  1. Graeme Hick should be the No.3 for England.

They really fucked Hick's career by constantly carting him up and down the order and dropping him. If they'd have left him alone at number 3 and not arsed around with him he would have scored over 10,000 runs for England, no doubt about it.

Got to agre with most of that (not sure about 10,000 runs though). I recall at on point England having him bat as low as 7 or 8 which is utterly ridiculous.

  2. What a ridiculously woeful start to The Ashes 2009.

England have no chance of reclaiming them this summer.

How can you say that they have no chance? It's the 1st Test match for crying out loud.

    Because England are shit.

    I feel thats reason enough.

If that's your opinion the to be honest you know nowt about cricket. England are a very good test side and have the ability to beat anyone, especially at home.

Back to todays action, not really how I expected the innings to go but the result was how I'd hoped we'd end up - 400+ at lunch on day 2, pitch taking spin - all in all, looking good. A wicket before lunch would very be nice.

  3. I think to call the aussie attack lacklusture is a little naive. Sure they don't have mcgrath or warne but the likes of Johnson and Siddle will give us problems, thier lack of spin options will limit Punter though. I think universally everyone agrees to win the toss and choose to bat. If we can do that and post 400 odd I think we're in for a win. Hopefully Cook can continue his form at the top and Strauss is a big game player so I'm happy there if they can put a strong opening partnership together and really set the tone for the series.

When you look at their performance against the Lions where the only Aussie bowler to show anything was Brett Lee I think you can very much call their attack lacklustre.

  4. I'm losing Sky after the weekend so have been watching stuff I'll miss out on.

Dog the Bounty latest series on Bravo.

Hadn't seen it for a while as they kept showing repeats.

BULLSHIT - Penn and Teller, FX.

    - never seen this series before, taped a couple of those last night, seen 1st one about Walmart. It's odd I'm used to watching the old Mark Thomas programmes off Channel 4 investigating corporate scandals etc then this programme comes along with a different angle with all the positives. I reckon it'll appeal to some on here who like Screen Wipe. Oh yes and there is some bare boobies at the end :)

Well the second one was fun it was about the right to expose one's breasts! It focussed on women complaining about other women breastfeeding their babies in public and an aging biker chick campaigning for the right to go topless at Daytona beach. If you are a fan of breasts and human rights like myself then you'll enjoy it.

I love Penn and Teller and love Bullshit. It helps when you agree with their point of view though and I can't see the shows ever getting aired on BBC as they are very biased!

  5. Well, like I said, I've not seen it so I can't judge. Going from your description however, it sounds as if there are several consistency errors. Which to me would imply bad or simply lazy writing.

    Wolverrine lazy writing?

Have you seen Indiana Jones 4 or the Knowing. Aliens as an explanation at the end of a movie is the epitome of lazy writing .

Firstly, what has the ending of Indiana Jones have to do with anything?

Secondly, how does Aliens at the end of a movie suggest lazy writing? Do you consider Close Encounters of the Third Kind lazily written then?

I'll re-iterate having Aliens as an explanation to things at the end of a movie is lazy. It's a one shot, encompasses any scenario you want to situation. It's the sort or writing that school kids use in GSCE exams (well I did anyway) when you've ran out of ground/ideas/time to tell a more plausable story.

And what has the ending of Indian Jones got to do with anything? It has aliens as the explanation behind the story does it not or did I watch another film? I don't care if people think that was the direction of the movie because it still reeks of poor writing.

Your example of close encounters is crass and clearly not in context, that is a film about Aliens. Maybe I should be more specific for you, Aliens as an explanation when there is no no need to is lazy and childlike.

  6. Just watched Star Trek and I really liked it. Plently of Star Trek fans will sulk and create because things are different and don't follow the TV show timelines, but I think this will ensure that people who have no knowledge of any of the TV shows can enjoy this movie.

I certainly enjoyed it more than Star Wars episodes 1-3. A step in the right direction for Star Trek in my opinion.

  8. I'd be surprised to see another orgins to be honest. This movie has only made $158 million so far with a budget of $150. A Film needs to make 2.5-3 times its budget to be considered a sucess.

You know it's been out less than a week, right? The second part isn't particularly true either.

As shitty as the reviews have been, the opening weekend virtually guarantees there'll be more.

Its not going to make significantly more money until it goes on DVD/blu-ray. Its all about the opening weekend.

    X-Men - budget $75m, opening weekend $54m, four month gross $157m

    X-Men 2 - budget $110m, opening weekend $85m, four month gross $214m

    X-Men 3 - budget $210m, opening weekend $122m, four month gross $234m

If the movie has made $158 in opening weekend with a budget of $150m I would say another origins movie is guarenteed
