  1. Money in the Bank 2011 still stands out of them getting something perfect . . . for that one night. The moment Punk blows the kiss to Vince is incredible.

Owens beating Styles clean felt absolutely massive at the time. It was before Cena started jobbing to everyone.

Nakamura debut. Again perfect for one night.

And yeah as many have said - Becky being "The Man"

Probably more because Tyson genuinely hates doing press and so says things to amuse himself half the time. He’s also a massive wind-up merchant.

Robinbobs, I think we’re all very glad you’re hear ‘speaking your truth’, as you say. We just wish there wasn’t quite so much of it.

Stuff to amuse himself which sadly ends up being homophobic and misogynistic.

My only experience of WWF live before Capital Carnage had been a UK Rampage event where we sat on floor seats and struggled to see for most of the event. This time my parents were sensible enough to buy tiered seating thank fuck, although I do like looking back at my photos from the Rampage event and seeing who I saw live. Pretty mental really. Most dead obviously.

Timing wise this was the month after Survivor Series - Deadly Game so couldn't have asked for much more in terms of excitement. Granted, it wasn't the best card:

    No. Results[2] Stipulations Times[2]
1D Droz defeated Mosh Singles match 6:00
2 Gangrel defeated Al Snow (with Head) Singles match 5:51
3 The Headbangers (Mosh and Thrasher) defeated The Legion of Doom (Animal and Droz) Tag team match 3:21
4 Val Venis defeated Goldust Singles match 5:33
5 Tiger Ali Singh defeated Edge Singles match 2:51
6 Christian and Sable defeated Jacqueline and Marc Mero Mixed tag team match 4:49
7 Ken Shamrock (c) (with Big Boss Man) defeated Steve Blackman by submission Singles match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship 6:51
8 Triple H (with Chyna) defeated Jeff Jarrett (with Debra) Singles match 6:55
9 The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) (c) defeated D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry Tag team match for the WWF Tag Team Championship 12:34
10 The Rock (c) defeated X-Pac (with Chyna and Triple H) by disqualification Singles match for the WWF Championship 12:34
11 Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Kane, Mankind and The Undertaker (with Paul Bearer) Fatal 4-Way match with Gerald Brisco as special guest referee 16:12

BUT in terms of seeing that amount of star power on a UK card LIVE was my wet dream basically.

I also nearly wet myself with excitement when Edge ran past me through the crowd.

And I got to see Jacqueline's boobs which was as mortifying as it was exciting.

    Oh and Vinnie Jones!

Honestly I loved it live and I'll watch it every so often just for nostalgia kicks.

Stacked card at the top though! Rock, Kane, Taker, Foley, Triple H, Austin is a good lot.

But double duty from Mosh and Droz

  4. I personally don't have an issue with it - I think it adds something if it's done well. I don't spend my time watching matches looking for it to be honest though.

An eagle-eyed viewer might be able to see the thigh slap. A pedant, might be able to see the thigh slap. But I think if you're looking at the thigh slaps you're ignoring the story. If you go to a puppet show you can see the wires. But it's about the puppets, it's not about the string. If you go to a Punch And Judy show and you're only watching the wires, you're a freak.

Plus Vince will change his mind in a week.

Joe is a good, but for me very temporary, shout. I think when he was in NXT, the expectation (or web-rumour) was that he was staying in NXT Kassius Ohno style with no plans to ever bring him up to mains. When they did, I think it was possibly a year too late and it was the injuries more than anything that stopped him properly taking off. The short period where I thought he was definitely going to be a top guy in WWE was the build-up to the Brock feud. He felt like he was on Brock's level and was his equal. Then they did the match and he was taken down by one F5 and that was that.

Similar to my Paul London phase, around the mid-2000s I was fully bought into Paul Heyman's OVW. Used to buy the monthly TV on DVD and everything. I had completely convinced myself that a bunch of the guys Heyman was pushing in developmental were going to be the next big set of stars in WWE, just like when you'd read the Ross Report and hear about Randy Orton and Shelton Benjamin from JR and wait for them to break through.

