Peaky Blinders Scrappy Doo is so far and away his best work. He fit in perfectly, making the Brawling Brutes one of the best acts in the company. Going back to Boring British Strong Style as Pete Dunne is a huge downgrade. Even worse if it gets Trent Seven another chance.

I swear, nobody rates NXT Black and Gold more than Hunter himself.

For the record though, even better than being Butch, the best thing Pete Dunne ever did was that podcast he did, describing the ridiculousness of the British scene. I still giggle to myself remembering him describe a show he was on as, “featuring a Dudley Boy.”

“It was just a lad with cammo trousers!”

    Brilliant.

Which podcast was it? Sounds like a decent listen.

  2. Having a think I'm not that opposed to the idea of doing Rock Roman down under. Apart from causing the US fans to get butthurt the settings big, fans will be wild and of course it frees up Roman to go against Cody. I'd like to see Solo cost Rock the match with some tomfoolery involving the Uso's then do Rock Solo at Mania where he decimates Rock far more convincingly than Roman does setting him up to turn on Roman post mania and Rock goes back to his planet never to be seen again!

  3. Happy New Year to you all on the UKFF thanks for continuing to be a great online community to be apart of. It's great getting older with you all.

    Some highlights for me

Started with my first trip home in 3.5 years thanks to COVID.

Securing a full time position at my work with great benefits.

A wonderful holiday in Thailand with the family.

2 fun motorbike trips with friends, hadn't had a road buddy for a few years so this was awesome fun.

    Keeping any excess weight off

    Presenting at my first conference

    Buying an almost new motorbike

And seeing my son grow from a baby into a naughty little man.

    Some lowlights

The exhaustion of having a very active 2 year old

General problems for the future caused by the Tories

Suffering from chronic piles which needs surgery soon.

But all in all a good year.

  4. Suoerbad's a good shout, almost finished watching it again(have a sick 2 year old so takes time to watch a movie) and still hilarious. Borat had me and my brother howling in the cinema back in the day too.

Probably get slated for this but the American Pie movies had me pissing myself with laughter as a teenager and I still get a kick out of the first two today.

DDP for me, could have just sat and took the TW money to the end of his contract

In my opinion if DDP hadn't come in when he did, he wouldn't have come in at all considering his age, look and level of status in WCW being below those that came in after.

He probably wouldn't have got a look I til he presented those WCW DVDs about 10 years later

By being in WWF/E in 01-02 he got a run, a mania payday and I reckon earned way more money had he just kept his contract running.

  6. When I worked at Sainsbury's (daytimes) for a year a decade ago I was only contracted for 12 hours a week (1 eve shift of 4hrs and an 8hr Sat daytime) but rarely did I not get asked to work extra, sometimes with bulk weeks laid out for me to the point something that started as a part time cash flow thing became my fulltime job. Not bad work at all and the people/ customers where I was based were decent. I never ventured into the night shifts although I was offered a few times.

On a slight tangent, I only stopped taking more than my 12hrs a week as I also had a job in a Harvester who got me waiting tables as the busy season approached and the tips were tripling my salary so even though the work was far worse than supermarket work the compensation was too good to pass up. I actually miss the ups and downs of not having a fixed salary/ schedule sometimes these days.

  7. Mentioning Chris Harris, I think you could add James Storm as a brief odd one. Showed up in NXT and could have been part of the early group to come through in the WWE does Indy days but after two appearances went back for some brief Impact stints and faffing around in the indys since which has really made his stock fall in my opinion. I know his wife was pregnant and he went for what would work for him but always seemed like he missed his last opportunity to be on a bigger stage.

I stand by that his last PPV before the hiatus, Starrcade, was the worst PPV ever. With a CWT match of Evan Karagias vs Madusa, feuding over the services (apparently) of Nitro Girl Spice. And a series of the worst finishes to PPV matches I ever saw.

Oh I forgot that one, yes that was a wonderful combo of the Russo madness and the dull as anything PPVs to come.

Maybe they should. I mentioned Cena earlier in the thread, if we want to go all the way with "this belt is prestigious again" then guys who can main event going after it simply because they haven't held it before, is a good way to go about it. Gunther loses nothing by going down swinging to Lesnar, the belt definitely loses nothing, and instead of thinking "Christ, who do we give THIS rub to" by ending the massive long run of Gunther, you get to give someone else the rub of beating Brock Lesnar for it. And Brock's business, he'll lose to anyone as long as you pay him.

Equally though, they could have Lesnar get cheated by someone unpalatable like Austin Theory instead of making someone new. And then segue into the story I want, Cena going after the ICT to complete the set.

