  1. Did we do something similar a few years ago? I seem to remember the crushing disappointment that nobody had played or cared about Freespace 2. Look, Iā€™m not bothered, itā€™s just the best game ever. [/tears]

    10 pts: Freespace 2 (PC)
    9 pts: CM97/98 (PC)
8 pts: Streets of rage 2 (Mega drive)
    7 pts: Goldeneye (N64)
    6 pts: Super Mario 64 (N64)
    5 pts: Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (PS2)
4 pts: Super Mario Land 3: Warioland (GB)
3 pts: Smackdown: Just bring it (PS2)
    2 pts: Civilization 2 (PC)
    1 pt: Overcooked (Switch)

My kids are Cbeebies age and obsessed with it. Nick Cope Popcast is there absolute favourite at the moment, both me and my husband find ourselves wondering around singing 'the babys done a poo' out loud at random times

ā€œFamily of catsā€ is my favourite one of his. New Numberblocks episodes have been airing over the last couple of weeks, which is great news as itā€™s meant an end to a good month of endless Colourblocks, which is hugely inferior and shit and boring.Ā

Dune (the Lynch one): This isn't half as bad as I remembered it to be, I can see how it'd be a complete mess for anyone not familar to the story though as it just skips through massive portions or gives you really bad exposition from an ethereal voice. It still looks gorgeous though with the weirdest set and costume designs, the Shai Hulud look great for the time too with Dale Cooper and Big Ed Hurley on them like they're drunk joyriding. I dunno about milking that cat though...

Watched it for the first time recently as well, though Iā€™ve read the book and watch Villeneuveā€™s part 1. My wife had no idea of the story so we had to keep stopping it so I could explain stuff, as thereā€™s so much missing. But, she loved it, and I got a good kick of out it as well, mostly because it had Captain Picard and Al from Quantum Leap in it.Ā

  4. Foley being 34 in 2000 has blown my mind a bit. I presumed he was well into his 40ā€™s by that point. I have the vaguest memory of seeing him as enhancement talent ā€œJack Foleyā€ against someone (Hercules?) on one of those WWE rewind/classic shows they used to show on Sky, so just presumed he was way older.Ā

  5. Covid is such a fuck. Just the, yā€™know, 200 deaths in the last week. Blows my mind how normalised it is now. No boosters for working age people, no paxlovid for working age people, just get seriously ill for a few days with usually weeks of recovery and potentially months or years of the virus just hanging around your system causing all kinds of havoc. Cheers tories!

Sorry @d-d-d-dAzĀ not trying to armchair diagnose you, it just reminded me what a shitter covid is. I hope itā€™s nothing too serious and youā€™re back to full pelotonning soon.Ā

Nothing definitive it seems. Thereā€™s a cheap USB fix for some issues and another that requires soldering, and also one that requires you had essential files already saved in the case this happened.

Thankfully I saw all this kicking off last year so plugged mine in to check it and it works fine still. I still have a lot of love for the Wii U, even if the Switch made it entirely obsolete.

My wife bought me one for my birthday several years ago, about 2 weeks before our youngest was born. I think Iā€™ve played on it about twice, but itā€™s been on my mind to unbox it and try it out now the kids are older. But now I have the fear itā€™ll die before I get to do anything with it!

    That's amazing @FLips

Maybe that iPhone in a bowl of rice thing IS real after all.

Without wanting to go too off topic. The button on my electric toothbrush wore away, exposing the electronics inside. Water got in and it was completely fritzed. Put it in a bag full of rice for 2 days, completely back to normal.

Anyway, retro gaming. Has anyone figured out the Wii U bricking problem after itā€™s been switched off for years?Ā

  8. Read a couple of autobiographies that I got for Christmas. First wasĀ Reborn in the USA, by Roger Bennett ofĀ Men in BlazersĀ fame (or non-fame). Itā€™s a coming of age story about growing up as a Jewish kid in Liverpool in the 70s and 80s, where he develops an insatiable passion for all things American. Despite some bleak moments, he writes with the acceptance of having grown older, and as heā€™s never afraid to poke fun at himself, I read the whole thing with a smile on my face. Heā€™s a funny, warm bloke and it really shines through in this book.

