Weirdly, Alex sounds like he's repeating something he's been practicing and can't actually speak German.

I'm not totally convinced Davey Boy can speak English either.

“I can do every style, that’s why they call me the British Bulldog.”

    How bizarre.

  2. I’ve never been able to figure out what it is about Benoit that appeals to a weird subsection of wrestling fans who are happy to ignore or justify his crimes on the basis that he was a “great wrestler”.

I’ve been amazed at the number of FB and Twitter posts marking his recent birthday like its something to be celebrated, rather than binning him off to the dustbin of history where the cunt belongs.

Now, despite having watched wrestling for most of my life, I suppose I’m still pretty casual in nature in that the technical aspect has never really done anything for me and that its always been about the characters and other bells and whistles.

As a result (and I’m aware of my own bias) I always found him to have the personality of a lampshade and couldn’t talk for shit, so was never more than a midcarder never mind how many diving headbutts he wanted to do.

But even if you do care more about the in-ring stuff and happy to overlook his obvious short (arm) comings, killing your wife and kid can be overlooked?!

Is it because he was mates with Eddie Guerrero, who has also been been put on a pedastle (slightly over the top imo) since his death?

I know we all overlook certain things due to the nature of this scummy business we’ve followed, but I find it bonkers and totally infuriating.

Its really pissed me off today.

  3. I know most on here pay for Fite TV and have seen it several days before, but I happened to catch Dynamite last night as it was on after a Welsh political programme that's on ITV 1 Wales after the late news.

Having a show on ITV4 is one thing. But while I never hear anyone talk about this, surely having an (albeit graveyard) slot on ITV1 is the most exposure any American wrestling show has had over here since Sunday Night Heat was cancelled by Channel 4?

I realise it starts at 11:40pm or so, but by virtue of being it being ITV 1, I still bet the viewing figures are remarkably high for a wrestling show.

Can't really comment in detail as I don't watch the show regularly and coming at this from a casual's angle, but I still 'don't get' Orange Cassidy and everything about Darby Allin gets on my tits.

That said, Jeff Jarrett is the fucking GOAT and Kenny Omega is looking like a million bucks atm (he should be the top guy imo). Amen to loving Schiavone on commentary too.

I'll bet the graphical "shortcomings" won't be anywhere near as bad on the screen of a Switch Lite. I just hopes it plays ok. I'll keep an eye out for a sale. I hear the Impact game suffered similarly from using a completely different playstyle to the WWE games of the time. Just have to wait and see, I guess. If it has Sting I should pick it up, really.

I thought it was a much better game, both play and graphics wise, than anything the WWE was pumping out at the time. The graphics don't look half bad even today.

FPTP is also always going to favour the "side" with the most unity. Labour, Greens, et al all broadly carry policies I support, but any one of those parties is going to carry a smaller percentage of that non-Tory vote. "Government" and "not the Government" is reductive, but that is essentially the position our system has put us in, and will always favour the incumbent majority gaining the highest percentage of a dwindling disenfranchised electorate.

The worst part of fptp for me is the pressure to vote tactically, which makes smaller parties look weaker than they should be, thus solidifying the two party status quo.

There’s also issues with the bigger party (usually Labour), pleading on supporters of smaller parties to ‘lend’ their votes to them.

There’s never a time when that vote is paid back though.

I’ve said it before but society was far better when having a shaved head was unacceptable unless you were Yul Brenner. Every bollocks I’ve worked with who thinks he’s king shit has a shaved head. They always see themselves as the top dog alpha male type. Guaranteed they wouldn’t be so high and mighty and full of misplaced self confidence if they had a receding hairline for all to see and had the piss ripped constantly about it. You’re bald by choice? Like shite you are.

I feel sorry for folk in the 1970s when longer hair was everything. Imagine clinging on to rapidly decreasing locks back then.

As someone who accepted my fate early on due to every bloke on my dad’s side being bald as can be, I’m just glad that having a shaved head is no big deal any more.

