  1. This season has taken the show to new heights, it has been all consuming and the world feels complete. I love everything about this show!

They have managed to pair off characters perfectly, Bronn & Jaime doing their buddy cop show, Margaery & Cersei in their Housewives of Kings Landing. Plus The North, Arya in Léon, the creepy Lolita potential with Littlefinger, and Tyrion in Essos.

Selmy dying was horrible, he was the cool hard guy with that aura you just wanted to see in action, to see him die made me sad and angry in equal measures. His entrance to the fight though was as awesome as you expect.

I never usually watch Thronecast but he was on tonight's, it's actually a fun show. Plus it showed the trailer for next weeks episode! Things are happening!!!

The one chilling moment which made me have goosebumps?

    "You know nothing Jon Snow."

  2. On a different note, here's a really good video about what if Man Of Steel was in color: https://youtu.be/Du-eYiD9OfM

This gives me an opportunity to talk about Man of Steel as I watched it for the first time a couple days ago.

Holy shit it was bad, and it culminated in the shittest ending I've ever seen in a superhero movie. Is Zack Snyder the Dolph Ziggler of filmmaking? I couldn't get over how shit a lot of that film was, it was would have been worse if not for the great cast (plus Henry Cavill is insanely handsome) but not even that could save how crap the whole thing was. The ending especially, with the destruction of the city, was easily the worst ending I've ever seen. It was the equivalent of Dolph flinging himself of a ladder and thinking it makes a great match.

This movie and the ones like it are exactly why I enjoy the Marvel films so much, with Marvel you're getting the fun film with a story that isn't complicated and can be enjoyed by everyone. I want to turn my brain off during these films and just have fun. Marvel IS John Cena! When Marvel destroys a city you don't take it seriously because you're told throughout its all fun, with all the dark arty films it makes zero sense to do that, well to do that and then end with this...

What the fuck? You have a shit 'serious' film and then end it with this?

I don't really get angry about films, it's just I couldn't believe how they managed to fuck up a film with that cast.

  3. I was going to put this in the Ched Evans thread, but here is a better place.

The third season of Inside Amy Schumer is starting back up, with it comes an absolutely brilliant sketch. For anyone who loved Friday Night Lights (and that surely is everyone?!) it's a beautiful parody about the teen rape culture.

I know it's sacrilege to compare her show to the masterful Chappelle Show, though it's an apt comparison I think. She is doing what Chappelle did back with his show, going after societies problems in a brilliant comedic way.

I highly recommend anyone who hasn't checked her stuff out to do so, I think she is a genius at comedy.

Also, I've been re-watching some Prison Breaks recently, the first few episodes are really great at setting up the show. I bloody loved the first two seasons of that show (and hated the final 2 just as much!), however watching it back, maaan a lot of it looks stupid. Mainly the actual escape parts, it's also aged terribly considering it's only 10 years old. still great fun though. I defy anyone to watch the first episode and not then want to watch the next one.

  4. Season 3 of The Office is about as close to a perfect comedy as you can get. (I would extend it from halfway through season two til about halfway through of season 5)

During season 3 the show knows exactly what it is, plays to the strengths of the ridiculously awesome cast and has a through line which makes it work.

Throw a dart at a season 3 or 4 episode and you will be enjoying yourself more than most other shows.

Whenever I can't think of what to watch on Netflix i will watch season 3 or 4 on there. The Convict is definitely one which can always make me laugh.

I actually stopped watching around season 7 when something happened where I thought it should have ended and then do one more season 5 years down the road. For me the story was done, so didn't bother with the rest of it. I may go back and watch the last couple seasons though.

I have been watching The Last Man on Earth, ever since it became more of a standard comedy it has gotten worse. When it was Phil alone trying not to go crazy it really was fresh and funny. Now not so much, I will probably give up on it soon, not even Betty Draper can keep it enjoyable.

