Was much of this recorded by anyone and out there in circulation?

The early Eurosports were from the 1990 - '94 period or thereabouts. Some matches from ppv's, Dontaku etc. & some circuit stuff. I've got a couple of volumes, but they're nothing to write home about. The 2007 airings covered a period around '05. Pretty uninspiring stuff, as NJPW largely was at that point in time.

  2. Liger vs. Kanemoto for the Jr. Title at the Tokyo Dome, 4th Jan. 2000. Not on youtube, as far as I'm aware.

Runs 3:56.  Liger's work is crisp, stiff and the match is pretty much a demolition / squash. Someone has it listed as his 4th best match of all time. Not sure I'd go that far, but it was cetainly memorable.

I think he had another very short match, barely got started as I recall. The mask was ripped off and all manner of shenanigans ensued, but struggling to recall the opponent or event.

  3. Nobody willing to comment on the utter, utter shitshow of a performance by the EU during the past 12 months? (I'd argue the past 47 years). Look at the fucking state of 'em. And you still want to be part of that. Just as well the grown-ups took over. Unlike your vote, your feelings and what you think never mattered anyway.

  4. I've got these, if you run out of options. Only the Eurosport stuff has English commentary.

I'm somewhat nervous that Will Ospreay will be a finalist/win, because he's really not someone I want to watch.

A point you've made previously. Now that we've all got that, perhaps you could shut up about it. He was probably working & starring for NJPW before you were watching the product & isn't likely to be fading into the background any time soon. Stage your one-man protest, but at least have the courage of your 'convictions', because the way it reads is; I'd rather not watch him, but I'll see how I feel at the time, which for anybody with genuine standards / convictions is laughable. It's just posturing and this board is full of that already.

  6. This is more by way of a 'have a look, if you want' type of post. I've recently rebuilt & generally tarted-up my blog/thing. Added lots of new photo's, video & other links. If you have any leanings towards Puro & Joshi, or old school British wrestling, you may hopefully find something of use or interest...even if it's only Dynamite Kid wearing Sayama's mask or marvelling at that dirty heel Cockroach Mask.

Whilst there are plenty of merchandise photo's, this isn't a plug for any of that. It's primarily a referencing system for my own purposes and I have zero interest in selling or trading anything - so please don't ask. That aside, enjoy it or not as the case may be.

A thread was removed, we can’t name him but if that only applies to this thread and isn’t forum wide then fair enough. But yes, let’s not name him to preserve the good nature of calling people dolts and how their white noise posts stink up the forum. I’m sure those on the receiving end take it all with great humour.

After 27 years of virtually relentless depression, 10 months of hardcore lockdown & blood cancer for the third time, which I'm currently choosing not to have treated and will likely lead to the inevitable, 'nominations' on here mean about as much as you'd imagine. So, if it saves someone less obnoxious than me from being ridiculed, shoot your votes my way.

How much of a star does Kenny Omega come across

    He has been for years.

Pretty amazed at this 'revelation' (as seems to be largely the case on here). Did people think the reporting of his 5+ star matches, or his character, in Japan was some kind of urban myth? Hardly excuseable in this day & age. Can't be that difficult to find the footage. OK, you may just have chosen not to watch it, but if I came on here saying how great some former WWE worker looked, never having watched them for the previous umpteen years, through choice, I can imagine the response(s). He is that good and we've been telling anyone that'd listen, for years. I think the IWGP Heavyweight Title probably trumps a dodgy heel turn & an appearance or two on IMPACT. Glad everyone's finally enjoying him at something like his best.

So, a 28 day lockdown, supposedly planned to end on 2nd December. At best, that'll leave the daily infection rate remaining at a ridiculously high level. End the lockdown, go straight into Christmas and its ensuing carnage, necessitating a longer lockdown shortly after.
An alternative would be some kind of return to the tier system, which at best will stave Covid off to a degree, but ultimately won't work. It's Johnson's project & he's been right on absolutely nothing so far.
The other possibility is that they already know the lockdown must continue and will simply extend it. They wouldn't have the balls to announce it now.
I would ask why we always have to be 2 months behind, but it's simple, we have dangerously stupid 'leaders', lacking in courage, weak and scared....I'm a fucking sage compared to these chumps. The money and lives they've cost through piss-poor judgement, in so many areas. Anyway, Covid will be  having a lovely old Christmas...best ever. Ho ho ho.

