Has anybody ever gone to Brutal Assault? I have the sum total of fuck all lined up for next year. Me and Download have broken up for good and BA seems to get rave reviews by everyone who has gone. Cheap as chips, my favourite size for a festival and all the spooky Norwegian bollocks does it for me.

I've been but I think it was 12 years ago, so it might have changed some what. I loved it though. It was easy to get to - a short walk from train station IIRC, good size, everything was cheaper, all very well organised, great view of main stage wherever you stand. There was a great inside movie area that played (some really niche) horror films all day, which was good to get away from the heat sometimes. Only thing that might be a problem for some is the camping was in a public park when I went - just  outside the festival area, we had no issues or problems with it, and didn't hear anyone else who did either. It was just a bit strange.

  2. Has anyone got one of those RetroN 5 HD consoles. They play several different cartridges including Megadrive and SNES but into HD TVs. Currently debating whether to splash out on one or just get an original SNES.

I have my Wii modded to play all the games but fancy collecting some boxed SNES games.

I took a very brief break from wrestling after Speaking Out, but I really do want to get some enjoyment out of it again so I decided to give Fyter Fest a try.

I didn’t enjoy it much, but I can fully acknowledge that it may be down to how I’m feeling about the sport right now.

The one thing I would say is that as a fan who started watching as far back as 2002, I had no idea what the FTW title was, let alone whether or not it was as iconic as Taz implied.

Is it unfair to consider this Tony Khan placing more weight on something simply because he had fond memories of it when he was younger?

I don’t really understand what it is supposed to represent in this situation.

You'd have to have seen ECW from the late nineties to know about the FTW belt.  It was kinda cool at the time and Taz 'invented' it because Shane Douglas couldn't/wouldn't defend the actual ECW World Title versus him at the time.  So it fits storyline was with what AEW are doing.

So when are people going to start posting old footage of their home made Jackass stunts they filmed?

Don't pretend you and your mates didn’t do it when you weren’t backyard wrestling.

Me and my friends borrowed a video camera and made ours. I have a VHS copy of it in my loft somewhere.  It's only funny/embarrassing to us really.  We called ours 'Tosservision'. which I still find a little amusing.

Bundy: A Legacy of Evil (2008)

I paid 10p for this from a charity shop (sealed) and if I still had the receipt would go and get my money back.  An appalling excuse for a movie, with the blurb on the cover of the DVD sleeve claiming "one of the best serial killer films to date".  That hideous lie came courtesy of something called GoreZone magazine and I'm now doubtful such a magazine even exists. Thirty minutes was all I managed of this before switching it off.  The film looks like something you would find on Five USA at one in the morning and contains some of the worst acting I've seen in a long time.  Corin Nemec plays Ted Bundy whose attempts at menacing and terrifying are laughable.  What is equally laughable is when we get the high school scenes of Bundy meeting Stephanie.  We don't get a younger actor playing the high school Bundy, no 37 year old Nemec, and this isn't a young 37 year old looking man.  Jen Nikolaisen, who plays Stephanie, is very easy on the eye but that's the only remotely positive thing I can take this.  Don't waste your time.  Shite.

On the subject of if GoreZone magazine ever existed, I learnt something new at this year's Frightfest from someone that runs a pop culture site.  He noticed a quote and 5 star score on a movie poster and told me that the website was run by the same people that were releasing the film.  So they basically just write great reviews for the films they release so they have cover quotes.

To make this post a bit more interesting I watched Bad Times at El Royale the other day and thought it was pretty great.  Surprisingly violent.

I only see about 300 titles on Amazon Prime for Shudder and many of those are on Netflix and even YouTube. If that's their full selection then that's shite.

Shudder has some really cool exclusives. I recommend the podcast series Video Palace and the interview/filmmaking series The Core

  7. I re-watched Us before the end of the year and loved it just as much second time. The score is fantastic and Lyputa Nyong'o's performance is the best I saw all year.

Also watched Greta on New Year's Eve which is not exactly horror but directed by Neil Jordan (Interview With The Vampire). It's decent and involves one brilliantly gory moment.

Picked up Cult of Chucky in tne HMV sale which is the only Chucky film I'm yet to see.

Crystal Lake Memories was very good, I have to say. Really impressed by the breadth of interviewees they got. Nothing groundbreaking, just a really good collection of anecdotes and they weren't mean about Jason Takes Manhattan (the best Friday), so I went away happy.

I am glad someone else likes Manhattan, not watched in a while but it's always been my favourite Friday 13th

I just saw Black Christmas too and thought it was absolutely horrendous, whatever its certficate was supposed to be. Appropriating 'woke' subject matter for a shitty slasher film but forgetting to be good at either.

    There was one good bit:-

      Reveal hidden contents

That was the murder that I'm sure was inspired by this scene from The Exorcist III.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH8ynu0jRvY

    Otherwise, no.

I've  never seen the movie above so didn't know the influence there but that scene in Black Christmas was definitely it's best moment, I loved it.

By rated R thing do you mean it's PG13? Which is my understanding.

Edit - I don't know much about it. That's what I read ages ago.

To my surprise I've read some positive reviews as well as yours today. Was gonna see it anyway but now I'm at least not dreading it.

Yeah, so they basically came out recently and said they are editing it to be PG13 because they believe the message should be seen by teenage girls (or something to that effect).  It's a 15 in the UK anyway and I would take a guess that even the unedited version would have been 15 here too.