  5. Hahahahahahahaha There isn't enough laughter in the world for the Knicks winning tonight.

Twitter has been brilliant tonight with pouring it on the Knicks, my favourite tweet coming from Haralabob Voulgaris:

@haralabob: Doesn’t shock me that a team that is in love with long 2 point shots just burned a 5% chance at drafting #1.

  6. (Sorry for replying to my own post!!

Ok, so that Brooklyn pick makes me look dumb after they got blown out. But give me a moment to explain why Chicago winning was inexplicably the dumbest decision they could have made. Also Brooklyn losing was also unbelievably retarded. I know no one cares, I just need to explain as it annoys me, and I didn't even have a bet on it myself.

If Chicago lost they would finish 4th in the playoff seedlings, going on to play a laughably coached Wizards team. Who they will beat, they just will. Then going on to play Atlanta, who they are too big for and Atlanta are very overhyped. As a team they play well but that's more of a regular season thing, when it comes to the playoffs teams will slow down and Chicago will destroy them in the paint. Chicago would be guaranteed a spot in the Eastern Conference finals against Cleveland, where Rose will have more time to get fully healthy and they will be able to play at 100%. If they finish 3rd they will be getting Milwaukee in the 1st round of the playoffs, which is no pushover. They will likely win then go on to play Cleveland in the 2nd round. Utterly baffling. Then again Chicago's coach seems to be in "Fuck You" mode towards the GM and owners as they are gonna be firing him at the end of the season, plus he is apparently someone who hates losing even if it makes sense.

As for Brooklyn, words fail me to say how idiotic this loss was. Usually a team who is on the brink of the playoffs who want to rebuild will try and miss it narrowly. Thus getting a higher draft pick whilst seeming to the fans they tried hard.. Why does that make Brooklyn idiots? THEY DONT HAVE THEIR DRAFT PICK THIS YEAR!! They traded it away. So there's literally no reason to not go all out for this game, They needed to win this game. Now they may not be in the playoffs and without a lottery pick.

All in all, this was the most ridiculous result that could have happened. It's worse than when Tottenham need a win and then go ahead and lose. Just insanity.

Actually scratch that. The Knicks winning and giving up the highest odds for the 1st overall pick in the process trumps everything. Wow... Just wow.

(Just to say I will do an NBA playoff preview in the NBA thread in a couple days.)

  7. Thanks for the heads up, didn't know about that at all! Rather annoying it's not available in the UK but not difficult to get the U.S one at least. Spent the last 45mins on the thing, absolutely brilliant. For anyone interested you can block spoilers on it.

Up until now I've just been going on asoiaf to look everything up, this is so much better.

Also for those who want some house histories I highly recommend comicbookgirl19 on YouTube, bloody fun videos.

  8. Whilst I no longer bet, For anyone who is interested there is the most ridiculous line tonight in the NBA.

Brooklyn money line (home to Chicago) - 6/5

Chicago don't want to win this, they would be idiots if they even attempted to win this game. If they lose they are guaranteed the four spot in the east, which is the perfect spot as you miss Cleveland in round two. Plus Brooklyn need to win. I really can't see how or why Chicago win this.

Also the Cavs will easily cover -7 against the Pistons. They will want to have a nice home win before the playoffs as everyone is back playing tonight.

Both together is 4.2 to 1.

I just don't see how that doesn't win. If Chicago wins they are officially the dumbest team in the league.

The playoffs start next week so it's going to be bloody fun! If anyone wants a tip, then take Milwaukee to win their first round series if its against Toronto.

  9. "Are you a virgin?"

    "No"

    "Good."

    Melisandre is the best.

I would most likely take on the Lord of light as my saviour, between that shadow baby and Thoros of Myr bringing that guy back all the time it's the only one which shows results. Plus there's a chance Melisandre might take a fancy to you, though that doesn't totally seem to work out for that person.

Also why on earth would anyone live anywhere but Pentos? Look how majestic it looked in that scene with Varys and Tyrion, Just cross that narrows sea!

