  1. I have seen Greg Valentine at multiple conventions and wrestling show merch booths, and that is literally the same expression I have seen on his face at all of them, even when a fan is ponying up the cash for the photo and autograph op.

Its still better than Virgil being all in your face if you get within a 10 foot radius of his table. During Wrestlemania weekend this year I was standing 15 feet away talking to a friend with my back strategically turned away from Virgil's table to avoid eye contact. The fucker saw I was wearing a Razor Ramon t shirt so he sauntered around my blind side and now he is less than a foot away in my personal space holding up the Too Sweet hand gesture, and then talked at me for 10 fucking minutes before he finally got the hit I wasn't going to buy anything from him.

    Fucking Virgil.

Following a conversation following this video that's been floating around Twitter the last few days:

I'm trying to find a video from (I think) a Japanese promotion in 2015 where a guy gets thrown from the balcony of an arena and completely misses the table he's supposed to land on. I think he might have even gotten up afterwards but it looked awful. Anyone know what I'm on about or did I imagine it?

You may be thinking of an incident in Puerto Rico a few years back involving Flash Flanagan. Having trouble posting at the moment bit search for him, he took a biel toss off a balcony and his leg barely clipped the table and most of his body went splat on the ground.

Hold on there, back the fuck up. What jiggery pokery is this?

Did they just give up adding new episodes because no one was watching them, and deleted the first ones to pretend they never started? Was it a licencing issue? What's going on?

Adding stuff and then removing it later really undermines confidence in what they're trying to achieve and what customers think they're getting when they buy in.

They pulled the Rock and Wrestling cartoon after the Hogan sex tape/n-word scandal broke, which was only a few weeks after the promotional push that episodes had been posted.

*IS* going to happen? They haven't announced the blocks yet, unless you know something I don't.

Someone else a few posts earlier had said they announced Sabre vs Ibushi as a match that was definitely happening. Was going off that when I posted though I saw afterwards the blocks hadn't been formally announced yet.

Normally I'd say skip all Taichi matches, but Taichi-Taka Michinoku is worth a look this year. It's awful, but there's an element to it that makes it almost an artistic work of awfulness.

Taichi vs Taka from this year's BOSJ was the best version of HHH vs HBK for the European Title ever.

I would also recommend watching Taichi vs Liger. A match full of schtick but the payoff is awesome.

Also, count me in on the crowd that is amused that the CWC final everyone wanted is now going to happen in NJPW's heavyweight tournament.

Al Snow, Shane Helms and Simon Diamond are all leaving TNA when their contracts run out at the end of the month.

Gotta figure they're all in with a good shout of getting a role at the performance centre.

I don't know about Helms or Simon, but dear god let's keep Al Snow far the fuck away from the Performance Center. Every shoot I have seen where he talks about the theory behind wrestling he comes off like a grouchy bastard and seems like he would be a step back to Bill Demott days of the Performance Center.

Cheers. I don't remember that storyline. What year did that happen?

Late 87ish. I don't remember it as being played too broadly, more something that was dropped on commentary and maybe a corner insert promo or two during job matches.

Is that Jimmy Hart on the vocals for Powers entrance music?

Yep, they even did a storyline that Jimmy originally wrote the song for The Hart Foundation but the Young Stallions stole it for themselves before the song's debut to stick it to Hart and get on the Foundation's radar for a title shot.

  9. If it is indeed a work, I legit don't know whether it was brilliant or stupid to go that route on the work.

On the side of brilliance, everyone did talk about it all day yesterday.

On the side of stupidity, if it is a work the next time there is a serious accident people will likely think it's just a work and not take it seriously when someone is almost dying in front of their eyes.

  10. Yeah, we could tell live something was being projected onto the mat but did have to look up at the big screens to make out exactly what the images were.

I personally loved the idea of the effects deal a lot, but was more pissed that they went through all that trouble to give Bray an "Undertaker" style production gimmick only to have him lose via RKO-123 like none of it mattered. It made going through that whole production gimmick a giant waste of time. I think the effect would have came off much better if they actually led to Wyatt having the psychological edge and winning.

  11. I do sometimes wonder if the emphasis these days on returning legends would not be there if another genuinely viable competitor existed.

If WWF did decide to bring in an old face and strap the rocket to them for Wrestlemania in 1995, the risk existed then that WCW would swoop in and snatched them up right away. Hell I remember a few instances in the 90s where the dirt sheets and early news sites would report that a wrestler was in negotiations with WWF or WCW, and then magically a month later the other program signs them just based off the rumors they were negotiating with the competitor.

  12. Isn't the joke with the Helloova Kick is that the phrase was coined by Cesaro's English not being his first language kicking in and butchering the phrase "hell of a" while doing commentary on an El Generico match in PWG?

  13. Not too well syndicated, just locally to the show. MSG shows would be on the MSG Network, Philly Spectrum on PRISM, and Boston Gardens on NESN.

Yes the complete house shows would typically only be shown on the local sports network.

Matches from these shows would also get repurposed for the Prime Time Wrestling and All American Wrestling programs on USA within a few weeks, but they would almost never show Hogan matches or stipulation matches such as steel cage matches from the arena shows on the national TV programs. Those matches they would stockpile for the Coliseum Video VHS tapes that you had to rent or buy.

  14. MSG, Meadowlands, and Nassau Coliseum shows aired on HBO from 73-77, MSG Network from 77-92 and occasionally the USA Network. Philadelphia Spectrum shows aired on PRISM from 77-89. Boston Garden shows aired on New England Sports Network from 85-89. Z Channel in Los Angeles also aired some LA Sports Arena shows in 88-89.

On top of that, USA Network aired off-and On Capital Center shows from 81-84. St. Louis shows in 84 and Houston shows were taped 86-88 as part of agreements with their local market broadcast affiliates to include matches from those shows within the regular WWF TV broadcasts. And on a similar note, Toronto shows from 84-90 and occasional shows elsewhere in Ontario during that time were taped to include matches within the regular WWF TV due to Canadian broadcasting laws of the time requiring a percentage of broadcasted content to be produced within Canada.

And then WWF would repurpose matches from these shows for the All-American Wrestling and Prime Time Wrestling shows on USA, and for Coliseum Video releases.
