This just simply isn't true at all is it?

It is true, WWE can throw shots whenever they like, no one bats an eyelid. But when it's the other way round or a response, you get the WCW jibes, you get all of the grifter podcasts going crazy, twitter and Facebook bots going mad.

Come on now, no one here is ‘loving them some Triple H’, or ‘shitting on Ospreay’. Suggesting that his dated jibe shouldn’t have made it to air is not unfair or ill-judged comment; and as tragic and awful as this situation is, the context doesn’t really change that. I suspect someone within AEW recognises this too - we’ve also had it ‘leak’ that Ospreay’s lines were fed to him.

Although I take the Observer with a pinch of salt given Meltzer’s spotty track record, if the context is that Ospreay was annoyed by the comment - which, it has to be said, may not have been directed at him - said he wanted to address it and was fed this line; he was badly advised. There is a better way of responding to something like this, that doesn’t involves wrestling promo. A carefully worded statement posted to social media would have been much more effective; though sometimes it’s just best to ignore these things.

Better to ignore it, but it's typical of the current process where WWE staff are able to take shots at AEW and no one critiques them, but when AEW do it, or respond, it ends up with "this is WCW 2000 levels!"

What did he even say about Ospreay? I missed it, but surprised he'd reference him directly.

He was giving out on McAfee's podcast about free agents not wanting to grind. Which is a bit rich, considering his best mate is Kevin Nash.

  6. For the people in here who were loving them some Triple H and taking a shit on Ospreay, maybe wait until you get a bit more information first before you start.

From the Observer - Will's partner wanted to stay in the UK with her family because she lost her first husband due to suicide, and this was something both WWE and AEW were aware of. Hence why Will felt it was a real dick move and he needed to address it.

I bigger issue at the start of the year was booking really small towns that would be lucky to get a WWE House show, let alone TV. When AEW do almost no local advertising. Those shows were never going to do well.

There's been a change on the booking and advertising shows today. They've announced all the PPV locations for the rest of the year. WrestleDream last year popped up with about 5 weeks notice last year.

Spot on, they've hired new people to do their live events and that's a big change. WWE are on a hot streak, just don't follow them round the country like the last guy who was booking the shows was doing.

What's the reach? I said I hear they're producing some good shows but the lack of buzz is backed up by all the metrics. They've really struggled and I think there are plenty of chickens over the last couple of years that are coming home to roost.

I don't know, I haven't watched it. But the point was that they put this majorly petty shit on TV at a point where critically, at least, some people like what they're doing. Seems ludicrous.

They've always been like WCW, and in a lot of ways that was a positive. The network, the production, the voices, the C shows and a lot of the booking gave that great pang of nostalgia. Sadly stuff like the bloated roster, the lack of control and the every growing content have given bad WCW vibes. WCW were around a long time, rode one great peak and fell and fell to their death. I don't see AEW going anywhere while Tony wants to spend his money but the peak and fall is very similar but massively sped up.

Their metrics are fine. Warners Bros are championing their ratings all the time. They are getting 100k+ PPV buys every month, on track to do 60k+ at Wembley. They've hired a new live events chap who will take over from someone who was booking shoes in the same cities, in massive buildings. Getting 3k-6 for weekly TV is great and 10k+ for PPVs is great too.

It was pretty petty, but if you watched the whole segment, it at least makes sense. Bucks twisting it and blaming FTR for it. FTR cutting a promo about how stupid they are for going on about it. It was fine. The news cycle moves quickly, people will have another thing to moan about soon anyway.

How exactly are they like sped up WCW? Nitro was great from 96-98, and then awful until 2001 when they shut their doors. AEW has been around for 5 years, almost the same amount of time as Nitro, and they doing good business, as I outlined above. WCW was putting out some of the worst wrestling TV ever produced in 2000, AEW had the continental classic 3 months ago and an all time great PPV last month. It's clearly not the same.

That clicked 2-3 years ago and they felt like the better alternative for a good while. They've completely lost their way with the content, content, content approach, abandoning loads of the things that made them different, signing horrible people who were on the scrapheap for a reason and turning their innovative, creative environment into a fucking shitshow.

I'm watching from afar these days but it's depressing to see the lack of buzz about the place, the lack of arses in seats and the terrible decisions being made out of desperation. Even when what I'm hearing is that they're on a run of solid enough shows, they can't help themselves but put this petty shit on TV.

They're like WCW in 5x fast forward. Sad.

This is a bit of a reach. The Continental Classic was back in December and they've been on a run of great shows since. The last PPV was excellent.

It's one shitty segment, about some backstage nonsense that was the talk of wrestling for the last week because Punk decided to go on about it again. No one mentioned it, he's tried to sanctify himself and they've released the footage on live TV.