The other wasĀ My effin life, by Geddy Lee fromĀ Rush. Full disclosure, Iā€™m a massive Rush fan. Iā€™m not sure what I was expecting really. Thereā€™s a chapter that goes into great detail about his parents experiences in WW2 concentration camps, which is extremely harrowing. Most of the rest is his career in Rush, which comprises of recording albums, touring, and doing drugs. And actually, after about the 7th album, itā€™s pretty boring and extremely repetitive. (And thatā€™s just the music AMIRITE!!!!1) Even though itā€™s a ā€œwith [someone]ā€ autobiography, none of his obvious non-writer tendencies seem to get reined in, he waffles on and around things but itā€™s all just a bit woolly and I couldnā€™t wait to finish it.

  9. We had a cat at uni, amazingly he didnā€™t die during our time in the shared house and was pretty well looked after. He was a great lad, very loving, used to claw at my door while I was trying to sleep off a hangover.Ā The last time I saw him would have been 2006-7.

So anyway, uni finishes, life goes on. He gets adopted by my friendā€™s mum. I didnā€™t really think about him after a while, especially the last few years after having kids and whatknot. One evening last year I was washing up and suddenly started thinking about him again, very strongly, just all the memories come flooding back. My eldest came in and I started waffling on for ages about our old cat who was a total legend. Next day my mate posted on Facebook that the old fella had passed away. Wish I could have seen him one last time, but such is life. RIP mate. Ā

  10. All of us strangers:Ā part of the story had me crying into my burrito near the end, it was touching and beautiful. I didnā€™t find the love story part compelling, because the love interest bloke reminded me of people I tangentially knew at uni that I didnā€™t like. Overall it just felt like it was trying to cover too much ground and lost a bit of its way, especially the very end, which just seemed gratuitously sad. Even though I understand why he did it, I donā€™t agree that it the best way to end the film.

Worth watching for the arc about main character and his parents.Ā

  11. I have a generally low bar for what I consider to be a ā€œgoodā€ or enjoyable film. That said, Argylle is probably the worst film Iā€™ve ever seen, and Iā€™ve seenĀ Battlefield EarthĀ and a couple of Neil Breen efforts. Itā€™s completely irredeemable in every department, just totally wretched beyond belief. @Devon MalcolmĀ you might have to step in, take one for the team and watch this.Ā

Argylle, a lot has been said about reasons it's dogshit but I've of the things that REALLY annoyed me about it was

    Ā  Reveal hidden contents

The use of the Beatles song that only came out in November. All the way through the film I was assuming that non of it was real (potentially all part of the cats imagination) because of how many plot holes and how ridiculous it was and this was only enforced by the use of that song, it's referred to as their song, it's part of the brainwashing process, it's a plot point but it wasn't out then! Everything else being ridiculous I could live with but not that, it it had all been in the cats imagination then I could have let it slide but no!Ā

    Ā

God, I forgot about that. Too many shit things to remember about why I hate it.

I think itā€™s even worse than Wonder Woman ā€˜84, another humourless waste of time and effort that was about 4 hours too long.Ā

  13. Hard Fi. It doesnā€™t mean anything and itā€™s stupid, plus their music is unbearably shit.

Scouting for girls.Ā Announcing yourself with the biggest of sex pest red flags and the worsest of music. Terrible.

    Pigeon detectives.Ā Rubbish.

One of the characters shouts ā€œThis is the dumbest shit ive ever heard!ā€ and then after that a character sticks knives in their shoes and ā€œice skatesā€ around a room thatā€™s been flooded with crude oil šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøĀ

I guess itā€™s always good to see Big Match John

    Ā

One of the worst films Iā€™ve ever seen. It has no heart, itā€™s not funny, the characters are not very likeable, neither of the leads are really suited to being action heroes, the story is stupid but in a really boring way, the action is dull, the whole thing goes on far too long.Ā

Apart from that, everything was great.Ā

  15. Feel for Mollie, sheā€™s been played like a fiddle and must be totally crushed. Iā€™m not saying she shouldnā€™t have done better, but being so young and in a super high pressure situation like that, I can understand why she went with her heart. Harry was most ā€œdeservingā€ I suppose, but he can still fuck off.
