That said, you can't expect everyone to draw the line in the same place, so there will always be disagreements. If this was a pro-fox hunting protest, I'd probably be complaining about them being irresponsible. And, of course, if there is a Covid risk than it's not just those in attendance that are being put directly at risk. So it's always going to be a messy situation.

This. In no way, shape or form disagree with the right to protest and am concerned about whatever bullshit legislation the government will try to put through to stop people's rights regarding these kind of issues. However allowing one thing and not the other isn't fair as we all have different feelings on different matters.

Yeah, tbh I thought the same thing last year during the BLM protests and was quite conflicted as the cause is clearly very important.

But that said, the newer research has shown that it's something like 20 times less likely to be transmitted when congregating outdoors compared to indoors, with the same proximity. So with appropriate measures I'm a lot more comfortable with the idea of it than I was in the past.

Irrespective of transmission rates outdoors, it sets a dangerous precedent to start allowing these kinds of things whilst in the midst of Covid. We've all missed out on things during the pandemic that we can all justify would be okay to do. What makes a vigil any more important? And I say this as someone who is on board with the right to protest and to hold memorials. But when so many people have given up so much, including time with loved ones they'll never get back, I cannot get on board with it.

Had the official planned one gone ahead, it would have gone ahead with marshalling and social distancing measures being in place and enforced. Ironically it got cancelled because it didn’t fall under the banner of a protest, there is an exclusion clause for legitimate protests in lockdown because they’ll be socially distant and regulated.

Whether there are clauses in place or not, its still fairly irresponsible for people to gather in large numbers when we are in the midst of a pandemic, despite the cause. I understand there would have been things in place but that still doesn't sit right with me.

I’m in agreement, but the framing of the Glasgow one is how it was all smiles and selfies with no arrests and that isn’t the case. There were something like five or six times the arrests made in Glasgow than Clapham. I’m sure the numbers attending were equally larger but arrests were made and it’s been presented inaccurately.
Make no mistake, the violent scenes last night are the fault of the police and those who banned the initial vigil.

Ahhhh well I've learned something today then.

And whilst I understand the cause and why people wanted to attend the vigil, I feel it's wrong to do so in the current climate. However the situation was handled about as badly as it could have been when the police turned up.

I’m seeing this comparison a lot and it’s not a valid one. There were multiple arrests made in Glasgow that people seem to be ignoring. Plus one was a celebration and one was a vigil, and it’s a different police force. Saying that I know which gathering had more chance of turning nasty.

Variables are different but it's still a mass gathering so naturally people will compare the two. And people will view it as the police clamping down on a softer target rather than treating both the same.

  6. Awful scenes at Clapham Common. Pretty silly of people to turn up en masse for a vigil in Covid stricken times with the volume of absurdity turned up to 11 when the boys in blue turn up. What makes it worse is that we saw Rangers fans ran amok in Glasgow last week with little police intervention so people will feel rightly frustrated with yesterday's events.

  7. I've had to have the dreaded Covid test this morning. Woke up coughing and shoulder blades felt burning. Overall I don't feel mega awful but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've had the standard bout of sniffles over the last 12 months and been happy to soldier on but just feel odd today. I don't know if I have a lack of taste but my throat feels like its coated in film if that makes any sense. Is this a thing?

The worst part is feeling guilty about work as I am classed as a key worker and don't like taking time off. I feel terrible letting the side down but my manager was reassuring earlier. The only solace I can take at the moment is the naps and catching up on chores and TV I've been able to do so far. Well hoping for a negative result!!

It’s a guy from Airdie who started off the trend on TikTok.

Being a grumpy, coming up for middle aged man, what's the big selling point of Tik Tok? Is it just bellends lip synching things and it's supposed to be funny? Or is there more to it than that?

Is it allowed does anyone know, or should I not risk it?

As long as you're not stopping off at every shop inbetween yours and there I don't see the issue. Personally I'd risk it.

  10. I'm not a fan of repeat finishers being users being used to death in wrestling (I'm looking at you NXT), but The Rock beating CM Punk at Royal Rumble 2013 with a spinebuster followed by a quick People's Elbow felt a bit of an anticlimactic way to end such a long reign.

  11. Absolutely horrible news and there's not much I can add that's not already been said. He's easily one of my favourite modern day hosses and had that proper old school vibe of a wrestler that could fuck you despite him being a legit nice guy who seems popular with everyone he worked with. A massive loss to wrestling and the world too. Plus Swamp Gas is one of the greatest themes ever. I'll miss you big guy.

How mad are Sheff Utd this season? I know they massively over performed last season but the little I’ve seen of them this year they’ve not even been that bad, just incapable of getting anything from a game. They certainly don’t seem as bad as the dog shit Derby and Sunderland teams that have plagued the league but the table says different. Probably shouldn’t have signed that awful Bournemouth goalie.

Yeah they definitely overperformed last year for sure and haven't massively dropped in terms of performance so far. They grinded out results last term and haven't been panned very often this season. They've certainly missed O'Connell this term and the likes of McGoldrick, McBurnie and Sharp aren't exactly Premier League quality. I think its unfair to say Ramsdale is awful. He's certainly a downgrade from Henderson but he's not dreadful. Part of me thinks they can go on a mini run of wins at some point but it looks as relegation is inevitable.

A 180 surely as otherwise you'd have gone back to Tory.

I blame these lockdown baked bean beers I've been having. You're bang on though!

  14. Okay friends and kind folk. I want to know what opinions of yours that have gone full 360 throughout your life. Have you gone from Tory to Labour? Vice versa? Have you finally realised the greatness of dark chocolate? What are your put your hands up moments in life?

    1) Baked beans. I used to hate them. With a passion. But an ex partner's mum made home made hunters chicken and chips with baked beans. As a guy trying to impress the parents I had to take the plunge. And the plunge I took. Boom! And guess what? Baked beans are pretty fucking good! They're now my first choice side if I get a KFC and taste even better with a splash of Worcester sauce. I'm sorry beans for ever doubting you.

    2) Jack Whitehall. Okay. He's probably still a knob. But I'm currently watching Fresh Meat and I think he's great in it. I'm fully aware he's probably just playing an extended version of himself, but JP has given me a few good belly laughs I no longer dislike the guy.

    3) Coffee. Because as a kid it's shit. Then somewhere down the line it's good.

So what are your drastic opinion changes? What have you hated then liked? Or vice versa?

  15. Regarding those Maryland cookies, is there anything other than ice cream that has a nice cookies and cream flavour? It's usually pretty rank.

My local Morrisons has these bad boys on offer at the moment...
