Was a joke to be honest, like most things on here. Thanks for answering though.

I don't think I am making a direct comparison to be honest and sure it was Artetas first job, but Ange has never managed at this level before. I suppose you could also look at Klopps first season at Liverpool as well, which wasn't an instant success.

Ange is definitely adaptable (I think more than people realise) as we've seen in quite recent games, although I'd like him to be more flexible with his decisions earlier on.

Put it this way, I'd rather not lose 4-0 to Newcastle or 3-0 to Fulham, but I'm not worried as I've seen enough to not panic. I'd be tempted to "allow" him next season as well, but this is modern life, that just won't happen for a lot of people.

Like I say, a sea change doesn't happen overnight. It didn't for Arsenal, and it didn't for Liverpool.

All fair points. Tbh I'm probably just a bit salty about the loss today. Not a tremendous afternoon for the parish.

Bit unnecessary mate. I like debating football on here as there's often a good discussion to be had, so wanted to ask a question and had some points. Maybe I shouldn't bother anymore?

You literally just said in response to lighthearted dig not even directed at you:

Also I do love that you've just lost a massive game and your first thought is mentioning Spurs 😆 Just a mental fan base.

So I'm not sure that seems to be something that feels like the start of a reasonable, good faith debate, in fairness.

But sure, in answer to your original questions, there's a certain degree of similarity. However, that was also Arteta's first ever managerial job, which is not the case for Postecoglou, so not sure you can make a direct comparison. In terms of the project, yes Arteta had some rough seasons and it was a growth period and you're probably right in terms of there needing to be patience which I'm sure will be needed for Postecoglou in to have a chance at having his project work out. I don't personally think he is tactically adaptable enough to warrant the time required for such a project and I'm not sure what his ceiling is, from what I've seen just due to a lack of a "plan B", but I've probably not watched enough Spurs games to give a full analysis.

How many times in Artetas first couple of seasons did Arsenal lose quite badly and how long did it take for Arsenal to bed in what they are now doing? This is now his 5th season right? Two 8th placed finishes in a row right?

Yes, and we were roundly mocked by Spurs fans, including yourself on here, so turnabout is fair play, no?

In all honesty, it was a throwaway comment to make myself better. Writing a big paragraph in response is probably more telling.

EDIT: Also very happy to see Xhaka getting a title win. A nice thing on a less than great day in football terms.

Well at least @Gooner doesn't have to worry about Spurs chucking any games now.

Surely by that logic he'd be even more worried? As we really would need Spurs to do us a favour now?

In reality, you can't drop points in games like that if you want to win the league. Same for Liverpool as ourselves. City will undoubtedly go on and win all their games now, which means you have to be perfect at the point in the season to keep up with the machine that is City. Ah well. was fun while it lasted, City might as well get the parade route planned now.

Still beats getting pumped by Newcastle because "aww shucks we just want to play football, mate", so I'll take it.

Plus, if you’re going to put on TWO “movie” matches on one event (Firefly/Boneyard) then it makes sense to do them on separate broadcasts. No, they weren’t the first matches in company history to have been filmed this way. I think you’d have to go back to the first Boiler Room Brawl, then Halftime Heat and the Dungeon match. But these with the most overt “Yeah, we made this, you are not watching live” matches since that rubbish where Orton was inside Wyatt’s wanking shed and it kept cutting to angles where we saw no camera man a second earlier. Whether you like that kind of jazz or not (I’m on the fence) it would have been overkill to do both on the same show. A year later with reduced capacity, it made further sense to sell two nights’ worth of tickets, assuming the revenue would offset the cost of renting the stadium for two nights. When they saw how quickly those sold, I imagine the penny dropped quite quickly of “Christ, why have we been doing this for years?”

Hollywood Backlot Brawl at Mania 12 surely is the first one?

Undertaker, yeah. I did some mental gymnastics on a previous page as to why it made sense, and others have explained it away by Undertaker getting one over on the people who caused his only Wrestlemania losses, but I accept that it was The Undertaker probably only because Austin couldn't do it for whatever reason.

I saw someone on Twitter saying that it was simply that Taker was often (when it suited, so not when he was being a heel) presented as "the conscience" of the WWF/WWE so was helping to even the odds.

In a wider sense, I assume it was to present the "40 years of WrestleMania" in a match without saying they are and with the legends that can still physically participate.