Oh god, that last bit you said. They're going to have Priest cash in for it if they want it off Gunther aren't they. Then Priest/Balor can be for the IC belt

It was basically meant to be. They were going to call it a Dungeon match and remove the ropes but the rules were going to be the same - pinfall or submission or lose if you hit the floor.

Card was switched from Bret Hart vs Sid for the big belt, Jarrett vs Benoit for the US title in the triple threat theatre and Filthy Animals vs Revolution including their mystery partner... to what they did. Honestly, it was so awful, it must have been the worst PPV since Starrcade 99.

That's really was a three month stint of the most boring ppvs they ever did. Eve the cruiserweight matches were dull from memory. At least the Russo era had the bat she*t mental stuff and then later on some decent flyer action with 3 Count etc. 16 matches was insane but Sprin Stampede 2000 is a vast improvement as everything moves on so fast, stilloneni enjoy today

  11. Thanks guys, really nice to hear that people enjoyed it. I'll definitely be at the next one in March so will post another report then. I might even try not to drink as much to improve my recollection abilities.

I read he’s friends with the promoter and been on his podcast several times.

I'm not sure about friends, I don't even know quite how the podcast thing got together. I think I was told but over a few beers which means it's slipped my memory.

Venom Shank, is an awesome name.

I love it, they are fantastic those twins they look like devilsh looking chicken shit heels with a nasty streak. Their English is really good too so I could see them going far as an act over the next few years.

Thanks for all the feedback on this. I might ping it off to the dirt sheets later today. It really is a great crowd and awesome fun at every show.

So, wait... Chris Jericho flew out to Vietnam for the show but didn't wrestle?  He didn't even manage to interject himself into whatever was the hottest feud, and get booked with the biggest rising star?

From what I know there's a documentary being made about the promotion and he came over to be involved. I assume it must be a well funded documentary and they probably paid for him to come out unless he funded it himself.

  14. Here we go with another wrestling report from Vietnam, did I mention I live there? Last night I attended VPW (Vietnam Pro Wrestling) Immortal Glory as always held in VAIB studios in Ho Chi Minh City. I think I covered the venue in my previous report a few months ago but it's a big warehouse/ TV studio meaning it has a decent lighting rig, big screens for use and sits around 300-400 people comfortably. I didn't report on the last show mostly as I was far too drunk and have very little recollection of anything in detail however this time I remember very well.

The start of the evening had an immediate highlight that local craft brewery and sponsor Heart of Darkness had custom VPW roster cans of golden ale which ran out pretty quick. I actually think they had to door a supply run at sometime before/ after intermission.

I'm terrible at move names so please don't expect masses of technical explanations here.

    Pre-Show: Chi Bao Vs Sansyu

This was technically a pre-show match while people are entering the building, I missed it as my Grab (our Uber) took us a stupid way to the venue but it looked solid enough for a 5 min tussle. Chi Bao is a big young dude who is currently doing the black trunks/ boots rookie combo that happens in Japan his opponent was Sansyu from Japan who is a former student of FugoFugo Yumeji and a 17 year veteran. Chi Bao is a decent looking lad, tall and if he can loose some of his puppy fat will be quite the specimen. I believe Sansyu won but I was still outside.

Match 1: Ares Vs Sonny Z

Ares (pronounced Aries) is a big stocky local lad with a mean looking face (he's quite nice in real life) while Sonny Z is an older veteran of the sport. Originally from China he now operates a weed shop out in Pattaya Thailand and as he came across as a happy go lucky aging surfer dude I guess his gimmick is himself. Both men spent some time giving each other hard hitting power moves before moving into a chop fest.  They then returned to some more brutal looking power moves before Ares got the pinfall cleanly.

Match 2: Ten man battle royal for the Heart of Darkness Crown

This was a match of two halves. The opening saw Fuego Yameji swatting away some of his newer trainees while also dealing with the large and impressive D.Austin. Eventually through numerous shenanigans the heels eliminated Fugo and his trainees as well as some others leaving Phong Tran a BTSesque face against Damien Wolfe, British Horror and his dog collar wearing lackey Khoa. Eventually it came down to The British Horror and Khoa who told a good story of being conflicted between obedience and eliminating himself and  winning the crown. While his back was turned The British Horror dumped Khoa out of the ring to win the crown.

Match 3: VPW Tag Team Championship - Venom Shank (c) Vs The Mystic Warrirors

This was a decent tag team match with the Venom Shank twins getting the win from a fast rollup after a disallowed 3 count. It looked like the twins were trying to use the mist and I think one of them swallowed it before they could use it leading to the alternative finish.