(For reference here is a googlemaps of the known world. It's out of date and contains SPOILERS!! But I will leave it if you want

    http://quartermaester.info/ )

I'm all for equality in nude scenes, but this episode was heavy on the male nudity. Ever since she became Khalessi, it seems Daenerys is too proper for nudity. At least we got some hot Tyrell arse!

I love that this show is an event, the days after with podcasts and videos really make it a cool shared experience.

  10.

The anti-vax group are seen to be the most progressive in society and pretty well educated.

    By whom?

Washington, the state which has at the forefront of the anti vaccination movement, is also that state which is the most well educated and liberal in most studies.

I definitely wouldn't put them in the same category as tin foil truthers, I always see the people most against it would be like the ones in those comedy gap year videos. Well educated who think they know far more than they do.

For the record I don't think they are smart, it's just they seem to be well educated in a lot of cases.

Anyway funnily enough one of the main advocates for anti-vaccinations has apologised for believing all that cheap after her 7 children all contracted whooping cough because they weren't vaccinated.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3034542/How-stopped-anti-vaxxer-Mother-seven-change-heart-vaccinations-kids-contract-whooping-cough.html

Who would have thought?... Oh yeah, all rational people!

  11. I did a bit of reading about the anti-vaccine movement, I tried to ignore it as it would only annoy me but decided to give it a proper read. As that's what Sunday's are for!

Needless to say, it annoyed me.

What is wrong with people? The anti-vax group are seen to be the most progressive in society and pretty well educated. Yet they happily ignore the evidence and think they are right, It's baffling. I wonder what they think of Scientologists because to me there's very little difference, both are getting most of their ideas from a terrible source and both won't ever hear a contrarian view on the subject. I mean this all started over a paper which was discredited, by a guy who was struck off the medical register.

They are actively spreading diseases to people (mainly children) due to their actions. It's insanity that this can go on, then again I just read Australia have taken their usual "fuck you" approach to things and are cutting welfare to anti-vaccine parents.

Is our ego so big, that if we the facts are telling us we are clearly on the wrong side of something, we can't ever admit that and switch sides?

These people would be the first to laugh at 9/11 truthers and those alike I reckon, whilst being exactly that.

  12. WINTER IS HERE!!!!

If you are too impatient to watch Game of Thrones on Monday then fear not, because both the first four episodes are available online.

(watch-series-tv.to then just search game of thrones.)

I really don't know whether I will watch all four or any for that matter, I have been waiting for so long and been craving the Thrones but I don't want to binge and not be excited for weeks. Plus I like that the week is dominated by that weeks episode, and I like the collective conversation on podcasts. All of which may be taken away if I'm so far ahead of the conversation. Hmm, this is a real Sophie's choice!

Edit: Great minds that Pitcos and I.

  13. Awesome work Kookoocachu, and everyone else who is now fit.

I used to be a right fatty for a couple years when I got super depressed. Then I just worked out like mad, ate super healthy and got in shape. Problem was whenever I looked in the mirror I still saw the fat guy, so I had a bit of an anorexic problem for about 6 months or so. (I went from about 22st or so down to 11st, just imagine that!) Eventually I sorted it out and got a trainer, the difficult part was eating enough. I would under eat so eating 5 times a day was daunting. Got there in the end though, even though I was doing well without and had some tone, I wanted to work out strength and definition. It really was eye opening as I thought I was fit but after a few months it was completely different.

I did that fit bit course (rowing, log downs, kettle bell swings, bike, press ups, kettle bell lifts, sand bag lifts, run. I think that's all) and did a time of 17mins 30s. After a couple months of training I got that down to 13mins 14s.

I will post some pics at some point in here.

For anyone who hasn't started getting healthy yet, just to say it gets so much easier after the first 3 months. Obviously those are a grind but after that it's great fun!

  14. I have not read the books as I wouldn't have time and quite frankly it doesn't appeal to me that much considering the Show is great.