Mania used to be 4/5 hours, for years. But now they’ve seen what a cash cow it is, 2 nights are here to stay.

The last one night Mania (35) clocked in at over 7.5 hours including the pre-show. Yes it's a cash cow, but there was also a lot of negative attention on the runtime and the logistical issues it caused for people getting home etc, so I think boiling it down to one snarky remark is a bit reductive. New Japan did a two-night Wrestle Kingdom the very same year, in January, prior to the first two-night Mania.

I saw some people suggesting that a screen flicker during Bronson Reed’s promo was an Uncle Howdy teaser. I can’t even say I noticed it the first time. Is that people on the internet reaching or did I just miss something fairly blatant because it was the early hours of the morning?

It might be a reach, but then according to Twitter they also played some weird music and di some stuff with the lights just for the live crowd that was very similar to what they did for Bray's return in 2022, so it's possible it could be something.

Does Mox care though? I mean, if he truly cared about The Shield, he'd have stuck around. No doubt the reunion would feed families but I'm not convinced Mox cares. He enjoys his freedom unless it was a literal one night only.

I think I've written enough about Ambrose/Moxley in multiple threads lately. It was more about a very general "how things are done" from a creative sense that made him check out, on top of his voice not being heard when he pushed back or got made to do/say things he thought were stupid. He'd already decided to leave before The Shield split up, he didn't change his mind when they were reformed the final time. Draw your own conclusions.

@SuperBaconMox is very much enjoying his life, most Wednesdays and Saturdays and some random days inbetween. I don’t think WWE could pay him enough to return because he values his freedom to much.

Lads, I'm more convinced than ever that everyone goes back eventually. It's inevitable. Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but at some stage. He'll be back.

In a more serious sense, I would say that if he were to consider it, and a big "if" there Mox would potentially have more freedom in WWE at this stage, and I'm sure a part-time, sweetheart deal with an option to do GCW and the like (as witnessed by WWE talent working on their recent show) wouldn't be out of the question down the road, especially in a post-Vince WWE. Never say never.

Plus The Islanders were Haku & Tama (Sam Fatu). There's storyline kinship between the families dating back to the Coliseum Video days.

Yeah I was thinking that, which made me think a quick reference to their fathers/uncles having fought together is probably enough to bridge the gap and make it all fit together.

As for the possibility of Tama Tonga in the Bloodline, I hope they don't go in that direction. He's not part of the family, even in the tenuous way that The Rock is, and I think that dilutes the selling point of that stable, and is a bit "well, Tongan, Samoan, all the same, innit?".

Given The Rock has been very vocal in the past about seeing Haku (he'll always be Meng to me) as an uncle even if they aren't technically "related" I'm not sure it's that hard a sell in all honesty without it drifting into that mire of casual xenophobia. A quick line in a promo to say "our fathers bled together, so he's bloodline" or something better but along those lines, effectively papers over that crack pretty easily.

Personally, I'd like to see what Tama can do on his own first, because I think he's a pretty good performer on his own merits, but if they must bring in fresh recruits for The Bloodline while Reigns is off, there are easy ways to connect the dots.

Is that bloody QT Marshall at the back? What a worker that man is.

He's Cody's business partner in the training school isn't he? Imagine they're close mates too, so not shocked he was there.

Do I have to say every time something is slightly tongue in cheek?

If you've not made it clear that what you've said is "tongue in cheek", then yes probably you do, unfortunately.

  14. With ay luck, Beefer's DSOTR will include him trying to do a Gazza/Raul Moat on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford after the crack-smoking scandal in 2013. From his Wikipedia (so admittedly grain of salt and all that):

"On November 7, 2013, Leslie appeared at Toronto City Hall with a pair of shears and a submarine sandwich, claiming mayor Rob Ford "needed an intervention" in the wake of a high-profile crack cocaine scandal. Leslie offered to be Ford's "angel of mercy", saying "Maybe if he gets his body right, he will be able to get his mind right". Security escorted him from the property when it became apparent that Leslie was attempting to promote a brand of submarine sandwiches. The day before, fellow wrestler The Iron Sheik also tried to visit Ford, and challenge him to an arm-wrestling match."

AJ Styles slowly morphing into Randy Savage playing Bone Saw in Spider-man. The size of him! Can only assume TKO tasked The Rock with writing up the new (non-existent) wellness policy.