Match 4: VPW Openweight Championship - Rocky Huynh (c) Vs An D

This was a heavily built up match as the two competitors had a lot of history being two of the founding members of VPW. Taking a little time to get going the match had a good level of chain wrestling between the two before Rocky scored the eventual pin fall following some entertaining false finished. I started attending shows not long ago so at times found the storyline a little more challenging to get into than some of the longer attending fans but the did pull me in with the decent wrestling and finish. After the match they two hug until two of An D's cronies entered the ring and a brief 3 on 1 assault on Rocky followed.

Match 5: Billy with Xavier Patrick Vs Hy Draco with Phuong Nam

This match was essentially a manager's choice match. Xavier Patrick is the ring announcer and also the very enthusiastic guy from the Jericho podcast earlier this year. Phuong Nam is a fairly famous comedian who entered the rumble a few months ago and took somewhat of a dislike to Patrick. The underlying tone seemed to be that Phuong Nam feels he should be treated better due to his fame and the fact he is Vietnamese but luckily the weird undertones of that were heavily muted this time. Phuong Nam and Hy Draco played the heel roles for the most part and eventually got the win due to miscommunication between Billy his tag partner Bobby and Patrick. I really enjoyed Phuong Nam's heel work and the fact he still babyfaces up for his non wrestling fans, he also got into a fun back and forth with me in the crowed with a few birds flipped. Hopefully he didn't take it too personally. Overall this was a fun sports entertainment bout that few in attendance expected to set the world on fire.

Main Event: PCW Ultra Women's Championship - Viva Van Vs Sumie Saki

This was a hotly anticipated and welcome match for the audience and VPW roster. Viva Van is an American born Vietnamese wrestler out of the Cali area. A couple of years ago she stated a funding campaign that helped VPW get their first real wrestling ring. Sumie Saki is of course a notable Japanese veteran and the fist Women of Honor champion in ROH. Both had wonderful presence and went with a hard hitting technical affair eventually won cleanly by Viva Van. I thought the match was maybe a little shorter than hoped and think an extra 5-10 mins would have been brilliant.

    Post Show

Following the match the roster came out to have a small thank you celebration for the ladies before Xavier Patrick took the mic and announced a surprise. Out of nowhere Judas starts playing with the video on the screen and Chris Jericho himself walks out to say a few words, thank everyone for coming and wish VPW the best. Although some of the younger Vietnamese fans were a bit confused by who this was the pop was deafening and say what you want about Chris Jericho it was an extremely meaningful moment for the Vietnamese wrestling community to have him here. Also I marked out like a 10 year old and can't speak today still!

Overall it was a brilliant show an I'll continue to go along as it's nice and local. There isn't one for a few months now to get the New Year festivities out the way. Having Jericho turn up was also nice personally as 10 years ago I was introduced to him through a friend and told him all about my hopeful dreams to move over to Vietnam, I reminded him of this when I got a quick moment to speak to him, he said he remembered but I think he was humoring me which I honestly don't mind. Thanks for coming Chris!

EDIT: At some point I'll workout how to post photos but there's plenty already floating about online if you can't wait.

Yeah I've also purchased and was hoping for pie & peas and an entry into the "Book Buyers Battle Royal".

I'd prefer a haddock and chips, perhaps the winner decides on the order?

Considering they had a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match at Mania this just feels normal now to me. Still less product placement than for Flair's drink on AEW though.

Being "that guy" for a sec, that was the rumble. Apparently TKO are more open to littering the ring and area with sponsorship during shows so I'd say get used to it.

Granted I’ve not watched yet but did they really run pretty much the exact same “get a partner by the end of the night” angle on RAW that they just ran on SmackDown?

Did they even do the logical thing of having a face to face or over the phone conversation with Nick Aldis saying "Just tell them to bloody pick tonight" or something to add a reason to why we have this mirroring storyline?

Gunther and Sheamus are the only two Brock matches left that I'd actually want to see. They'd bang, but I'd still be too worried for Gunther to get properly hyped for a match with Lesnar. They have a monster on their hands who hasn't been established as inferior to Brock (like everyone else) yet, why fuck with him and go that route again? Getting that program was instadeath for Braun and Joe's momentum.

I always preffered Lesnar matches when he's up against someone with a totally different style like Bryan, AJ etc. Some of the big man vs big man ones have been disappointing and I wouldn't expect much different vs Gunther.

This weekend saw the end of the 10 year run for Attack on Titan.

It's the only anime that I've watched from start to finish and felt really invested in the show. Such a cracking finale as well. Anyone else here watch it?

Watched the finale the other day, was a decent ending and without spoiling I'd say it was a pretty true description of what people would end up doing after all of that. I enjoyed the show a lot at the beginning but the longer gaps between episodes and the last few seasons felt a bit harder to follow. Once the whole this is dubbed into English I'll give it another watch through.