However, I don't give a shit about spoilers, never have and it doesn't bother me when stuff gets spoilt as I can enjoy it all the same. (Though I would never spoil anything for others, even if I don't care about something, I know others may do.)

With that said, I started going on like a Wikipedia type place of all the characters. As I like to watch the show and have background on the characters to fill it in. Sort of a nice way for it to go hand in hand with the show. Especially if I don't really understand things within the show (Ramsay Snow being an example).

I then delved deeper and deeper, going through every character and reading everything. Then watching YouTube videos like Redteamreview and EmergencyAwesome (the latter of which I really enjoy) and man does it add to the experience I find.

I've been re-watching all the seasons again in preparations and I feel like I completely understand it all now.

There are really cool HBO videos which detail the houses, history and lore narrated by the actual actors in the show on YouTube. Completely spoiler free and work so well to give you an understanding and background of everything.

(Search for game of thrones history and lore, there is like a 2 hour history of houses and then some season four ones about lore of game of thrones.)

This is the season 4 one.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=SKahi3qZuZw

Don't worry, no spoilers in these. They just give the history and lore of season 4.

Anyway, I am more excited about this show than I ever have been about a season of tv. Only a few days left to wait!

Jon Snow gets invited to a dinner party! (I love Jon Snow a bit too much for a straight guy... Well alleged straight guy.)

There is no shame in this admittance. I'd have turned for the King In The North, personally. No bridges required.
Yeah, both are totes gorg! Without sounding like the most conceited person on earth I have actually had compliments to the beat of "you look like Jon Snow" needless to say it made my day/week/life. I don't, I'm not that delusional, still I bring it up any chance I can get!

(I'm very well aware that paragraph makes me sound like a massive douchebag.)

  15. Renee and Regal are fine for NXT, but they're nowhere near good enough to be mainstream wrestling commentators. Even considering the quality of the mainstream commentators. Commentary is the one thing Renee falls down on. Probably wouldn't have hurt in the circumstances though.

Yeah I love Renee Young and think she's one of WWE's best assets, and even I think she would be terrible as a commentator. She is the perfect anchor for a panel show like she does (and hopefully becomes a weekly thing, I mean please, takeaway an hour of programming and have that panel show instead.) but wouldn't fit at all as part of commentary team. She is absolutely brilliant in what she does, did I mention I love her?

I used to live in an ignorant bliss when I didn't properly listen to the commentary and didn't know Vince was basically giving them lines, I would just blank it out as I usually watch whilst doing stuff. Now I'm aware, I can't handle it and I get so irritated by how utterly shit it is. It's making the product so much worse. Who are they even meant to be appealing to with their commentary? Kids won't understand or give a shit, and adults will think it's beyond shit and contrived. This is where Vince needs to find professional commentator who can do a bit of colour he can trust and let them speak naturally.

The crowd were awesome this week, they added to the show exactly how you want them to. The booing of Rollins was brilliant and the pop for Orton was insane! I've started to really like and enjoy Orton recently, I actually think it's really fresh and I'm excited at the prospect of him headlining again. (I probably like the idea of him more than actually him)

Even Cena was getting the cheers, which I thought caught him off guard for a second whilst he did his talking segment. The boos weren't as loud so his "some people love me and some hate me" bit wasn't that effective. I love me some Cena, the guy is the man.

I enjoyed Raw so much more due to that crowd, surely WWE must have been loving that fact this was of the few times Reigns got cheers. Well what sounded like mostly cheers with some boos, they seemed to get behind the finish of the Big Show match.

My theory on the crowd is that Austin is so cool that they're too cool to be 'cool' and just circled back to cheering when you're supposed to.

It's going to help if Daniel Bryan is going to be Smackdown exclusive (isn't he?), that way people will end up forgetting him. Hopefully.

As for Raw, I enjoyed the matches and it's everything I really want from a Raw. I watch it in about an hour or so, which is the perfect length.

