  1. I think Zack and Miri is a great comedy. So much better than his other offerings since Dogma (although I do have a soft spot for Clerks 2).

Good cast, good story, great laughs. Surprised he didn't try his hand at more of the Apatow type films tbh.

  2. A few favourites from the last year.

Paddy's Day drinks with my boy on a NY pub crawl.

  3. Speaking of racists, I had the unfortunate task of searching Katie Hopkins belongings before she went to visit Alex Byfield in the nick I work at. I'm obviously not allowed to search women, so thankfully I didn't have to touch her in any way. Although I'm not sure if Satan's Architect can be considered a woman?

Apparently some famous snooker player comes to visit a friend occasionally. I'm not sure who the snooker player is, but I'll let you know if he rocks up.

  4. Cheers for the info. And all fair points. I didn't realise the club wanted to bring him back in. What a thoughtless consideration.

It's fairly similar to Arsenal and the player also accused of similar actions. I guess the difference there was that it was/is hearsay from SM in terms of who it is and what they were supposed to have done. I guess because that players name wasn't in the mainstream media, the club felt justified in continuing to play them.

I don't agree that they did. But on the flip side, in not playing them then they were also condemning them. And that player may well be innocent (I don't believe they are innocent).

I don't know how things lie with that situation either tbh. I've struggled to get behind the team since Wenger left, and that has increased as seasons went by. I think the covid football hiatus pretty much ended my interest in football altogether if I'm honest. I do still try to watch games, but I'm very easily distracted now.

  5. Forgive me, but what's the issue with the Mason Greenwood stuff? I know about the allegations, I'd heard the audio, and from a very distant view, I could see that he was dropped from the team and subsequently sold.

Appreciate I'm probably being very ignorant here and I have maybe missed some vital information, or I'm just not close enough to the story/situation.

  6. Kylie

The staple of my adolescence and pubic years. She was my first love.

    Bob Mortimer

More so at the moment because his recent health issue are in the media. The buffoon. The class clown. He reminds me of my grandad.

    B-Real

His unique voice and style pulled me right into a genre of music that I'll always love.

    Denzel Washington

    I just can't.

Any of the 'It's Always Sunny' crew

Love each and every one of them immensely. Even the bit part actors/reoccurring characters. Just an amazing and lovely bunch of people.

I love it. I don't think it would age badly as its never vicious or mean.

I know that's funny to say about a film that literally mocks a blind child (ffs I'm laughing just typing this...pretty biiiiiird) but there's nothing that makes you think "Tsk the 90s eh?" the way that say, Ace Ventura might.

I love it. My Dad loved it. My kids love it. Cracking.

    WE'VE LANDED ON THE MOON!

Yup, I really like Dumb and Dumber.

  8. The most challenging and roller-coaster year of my life.

My marriage fell apart towards the end of 2022, so my 2023 consisted of (in no particular order):

    - lived on my own for the first time in my life. No friends or family close by. Never felt so empty and alone.

    - sank into the worst depression I've experienced. Not going to lie, I was on the brink.

    - completed Tinder.

    - took a massive 'way out of my comfort zone' leap and started dance classes. Best decision I've made.

    - quit my job and I'm now in training to be a prison officer.

    - went on an absolutely amazing 10 day trip to New York with my son.

    - was front and centre of the Ice Cube and Cypress Hill gig. Also with my son. Epic doesn't even cover it!

    - met someone from a dating app, but despite it not working out, she is now one of my closest and best friends.

    - met an amazing lady at dance class and we're now living together.

This probably sounds very odd, but I'm at this very bizarre point where I no longer feel depressed, but I'm not content, not exactly happy, I'm just sort of comfortable. I also have a very cavalier attitude with my life. I could live for another 20 years or I could die tomorrow. I honestly don't care which. Not sure what that means, but maybe the coming year will help me to figure it out.

    HNY etc.

  9. I split from my wife a year ago, having been together from quite a young age, so dating wasn't something I'd done before let alone app dating. I really threw myself into them though, and I'd say Bumble was the best of the bunch. The Facebook dating add on was decent too. Tinder was bobbins, and Hinge I found a bit boring.