So here we go again. Being right is no consolation. Just fucking depressing.

  10. "Super J-Cup" doesn't contain 1 Japanese wrestler and if they have a venue for it, they ain't saying. Perculiar way of conducting your business. Presumably, it's going to be held in the U.S, given that most, if not all competitors are based there. I'll be giving it a wide berth either way.

  11. I don't think the National Title existed in the days when I watched NOAH on a more regular basis. Was it designed for Japanese competitors only, with GHC Heavyweight open to all comers?..or just an additional belt to compete for? Kenoh v Saku sounds interesting. I enjoyed early Taniguchi as a wrestler, but not so much as Maybach. Glad to see that's gone now.

  12. I nearly mentioned the announce team. After 20 years of listening to it, I've become totally accustomed to Japanese commentary, which generates the excitement, yet doesn't patronise or piss me off. I really struggle with English/American and can happily watch a match with no commentary at all. This was well done though. Informative, without being too intrusive & treating the matches more as a legit' sporting contests than 'pro wrestling'. Not sure if the Scots guy is the same one who covered Pancrase a few years ago. Top marks anyway to both gentlemen.

  13. If your take on the main was similar to mine, shouldn't Shiozaki have simply been counted out? I know it wouldn't have suited the narrative and it's a very rare situation, though twice for him bizarrely enough. It just kinda took a dump on anything resembling rules. I still enjoyed the match, but that's pretty dificult to overlook.

Go / Sugiura should be a decent match. Both still looking in good nick. Maybe they should have somebody on standby for a run-in, just in case Shiozaki lapses into unconciousness again.

  14. Lower budget version of his New Japan entrance when he was a 'heel', except he wasn't really a heel (unless you're bothered about factions). Just as over, with or without the cleaner gimmick. Having one of the best singles wrestlers in the world, as part of a tag-team, was a dumb idea in the first place. Let him do what he does best, while he still can. I'm with Meltzer on this one.  The bloke's just doing what he did in Japan. A less humble version of him maybe, but unless he starts throwing fire paper or using sledgehammers to win matches, I don't see that much heel in him.

  15. I glanced at an article the other week concerning Solskjaer's management of Utd. The suggestion was, that whilst they can be quite effective playing against expansive teams, the struggles come when they're faced with sides, playing a low-block or simply put, defending deep.

The suggestion being, he lacks the modern coaching skills of the Klopps & Poch's etc. I don't see enough of them to really judge, but I figured there might be some creedance to what he said. Today, I saw this piece of genius from Solskjaer himself: "Sometimes I felt the whole team was way too much over to the left. We were too open down the right, too many players wanted to play football over to the other side".

Whilst I understand his drift (I've seen that with my own team, at times), it shouldn't take more than 45 minutes (let's say a first half) to correct that. Seems an over-simplistic explanation for clearly more deep-rooted issues.

  16. Had a look at the GHC Tag & Heavyweight matches last night. Both pretty enjoyable as it goes. Always happy to see SAKU. Funaki looking good too. Average age of the participants in that match is 48 (brought down by Marufuji, at a tender 41).

The main was heading towards a 5-star match, but whilst I have no issues with guys chopping the shit out of each other (particularly in Japan), it perhaps became a bit one dimensional for my taste. An easy watch anyway. Couldn't tell if Shiozaki was 'out' at one point. It looked like it. Oddly enough, the last match I saw of his in All Japan was a 2/3 falls, which should really have been awarded to his opponent, as he was evidently unconcious at one stage. They somehow bumblefucked throught that, but it put me off watching their product & him in particular. This was more like an old school NOAH match. I hardly recognised Nakajima, with his new look. Bored of saying it, but NJPW should've picked him up years ago, unless there's an issue I'm unaware of.

-Whilst it's clear enough in the opening post that the event was held at Yokohama Budokan, it should perhaps be noted that this is a new facility (also used by STARDOM) & not THE Budokan, which obv's is located in Tokyo-