One thing that annoys me - I'm not a fan of having any match on Raw which is likely to be on a PPV at some point, which surely has to be the case with Miz vs Mizdow? I guess if it's not going to add subscriptions then it doesn't really matter.

  16.

And Daniel Bryan's opponents not knowing that after he backflips off the top turnbuckle, he's going to duck their clothesline & hit one of his own. Does nobody study tapes? I've seen Harper & Barrett counter but that's about it.

Liam, this is exactly the kind of stuff I was talking about in my email about Cena's Protoplex sequence. I've nothing against wrestlers doing the same offence in the same order in every match if it's what works, but relying on your opponent to react a certain way every time looks fake and naff.

For the benefit of everyone else ; it grinds my gears beyond belief how every one of John Cena's opponents will react to two shoulder tackles by throwing a wild haymaker so Cena can duck and hit the Protoplex. It looks SO shit. Can we please eliminate sequences like that which give away that it's all a feat of co-operation?

The irony being the Cena did actually study tape (well I assume he did) for the second Mania match with The Rock, as he stopped when The Rock jumped up before the Five Knuckle Shuffle, which is how he won the year before.

They should play on that more, the familiarity of opponents. Especially after a long feud, maybe they do and I just don't notice.

Though I may well just be remembering all that wrong, don't think so as I remember Cena stopping, outsmarting The Rock and hitting his finished is how they should have finished. Instead they carried on for a few more minutes.

If we are talking about realism, then for me the most annoying part is the referee, it's easily my biggest pet peeve. Well the impartial ones who aren't working for the bad guy, those I can excuse as at least there's a reason for how they act. The ones who have no reason to cheat or be shit should not be continually flummoxed by someone on the apron, a tag team member coming in or any of the typical tropes which happen in a match. I completely understand its a pantomime and that's the point to get the baddy over, still it's so shit when it happens the same way every bloody time. How are the referees not fired for screwing up a contest like that over and over again? Surely in wrestling logic it is real, yet no wrestlers have gone to actively complain to the commissioner and no referee has gotten a suspension.

This is why I can't care about logic in wrestling, all logic is thrown out the window when referees act like that.

  17. I tend to write the Pirates off, I know it goes against most stats but I just don't believe in them, they just don't scare me whenever I've watched them. Then again that's such a stupid way of thinking In this analytics era, still let me have my old school ignorant thoughts!!

I forgot to ask, does anyone play daily fantasy? The next few months is going to be huge with baseball, you can really make some money playing. Or at least have fun and sweat during games you wouldn't necessarily watch. It's definitely worth checking out, bloody fun and really does help get to know the league better as you're constantly looking at stats and a variety of players who are hidden gems.

  18. Yeah I'm going to be watching tonight, I sure have missed baseball. When I was a complete degenerate, baseball was the greatest sport to ever bet on. Between the choice of games and that fact it's the easiest of all sports to predict (regular season), meant I have very fond memories in the Summer months. There is no better bet than the -1.5 run line, two games is about 5 to 1.

Anyway onto the season, and I'm just happy the MLB decided to at least try and appeal to more than old white men with the new speed up rules. A baseball game which lasts between 2 and a half hours to 3 hours is perfection, one which lasts near 4 hours is a harrowing watch. Especially as a lot of that is wasted time which is can easily be rid of.

As for which teams will be successful, obviously the Dodgers & Angels will be taking the place of the Yankees and RedSox this year so they are going to be in the mix. But the Cubs will be interesting, yes they have their 5 year plan in place and tell everyone to not get too excited yet. But all you need to do is actually make the playoffs then it really is anybodies for the taking, their division isn't a bloodbath so it's doable. Hell the RedSox won in 2013 on a very similar model, so if the Cubs should just remember if that it's not that difficult to replicate. Plus 29 to 1 odds, that's great odds if you want a fun little sweat.

My one hope for this season is that A-Rod has a monster year, if only for the hilarity it will cause as the Yankees are praying he fucks off (they could have just bought him out!) and they won't have to deal with everything. There is no more fascinating player in sports than him, I love the guy for all the weird stories I've heard over the years about him.