Johnny Jeter was the next Chris Jericho, and his angles after turning on Matt Cappotelli proved he was the next big dickhead heel. Properly hateable. Then they put him in the Spirit Squad, he never recovered and I shut up about him pretty quickly. I think he got quietly released once the Squad were DX-ed back to OVW.

Ken Doane was the next Randy Orton, the guy was a teenager and he had all the skills and Heyman even had Orton come to OVW for a match with him (that Doane might have won). Then they put him in the Spirit Squad too and even though he got repackaged as Dykstra, he never really recovered either. I shut up about him quicker than Jeter.

Brent Albright was the next Chris Benoit, the greatest technical wrestler on the books who was all about the wrestling ability. Then they made him Gunner Scott and I still believed and then Great Khali shoved him in a bodybag or something and once again, I shut up about him.

Thinking back, the only real big stars who came out of Heyman's OVW were CM Punk and Bobby 'Blaster' Lashley, and Punk had his hype from ROH already so that doesn't count, and Lashley didn't come across as a star back then like the guys above. They even did an episode of OVW where the whole show was a Triple Threat of Albright vs. Punk vs. Doane which in my head was "this is a future WrestleMania main event, this". Well, I got that one wrong...

Probably speaks once again to how well Heyman knows how to book guys in terms of accentuating their positives. He must have been fuming when they were all made male cheerleaders.

Michael Cole's best work when he was properly heeling it up on the women's NXT which then carried into Raw.

"I used to be a war correspondent now I'm covering this!"

Joe Galli and Stu Bennett were brilliant on NWA Powerrr (much like everything else on the show). Treated it seriously without acting like the audience were idiots.

The episode with Punk and Cole on commentary when Cole turns up part way through is magic.

Same here. Being brutally honest, I kind of relish the wave of negativity surrounding WWE.

Knowing what we know about the McMahon's and their views and shitty practices, a massive fall from grace (as unlikely as it is) couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

I wish my fall from grace included signing a billion dollar streaming deal.

  8. Piper winning the IC title at Rumble 92 from the Mountie is an absolute monster pop.

D'von reuniting the Dudleys at MSG was a big one as well.

I remember everyone being super into the D'Lo vs X-pac European title series.

He wishes he only took it 7 times.

According to WrestlingData, Awesome & Tanaka were on opposite sides 21 times in the original ECW on top of 2 times in Zero-One, 2 matches in Hustle, once in the original MLW and  146 matches in FMW.

That’s not to say that he took it every time, but it’s certainly more than 7

Although it does seem that turn about was fair play:

I thought all the matches were great, even if the rest of the show lacked at times. Jericho & MJF’s segment was good fun, and throw in Kingston on commentary for the main as an added bonus. Good episode but lacked that anniversary surprise I was expecting

You were hoping for former WWE Champion Al Snow? ;)

  11. Some 'slight' cheating here but . . . shut up.

    Michael Cole on Commentary

Tag Match - (ref Mike Chioda)

Marcus Cor Von and Matt Coffey vs Matt Cordona and Matt Capotelli - The plucky babyface team of Capotelli and Cordona are booed loudly as they are brutalised and Pounced. Period. Cor Von and Coffey win.

    Singles Match  (ref Mike Chioda)

Matt Cross vs  Matt Clement (Tyler Breeze) - Could be a blinder potentially - fast paced affair. Crowd chants this is awesome. Matt Cross Wins (I'd actually quite like to see this one)

Hadcore Singles Match (ref Mike Chioda)

Melanie Cruize vs Melissa Coates - The hugely powerful Coates dominates the match with her power but the disturbed Cruise keeps coming back with weapons shots. Eventually powerbombed through a table for the Melissa Coates win.

MAIN EVENT - ICON vs ICON  (ref Mike Chioda)

Masahiro Chono vs Mark Callaway (wrestling in his little known 'Undertaker' gimmick) -  I don't need to sell you on this - one of the biggest stars in Japan vs one of the biggest stars in the west. Solid 30 minute match - Spammed finishers and emotional spots. Mark Callaway Wins

  12. I wonder what would have happened if they’d broken the bank to bring in one of then WCW big names as a face at the time (would have messed up the invasion but if you’d broken the bank to get Goldberg or Sting?