Just adding my two pence worth. As you were.

  10. Napoleon

Quite underwhelming. Nothing really standout. Other than the frozen lake scene (which was pretty cool), the battles were all quite generic.

I've read some quotes from Ridley Scott about the issues some historians have had, and he comes across as a bit of a prick. Not sure if this is standard for him or not?

AVRs are complicated, fiddly wankers on the best of days. How are you getting 5.1, is it straight out of the receiver or are you going to a preamp for passive speakers? I would suggest trying a separate input and mode first. Have you got something on phono connectors or a 3.5mm jack you can plug in and make sure you’re getting plain old stereo out it? If that works, maybe try the 3.5mm jack from your laptop as well. Once you’ve confirmed that part, check all the routing settings in the AVR menu. There’s often stupid bullshit about what inputs can be routed to what outputs, so make sure it’s doing what you think it should be. Beyond the AVR, I presume your laptop has switchable audio outputs. Have you tried switching them around to see what changes?

    Thanks for replying.

I'm getting 5.1 straight from the receiver.

I'm getting sound from other devices through different inputs (turntable and TV being 2 examples).

I've changed the output setting on the laptop to the standard Realtek option and I get sound through the receiver that way, albeit standard stereo.

I've tried different modes on the channel it's connected to and it makes no difference.

    It's baffling.

  12. I've purchased a new receiver that's a lot more modern than my previous one. The main reason I purchased it was so that I can connect my gaming laptop to it via hdmi so I can get 5.1 surround sound out of it. It also outputs in 4k, so additional bonus.

The problem is that I can't get it to play any sound out of it at all.

The laptop recognises that the receiver is connected, it's set as the default audio output, it's using Nvidia HD audio, but still nothing.

I've rolled back drivers, reinstalled latest, tried the troubleshooter, disabled various settings, uninstalled nvidia audio completely and reinstalled. But still nothing.

When I click the 'test' button, the volume animation moves, so the laptop does think it's playing something.

I don't know what else to try. Anyone have any ideas?

This would never have happened to @Steve Justice.

My toilet etiquette has improved significantly I'll have you know. I use the seat, I face forwards (I always did anyway, but just clarifying), and I wipe my bum without standing up.

You should all be very proud of me.

I absolutely loved Dream Scenario. It was, in some ways, everything I wanted from The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - absolute weirdness.

I was fine with the ending as well - while I'd have enjoyed them to continue escalating, I liked where they went, even if there was a bit of a misfire. I also liked the ambiguity of some things, and how some other things didn't get dealt with on-screen. Also, it might be the best Nicolas Cage performance ever - he was fantastic in this.

I just think the whole 'let's not really explain what's going on' shtick has been done to death now. Having an interesting end entertaining answer is much more enjoyable imo.

It was a great idea, well executed in the first 2/3's of the film, went a bit Black Mirror and that was it. Like Sphinx said, it's like they didn't know how to end it. Such a shame, because Cage was really really good.

Rachel says let's take a break. Ross thinks they mean a break from arguing, but Rachel makes it clear that she wants a break from him.

He calls her later to try and patch things up, and not only has Mark got straight in there, she lies to him about Mark being there.

I can totally understand the betrayal that Ross feels.

Also, when Rachel goes to Ross' apartment the next day she says "can I be your girlfriend again". So as far as she was concerned, they were broken up.

Daft of Ross to shag annoying printer girl so quickly, but he didn't cheat on Rachel.

    Fact.

@Steve Justice are you still around? All OK?

    Also lurking periodically.

It's been a tough/emotional year since the breakdown of my marriage and I basically stopped doing everything I used to do. Thankfully, things are now going well for me. Lots of changes.

    Thanks for asking though! ❤️

A bit of a tangent (and not saying you are doing it here), but something I'm getting fed up of is use of someone's jewishness as a qualification. Someone's ethnicity or religion doesn't inherently make them more knowledgeable or qualified to comment.

His eyes are on the ball and has every right to go for it. It's just unfortunate. Not a red for me Clive.