  19. I'm pretty sure Better Call Saul is set in about 2002, so five or so years before Breaking Bad. Though not entirely sure of how they are going to pace It, considering Breaking Bad happened over one year time wise. It does seem like that won't be the case for Saul though, makes more sense for each season being a year in that universe.

Once again, like others have said, this show is just brilliant. There really isn't much more that needs to be said, I'm enjoying all the new characters whilst learning more about the ones I know. I am itching for when he becomes Saul Goodman, I can't wait to see what they do for that.

As for Mad Men - I remember Chuck Klosterman saying how there are certain people and shows which are their own sort of greatness and they are working on a different level as their competitors and can't really be compared, as they are playing by different rules. He said Mad Men was one of these,

I would agree 100% with that, Mad Men is a show which should probably go down as the greatest of all time. However it won't because of how it's been handled, the final season has barely been advertised and people have sort of forgotten about it.There is a great piece about "what if Mad Men was on HBO", I truly believe if it were people would be discussing it differently.

The show itself is the most beautifully made show I've ever watched. I can never do it justice for how great it is. There are episodes which have left me speechless and feel things that no other show has ever done.

I probably sound like a complete idiot, but honestly this show is something else. It's the show I respect the most, if I were asked which show would I want to be known for making, out of all the great tv shows, Mad Men would be my choice.

  20. Going Clear was on HBO and I watched it before work, I don't think I've been as excited for a documentary as I was with this it was hyped up all week. It's the Alex Gibney Scientology documentary, if you've not see any of Gibney's documentaries check them out. Especially Enron: The smartest men in the room, it's just brilliant.

Anyway this is also great, basically shits all over Scientology, but it really goes to another level when they start talking about Tom Cruise. That's when it starts to get weird, in the greatest way possible. It won't disappoint! (I can't stress how amazing the Tom Cruise bit is.)

Social media seems to really have made Scientology a joke these days, don't get me wrong it was always a joke, it's just now there's so many voices calling it shit that they can't really do anything about it.

David Miscavige is an evil genius, he deserves so much praise for what he did for Scientology. Without him Scientology would be nothing, he is the Vince McMahon of the church. I actually have a sort of respect for the guy's business savvy and ruthless nature. Watch the documentary and you will understand why I say that. Actually, Vince has nothing on this guy!

Anyway, if you want a link and can't be bothered to find one, here is the one I used. (If links to these places are a no no I will delete it.)

    http://gorillavid.in/5d6i59o80hci

  21. As this is the Raw after Mania I actually watched it in full, well mostly. Overall I bloody enjoyed it, Brock is a beast and whilst I can no longer stand Steph I thought that segment was pretty well done. We all know Brock isn't doing many dates, but at least this way they can do something other than him just leaving.

Plus it means competitive championship matches, which I'm sure is something they want. Rollins was perfect as well, he really is a great heel.

I don't want to write a full Raw write up, I will however say that I bloody loved Cena vs Ambrose. How do people still boo Cena when he is in on the joke and makes fun of them? Wouldn't that make you stop, being mocked by the guy you're trying to mock? I'm such a fan of his and everything he does, and Ambrose being the one for the open challenge made me super excited. Loved the match and all I want is Ambrose to look good and not to be shat on. I thought they did a good job with making him look good.

I actually am really into the U.S title now and where they go with it, fuck the I.C title, I don't actually care about those matches. The U.S title ones are going to be where it's at! Hopefully they can come back to a Cena vs Ambrose feud as I like the look of that.

And it's safe to say Cena is holding the belt for a while, he's got those shirts to sell. Which I'm fine with, it's John Cena, by wrestling logic the 15 time world champ should hold the second tier belt as long as he wants, no mid-carder should be able to beat him.

The rest of the show wasn't that interesting, I don't care about the shitty main when every week it seems like the same damn thing.
