  1. I've got a bit of a blind spot when it comes to J.R. I can't disagree with any of the comments above really, but as I admire his work so much, I generally listen to his podcast most weeks. Whereas because I only enjoyed Jericho's work in WCW really, he doesn't get a free pass and generally does my nut in.

  2.

I remember Nash saying the Holly thing never happened and if he'd have squared up to him he'd have had his bag shit in that very night, because Holly was a "job guy". Nash is probably a crippled mess now (he tells a story of having to wake up an hour before he actually gets out of bed because the pain he's in on a morning is so bad), but in 1995 Nash was pretty frightening I imagine. He had a bit of a reputation as the Kliq's hardman. Although, Bob Holly did have a only punches allowed fight with Bart Gunn and didnt get dropped. And Bart knocked everyone out.

I always for the impression with Nash with his size and being an ex-bouncer he must off been atleast fairly hard. But putting yourself in his boots he can't afford to lose a fight to someone Hollys size it would be credibility destroying.
Funnily enough I watched that Big Sexy shoot a few weeks ago. But Nash said something along the lines of "we'd have got him fired right away" which I thought was a bit shitty.

I love Nash and Hall but can easily imagine someone like Waltman being a pain in the arse for lower card guys back then, knowing he had the entire Kliq as back-up.

  3.  Everything across the entire spectrum is toned down (no pun) so much now. Promos, storylines, flamboyancy, charisma, crowds, physiques, characters... you name it, the dial has been turned right down.

It infuriates me so much that if all of us can see this, why can't those in power see it too. And if they can, why are they allowing it to happen? Bloody hell, everyone being off steroids is one thing but the repetitive and droning TV shows are surely factors that can be addressed.

I was also wondering to myself last night, has Wrestlemania become so big that its detrimental to the overall product? I know its an odd thing to say when its a cash cow that can fill almost six figure numbers inside massive stadiums, but it just strenghthens the viewpoint a lot of people have on here that the WWE is only worth watching between January and April.

When I grew up Wrestlemania was the biggest show of the year, but it didn't dwarf everything else (Summerslam etc)  to the extent that they came over as second rate. Now, that is certainly the case.

  4. I really liked the first one with Piper, Orndorff and Okerlund but have only watched the ones with Sting, DDP and Vader and Alundra Blayze, Ivory and Molly Holly because I have no real interest in the modern day wrestlers tbh. I do feel that the standard went downhill with every one I saw though.

  5. During his WWF run, I just remember thinking of Benoit as a poor man's Kurt Angle really.

I wouldn't rate Benoit as a better wrestler than Angle, but neither did he have the charisma and ability to entertain.

To be fair, I was never a big fan of the Eddy Guerrero world title run either (me being the product of a "this is a big man's territorry brother" mentality I suppose), but at least I could acknowledge he was a better overall package.

  6. I think the product became more popular again when Raw started going out in the 10pm slot on Friday nights. People seemed to be taking notice of it again. On Sky between 93-96 it was all just hightlight shows on at teatime.

I remember being mindblown by the new Raw set in March 1997 and expanding to two hours.

  7. Haha, I've lost count over the number of threads along the lines of "All my mates stopped watching in 1993 and I had no-one at school to swap tapes with".

I was so gutted having finally got Sky at home in Spring of that year, that by the Survivor Series I was the only sad git who was still talking about the WWF.

  8. Adam Bomb should have been up there with Razor and Diesal in that era. Him and Bam Bam Bigelow are the two biggest misses from the WWF.

The UWF from the early 90s on Daily Motion are great!

I'd put Crush ahead of Adam Bomb but know where you're coming from.

Crush was going places until he was turned heel in late '93, daft move.

  9. Where was the actual site of wrestlemania 9? I've just got back from Vegas and was trying to work it out. I know it was on the grounds of Caesars palace hotel. There was a bit of a make shift arena at the front beside the strip which had 2 tiered sections on either side of it but not sure if it looked big enough (although tv can be deceiving),

Ha, I did exactly the same the first time I went to Vegas three years ago. I think they built the arena where Rod Stewart, Celine Dion etc play now, on top of part of the car park.

  10.

Stolen from Football365 mailbox. Found it amusing.

Chelsea – Hulk Hogan, big name in the business, but his reputation is in tatters.

I'm not having that. Chelsea were nowhere near being a big club until the late 90's when Ken Bates started splashing the cash on foreigers and Abramovich took it to another level.

  11. I just want Eric to be part of the family. Watching the old roundtables, I'm always upset he went to TNA when he did. Always a worthy contributor as a talking head. Lots of their productions would have been better with Eric's input. But then, I want everyone to come home. Kurt, for instance.

See, I'm the exact opposite. First thing I thought afterwards was how I'd love to see him join Global Force or something and stick it to Vince again (like that will ever happen I know).
