  1. Metal Hammer magazine posted an article on their Facebook earlier about a bloke who is a recovering alcoholic and has set up a record shop that also has a fully stocked non-alcoholic bar and coffee shop to give non-drinkers an alternative place to hang out. Pretty inspiring stuff you'd think but no, some twat comments saying that "wokeness has no place in metal" and he won't be visiting. Being teetotal is woke apparently.

It's metalheads on social media, I know, I know, you should expect complete binwater opinions but this one just baffled me.

  2. We went to see the new Ghosbusters at the cinema on Friday night as a family. Got our snacks and took our seats with about 20 minutes to spare before the film started. I'd got us good seats and my wife and youngest son, who are both pretty short and have had no end of cinema trips ruined because of obstructed views, both pointed out how they hoped nobody sat next to or infront of them as they had a good view of the screen and a bit of space. I went on the cinema website and started a booking for the 9 seats around and infront of us and kept refreshing it when the order timed out so they were unable to be booked if anybody turned up at the last minute and remained empty.

I used to run a fancy dress shop in the mid-2000s and the catalogues to order stock from were a treasure trove of "We don't have a model of the right ethnicity for this costume, fuck it, get the greasepaint out" product pictures.

Yeah I've seen them a few times, they support a bunch round here and sound ace. Finished with a good bit of Cathedral worship.

They're on the same label as us, they're good lads. Got that real thick, sticky sludge sound.

Was at the Conan/Wallowing show in Sheffield on Friday night. Great showing from all 3 acts (Gozer opened the night) but being shoved upstairs at Corporation because the main room was being occupied by a Mötley Crüe tribute act was a disgrace. @cobra_gordo I’d already bought the tickets before I was aware you were on the Nottingham date, otherwise I’d have come down for that one.

We tried to get on that Sheffield show too to make a weekend of it but no joy. Gozer are a cracking band, we're good mates with them too. That upstairs room is underrated. Last time we played with Conan at Corp it was in the small room downstairs and I'm assuming it would have been the same this time, even without that tribute band on. The upstairs venue is at least pretty sizeable, it's got that nice bar area and there's good sound.

Sunday was Wallowing and Conan, both sounding better than I've ever heard from them before and the place was rammed. Bile Caster were a support I didn't know and they were slow as molasses, perfect sludge.

We played with them the Saturday night in Nottingham at Rough Trade. Played with both before and Wallowing are good friends of ours but they were both unreal the other night, Conan especially. Did you catch Voidlurker?

  7. I saw them last year with Municipal Waste and they were still brilliant. I've never been Joey's biggest fan but he's gotten way better live. The whole setlist was belting which helped and they've started to play some John Bush era stuff.

Joey Belladonna struggles a bit these days. The rest of the band are still great.

I dunno, I thought he was really good on the last tour, way better than I've seen from him previously.

He also doesn't call the Bucks "The Young Fucks". Cornette calls them "Buckaroos". Which, like almost all his nicknames for wrestlers he doesn't like, doesn't make any sense.

Might be because they share a finisher with this guy

Yeah was a really good night, although I had to duck out towards the end as the car park I’ve been using closes at 11pm. Not sure what time the show actually finished, but my heart did sink a little when I saw ‘Napalm Death 9:55-END’, I knew I was missing the end. Second time in a row that’s happened to me at Corporation so I’m going to just pay for on street parking when I go to see Conan there next week, I’m not driving 90 minutes to Sheffield and back again and not see the whole thing.

Great to see merch at decent price too

I'm assuming that's Atkinsons car park? Street parking around there is pretty safe, if you drive round the corner from Corp there's Devonshire Green and there's a bit more parking on there and a proper car park at the top of the hill before you get to the main road (West Street). I was surprised by the late finish as it was advertised as a half 10 finish but they'd brough the doors 30 minutes earlier, I'm assuming to give Pig Destroyer a longer set.

It was all acceptably priced, was frustrating that Primitive Man had sold out of a lot of bigger sizes already. I didn't realise until later on that I'd been charged in dollars and not pounds so got my PD longsleeve for 28 quid instead of 35 which was a nice surprise until I found out when I got home that their XLs fit like larges so I can't actually wear my bargain longy.

  10. Napalm Death/ Pig Destroyer/ Primitive Man/ Wormrot in Sheffield last night was as brilliant as can be expected. Primitive Man on the barrier was biblical but Pig Destroyer were something else. I've been a fan since Terrifyer came out but have never managed to catch them live. Bonus balloons and cake as it was Scott Hull's birthday.

  11. I've been a bit obsessed with the new Job For A Cowboy album Moon Healer since it came out just shy of a couple of weeks ago. Progressive, technical death metal with plenty of melodeath influence and just a touch of their deathcore roots thrown in for good measure. Absolutely ridiculous bass tone too.

  12. Really quite upset at hearing Dave Myers has died. They were both so likeable and easy to watch and genuinely felt like good blokes that wanted to share their love of food. Dave's recipes he'd clearly pinched off his wife were always favourites to make in our house and his legacy for me will always be introducing uzbek plov to our family. What a sad loss.

  13. Hello Peril were a highlight of the film Always Be My Maybe. I was hoping they'd be a real band because the songs are great but sadly not. They've only got three tracks out but they're all bangers and have made their way on to our car playlist.

This has jogged my memory that I once went to an evening with Bear Grylls event with my Dad, who loves that sort of shit.

It was rubbish. He ziplined onto the stage which to be fair was quite cool, but then most of the time just went on about God.

We went to that because we'd got some free tickets with a £3 booking fee from Show Film First. Ended up getting floor level seats where the tickets should have been £65 each and still felt ripped off. Like you say, zip lining, a bit where the special effect mountain wall malfunctioned so he mimed climbing up a rock face and yes, several references to our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. The best bits were where he went off script to explain his miming skills and when he lit a fire near the sound desk with a boy scout.

  15. I watched Anyone But You (Amazon Crime) last night because I needed something light to end the weekend on. It's by the numbers and predictable but with enough laughs that I enjoyed enjoyed myself more than I thought I would. Will more than likely get a rewatch if I need something not too complex to have on in the background. It's also responsible for me waking up at 3am with Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield stuck in my head.

  16. Harvey Fierstein's voice soothes my soul. Tragically no megacuts of his parts in Mrs Doubtfire and Independence Day so have him giving Barbara Walters grief instead.

I fucking love Nathan Lane. His talking voice it's pretty close to Billy Crystal's but with the added bonus of the Tom and Jerry screams and actually being likeable.

We're in the quarter finals and we still don't know what's on the line.

Is the prize a Jeep like OG Gladiators?

  18. I saw Bowling For Soup on their last ever, honest, Uk tour a few years back and they were fairly disappointing. We left after they did the Phineas and Ferb theme as there was no topping that.

  19. Working from hone and stressed so wanted to have something familiar and brainless on in the background. Wanted to watch Wayne's World and couldn't get a stream but Prime suggested Little Nicky. Jesus fucking Christ it hasn't aged well. I loved it when it came out because I was a 15 year old metalhead and I can see why I liked it at the time but now, I'm not so keen. Highlights are John Lovitz, Rodney Dangerfield's voice and the one second reference to Chris Farley at the end. And the soundtrack. The soundtrack is ace.

Rat Race was up next on suggesteds and in hindsight I probably should have binned Little Nicky off and watched this twice instead. Complete silliness from start to finish, knows exactly what it is and is good fun as a result. Also more John Lovitz being brilliant.