That should be the end of the nonsense, Punk looks like a bully and a bit of a wimp because he couldn't take out Jack Perry. Perry gets to come back do his scapegoat stuff, which makes because he got suspended for getting attacked. And Samoa Joe looks like a bad ass.

When else have they done petty shit on TV? Or at least, promoted it?

And also, they are nothing like WCW, and if you feel they are, just watch some Nitro episodes from when they were 5 years in to that run. I bet you won't be thinking that then.

If I was Wembley I wouldn't be too thrilled with a company broadcasting CCTV of an assault on their property using their property backstage.

Chances are that AEW had their own camera crew backstage.

I'm abit of a dinosaur mate. Haven't got all the modern stuff that I would imagine I would need to watch it. Also I don't watch every ppv. Only the ones I think look good

Where do you normally watch the PPVs? On a laptop?

Unfortunately dynasty is looking good. I say unfortunately because it means I'm going to have to spend £15 on another ppv

If you go onto the triller website rather than the app, that 3 PPV deal goes to $49 rather than £49, so it works out to be £39 for 3 PPVs, which isn't too bad!

Sorry if I’m missing something but what lawyers are involved in the Punk/Hangman beef?

Punk mentioned on his interview that after Hangmans promo when he went off script, he went to Tony Khan and his own lawyers to get it fixed. Not sure what lawyers were supposed to do for it tbh!

Also said he was fighting the urge to double leg Hangman and "murder" him on live TV.

1 hour ago, Devon Malcolm said:

Being asked one question about it in 2 years and answering that question doesn't really qualify as "going on about it", does it.

I can't really give Punk the benefit of the doubt here, when he was going on live TV and calling out Hangman when he knew he wasn't in the building. Then he started throwing shots again about Hangmans action figures sales after he came back in August 2023. He's just doing the same thing again.

  14. One thing I find hilarious is that Punk had a scrap with Jack Perry but got the lawyers involved because Hangman said something about him. He should have tried to fight Hangman, would have been great to see how that went down, I imagine starting a fight with someone his own size isn't really in his nature.

Also, it's coming up to 2 years since Hangmans line that peeved him so much and he's still going on about it

When Sting's son came out in GAB 90 gear, I had a half a second freak out like I'd fallen asleep and 90s Sting turned up as he tends to do. Usually at The Range getting his shopping in. He looked so much like him Same arm position and stance. Its like he came out of WCW vs the World.

I thought it was good old Double J for a second

  16. DX Vs Kane and Undertaker in Saudi will never be topped. Absolutely incredible match. Taker and Triple H running into the barricade together, Kane's mask and wig coming off for some reason. No one catching Shawn's moonsault off the top to the outside.

    Outstanding.

Trying to come up with a finish, is it too Vince Russo to imagine Hangman losing on purpose, giving Joe the win, to spite Swerve?

I’m not talking Finger Poke of Doom or anything, but Joe catching Hangman in a choke, Hangman unable to escape, realising he’s fucked, and as he sees Swerve running in to make the save he decided he’d rather tap and lose to Joe than allow Swerve the opportunity to still win. Maybe flip him off as he does it. Bastard broke into his house, after all!

I might have wrote it on this forum, but is there a way to use the Summerslam 97 finish for this? Hangman swings for Swerve, lays out Joe. Swerve gets rid of Hangman and gets the win while Hangman tries to break up the pin but is just too late. Him and Swerve lock eyes as the ref counts to 3. Swerve wins.

Topuria at the Real Madrid vs Sevilla game just now.

Feels like something special is happening with Topuria. He’s only just became champion and it already feels like he’s well on his way to be the biggest European star the UFC’s ever had behind Conor McGregor. If he keeps winning who knows how big this can get?

He was on the front page of Marca the day after he won the title as well, which is crazy considering it's the biggest newspaper in Spain.

I wasn't a huge fan of his McGregor call out but, they could probably sell out the Bernabeu if that fight was the main event

  19. Could they redo the Summerslam 97 finish with Hangman going for Swerve with a chair, clocking Joe, with Swerve then throwing Hangman out of the ring and pinning Joe for the 3. Hangman inadvertently gives Swerve the title and he becomes more unhinged.

  20. WON: With 67% revenue growth in a year, AEW internally has been cited so far ahead as an overall business from where they were at the start of 2023 and that the year overall has to be called a massive success, particularly the second half of 2023.

From an actual profit situation, 2024 in theory would be in line to perform better than 2023.

This might shut up all of the grifters for a while, but I doubt it will.

Kevin Kelly was atrocious once again - describing CJ Perry as ‘a woman from Miro’s past’, rather than his wife; claiming Christian was jealous of Darby because he’ll never be as loved as him and other terrible calls. I’d switch him out for Jim Ross any day.

What about his orgasm when Bryan mentioned Zack Sabre Jr?
