  1. Cheap 70s compilations absolutely knackered me in the 90s — I can't listen to the originals of some Badfinger/Marmalad/Dobie Gray songs, as they're far superior in quality, but they just don't give me that cheap nostalgia hit that I'm after.

For example, I can hear that this is inferior in every way to his original version in pretty much every way, but it just takes me back to listening to a 99p tape from the newsagents, playing Rings of Power on the Megadrive, and having not a care in the world.

  2. Has anyone posted Julian  Richings in here? He's ace, looks like a human dog, and one on its last legs at that.

Luckily, just noticed that the computer had autocorrected it to "Juliana Richings." My wife's name is Juliana, she'd have not been happy over that, rightly.

    That chicken looks amazing.

It was absolutely blinding. I might get the chicken breader, and some of the BBQ sauce.

I might also get some apparel, so I can be a full kit wanker, but it's for a BBQ restaurant.

EDIT — just noticed they don't sell the breading online. They do have it in the store.

  4. I went to that place in Brighton a couple of times, pre and post Gordon. Food the first time around was loads better.

Also met Cliff Richard outside of it - the friend I was with had been going on for years about how her uncle was in Cliff's touring band or something, and had shown me his wedding video. Cliff was there, and he told her off (she was about six years old) for being too shy to dance on the video. She told him "You were at my uncle Gary's wedding, you told me off for being shy!" and he looked at her, totally blank. Probably scared. I reckon she was never the same after that.

  5. Had a knackering day, went to return our rental car, get our old number plate, and put a down payment on our new car, so we rewarded ourselves with barbecue at a local chain called Smithfield.

lovely hush puppies, tasty coleslaw (bit sweet tho), good bbq, amazing chicken. Potato salad was a bit too much like a dessert, weirdly.

Are there any Excel gurus here?

Basically I have a spreadsheet with staff names and their date of birth. I want to be able to open this spreadsheet on a Monday morning and it highlight the data in some way to say which staff have a birthday in the next 7 days. I'm guessing conditional formatting is the way forward but I can't work it out!

I've just done it with a filter for the week — put in the dates, formatted with just day and month, and then filter the sheet, and filter the date column by label > this week.

I’m always so nervous when I see this thread bumped because I naturally expect the worst. Unfortunately, today is the day I upset those who have the same worry.

My 10 year old cat Lily has today been diagnosed with lymphoma and to say I am devastated would be a massive understatement.

Over the last week her appetite has decreased significantly. It happened to coincide with the day we tried her on a different brand of food and I assumed she was just being picky, but it carried on after switching back to the original stuff. I took her to the vets yesterday and they initially said she has a heart murmur and enlarged intestines with some mild dehydration, so they gave her some drugs to increase her appetite which didn’t really seem to do much.

When I woke up this morning, I just knew she was ill. She’s usually in bed with us by 6am trying to wake us up for food, even in the last few days, but today she just stayed on the landing and didn’t seem bothered at all. I was a bit encouraged when she ate some biscuits and she was purring like a motherfucker when I gave her some attention, but I took her back to the vets and, yeah, lymphoma.

I now need to make the decision of chemotherapy, palliative care or having her put to sleep. After a quick google search, chemo seems to do quite well with certain types of lymphoma, but not others, and unfortunately the type she most likely has has the worst prognosis. I’d imagine we’ll bring her home and keep her comfortable for a few weeks - my fiancée is in Spain this week and I can’t have her put to sleep without giving her the chance to say goodbye.

So yeah, really sorry to bring the mood down. I’m a complete wreck at the moment and I have no idea how I’m going to go to work tomorrow and for the next few weeks when I want to spend every last minute with her.

Fuck getting another pet, I’m not sure this pain is worth it.

Oh, mate — I'm so sorry. Hope you're able to have some quality time with her.
