold. It's a large part of why from they have started touring again, they haven't actually went to a great variety of places even with the PPV's. It's been Houston, London, Vegas, Abu Dhabi etc. It's the exact reason why Dana doesn't have any interest in Hawaii - their tourism board essentially laughed them off the island for wanting site fee's.

What's a site fee? Who pays it and why? Who would have paid London's site fee?ย

  13. If they don't want to travel across the country, they should at least set up base in a place where you can get a few thousand fans in like the Virgin hotel which is in Las Vegas. The small venue that Merab and Yan fought in. I have no idea the financials behind it, but surely they were able to break even and not run the event at a loss.

  14. I have been backwards and forwards all week on who I think will win. I think I am more leaning towards Holloway purely for the fact that I have written him off before and been completely wrong. I have decided I won't make the same mistake again so I am going for Holloway.

If Allen does pull off the win then he 100% is the next in line for the title providing Volk doesn't attempt to go up in weight again.

The rest of the undercard should be good, there aren't any future contenders on the card but there's a lot of fun fighters.

  15. I can't wait to watch this show tomorrow morning. I am 50/50 on how the main event will go but if I was forced to make a prediction I would say Izzy just edges it, I can see him being very grappling heavy tonight.

The co main of Burns and Masvidal will be a war. I think Burns is going to win by a submission, despite wanting Masvidal to win, I just don't think he can do it tonight.

My boy Yanez and Font are going to put on a boxing clinic. I don't think there is going to be a kick or takedown attempt in sight. It's going to be a great fight.

  16. Great little fight night. Merab is an absolute work horse and adds his name to the absolute stacked division of Bantamweight. That division is easily the best one right now.ย

The worst thing about Volkov winning is he will probably be in the main event for his next fight, the UFC love sticking him in main events and I am worried that win will mean his next outing will be there.

The venue was quite different, the crowd seemed up for it but the venue seemed pretty small. Hopefully they use that as their new base going forward instead of holding dull shows at the Apex although I worry that the only reason they held it in that venue was because the Apex was busy hosting the Power slap final.

  17. Great main card overall. I agree with the decision and it's great that Volk has come out of the show on a loss even better than when he came in.

He has his pick of fights to chose from, he can fight for the undisputed FW title against a very worthy challenger in Yair or he can have a deserved rematch at lightweight which everyone will be wanting. I assume he goes into that rematch as a smaller underdog than he was in this fight.

Yair also looked incredible, his movement is something else, I remember the Holloway fight being an absolute war but I also don't really remember how he lost, did he get pieced up on the feet?

I didn't think Jack would beat Randy Brown so easily, I thought Randy was going to be too much of a step up in competition and I fancied him to beat Jack. I was wrong.

Next week's UFC card looks atrocious. Don't spend too long with the write up on that card Wand, it doesn't deserve it!