  11. I went to see the new Black Christmas last night and seemingly enjoyed it more than most.

The rated R thing only effected it in that it's badly edited at times because of it - one scene in particular. But I thought the cast were good, there was some decent deaths and it felt very relevant.

There's part of the story which I'm not sure worked (it's a spoiler if I mention it) but I think on repeat viewings it might improve. It's a fun horror movie despite the topic, rather than a great one.

Yeah it's Rick with one hand lopped off in the book which they kept teasing on the show as a wink but it was pretty obvious they were not ever going to do it.

Unrelated but yesterday I started watching The Exorcist TV show on Amazon Prime and I'm really digging it. I'm only 4 eps in mind you. It got me thinking there must have been a whole slew of Exorcist rip offs after that was a major hit in the 70s.

Any recommendations? For the life of me I can't recall seeing any bar the actual sequels and (excluding 3) they are shite.

The Exorcist TV show gets really good with season 2.

As I run my own horror blog I should probably get more involved in this thread!  I started my Christmas horror watching yesterday with Silent Night which is pretty good, mainly because of the death scenes.  Anyone got any favourite Christmas horror movies.  I'll be checking out Anna and the Apocalypse this week.

"But the house had it's own dark, sordid history and wasn't easy to renovate" has me expecting 90 minutes of punk trying to resolve a raising damp problem and flood damaged  RSJ's.

I've seen the movie and honestly a good chunk of it is Punk doing DIY. I really enjoyed it though, Punk does his best Henry Rollins/Bruce Campbell impression and is pretty enjoyable.

  14. I'm the one who voted for Crank 2 so I might as well put my case forward. I obviously like the first but the sequel just does everything better, it's the perfect sequel. The other characters are great, there's cameos from Chester Bennington & Maynard James Keenan, music by Mike Patton and that amazing fight scene when they turn into giants.

  15. IIRC Stone Cold was the first guy to have his arms released in the Pedigree. I remember as a teenager complaining becauseit didn't look as good.

Looking back I assume it was cos of Austin's neck injuries?

Just finished the final episode of Fleabag. I'll be honest, I cried. Phoebe Waller Bridge is so bloody talented, she's well on her way to becoming a bona fide great in television. I only recently found out she's the creator and writer of Killing Eve too, which is on my list of things to watch. Thank fuck she didn't become the new Dr Who.

Killing Eve is fantastic. My favourite show last year. Plenty of time to watch before season 2 because even though it's started in America we're not getting it til end of May at the earliest

The Night Eats the World, The Cured and The Girl With All the Gifts are three recent zombie films that have all been really good too, but all with a slightly different take on the genre. There's been some life (pun intended) in zombie films lately but it won't last.

You can add One Cut of the Dead to that list. Fantastic and original take on the zombie genre.

  19. Does anyone on here go regularly to Arsenal home games or has been in the past?  In particular, mid-week games.

My girlfriend got me a ticket for Christmas to the Cardiff game at the end of the month and I need some advice on going from either Waterloo or Victoria to the stadium.  Things like how much longer is it likely to take than normal before and after the game.

  20. I've never liked Nick Gage, even when I was really into Deathmatch wrestling.  He just wasn't very entertaining and didn't seem to give his opponents anything or take half as much punishment as them.  I mean, it's clever and good for him but I've seen some clips of the Arquette match and the Diamond Cutter spot is the perfect example, Arquette takes the brunt of it.

The Taking of Deborah Logan is REALLY good, especially for a found footage horror film. Nothing new but executed extremely well with a really brilliant and subtle ending shot. Good fun.

Nobody asked but my top five found footage horror film ranking would be:-

    1. [REC]
    2. Trollhunter
    3. [REC]2
    4. The Taking of Deborah Logan
    5. Man Bites Dog

Honourable mentions for Cloverfield, Lake Mungo and Chernobyl Diaries.

    Worst five:-

    1. Exists
    2. The Dyatlov Pass Incident
    3. Paranormal Activity
    4. The Bay
    5. The Last Broadcast

Dishonourable mentions to Creep, Cannibal Holocaust and Diary of the Dead.

How come you disliked Exists so much? I would have it in my top 5.  Recently watched Found Footage 3D and that was really good. I enjoyed all the V/H/S films to and of course The Blair Witch Project.

Who would actually want to go to Villa in their current predicament?

They have potential money from the new investors, but they're not only constrained by FFP, but constrained by the fact the Chinese Doctor has placed Villa on the precipice of FFP penalties already.

For instance, this year's parachute payment they received, Xia had already taken loans out against that income and spent it. Added to this that Brucey will be taking a healthy sum for being let go, Villa are not looking good. With the rule changes to stop club's doing a 'Bournemouth' and having to show accounts mid season, a points deduction certainly looks on the horizon and transfer embargoes too.

Why would any manager be looking at that predicament and rubbing their hands together. Villa need a good few years of spending nothing to be able to spend big to get up. Or they'll face sanction after sanction.

They should go for Warnock, he can get players in for little, get teams to scrap their way out the division, only years of spending nothing or getting out the EFL will allow Villa's new owners the ability to spend.

While I agree with most of that, they do have a really good squad.  One that could easily get play-offs this season without any new signings and despite a relatively poor start (they've only actually lost 2 league games this season).