Was also slightly funny carrying on as usual with the old bic razor when others were losing their minds when the barbers were shut over lockdown.

Not going to lie though, footballers rushing to get hair transplants are terrible role models and that’s a hill I’ll happily die on.

  7. Must say that I've really enjoyed the past two weeks of episodes. They're building up well to Under Siege, which looks like a very solid card for an Impact + special (i.e part of the £5 a month Youtube package which includes the weekly eps).

PCO v Steve Maclin sounds great on paper doesn't it?

I think its partially the louder and fuller Chicago crowd, but I do like the number of under/midcard feuds which keeps most of the roster busy. Never thought that Trey Miguel had a heel character in him but he's really pulling it off.

Impact World Championship No DQ Match:
    Steve Maclin vs. PCO

    Impact Knockouts World Championship Match:
    Deonna Purrazzo vs. Jordynne Grace

    Impact X-Division Championship Match:
    Trey Miguel vs. Chris Sabin

Digital Media Championship Match: Dirty Dango v Joe Hendry

Six-Way Impact World Championship #1 Contenders Scramble Match:
Moose vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Jonathan Gresham vs. Yuya Uemura vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Alex Shelley

    Trinity vs. Gisele Shaw

    Nick Aldis vs. Kenny King

Sami Callihan, Rich Swann and TBA vs. The Design (Big Kon, Deaner, Alan Angels)

Does it? Why? Vince isn't going to move his PPVs because Tony's got a TV show on Saturday.

Fuck them, its Impact’s I care about.

We finally had a nice little eco system of Saturday night becoming the main PPV night only for the Fulham sniffer to ruin it all.

    (Nice Nitro logo though).

I'm quite looking forward to having wrestling to watch every Sunday morning, but it's a shame that it presumably brings an end to Saturday-night PPVs for AEW.

And every other company, the bastards.

I would love impact to come to South wales here, I would be first in line

Taking south Wales to impact by the looks of it.

Joe Hendry, Nick Aldis and now Subculture. UK tour anyone?

I think it happening in 2002 was a sign of things to come. The wheels had started coming off in 2001 but by 2002 it felt very much like "ok chaps we gave you 4 good years but times up, WWF is gone and it's time for Ruthless Aggression...you're going to fucking hate it".

Definately a fellow member of the “Ruthless aggression was a massive downgrade” club.

It just shocks me that its now 21 years since the WWF was must see tv for me.

I find the quiet Impact crowds quite jarring when I’ve watched recommended matches etc. so this reaction is lovely to see.

Yeah, you're exactly right. The sometimes (but not always) sparsely filled or poorly mic'd venues have been known to kill otherwise good segments that deserved better.

Cicero Stadium in Chicago is becoming a pretty loyal and perfectly sized stop for Impact, as is Windsor, Ontario.

Filming against the video wall when there was a perfectly good crowd in attendance just fed the "LOL Impact only gets 50 fans" narrative you see online, which has been an unfair criticism since the pandemic. So glad they've started to show the crowd again.

What does everyone think the chances are of a Bret Hart appearance at the AEW show in London? I'd love to see him back there for the sake of nostalgia.

Zero, he has a WWE legends contract. They'd bloody love to have him there though.

It shouldn't be a surprise given AEW has much better TV clearance than WWE in this country, including until very recently an 11pm Monday night slot on ITV 1. WWE is tucked away on BT sport, which isn't even the most popular pay sports channel, and lost its Channel 5 slots due to shit ratings.

But given it remained solid WWF country even when WCW was on top in the states, this will surely be a bit of an ego knock to the WWE and its loyalists? Can't imagine what WWE Gareth's twitter timeline is looking like.

Just hoping that Impact reads the UKFF and sets up a north Wales tour featuring stops at Ruabon and Llangefni Town Hall in order to meet its audience demand (which is basically @Butch2000 and me).

  14. Today marks 21 years since the WWF became WWE.

    wwefout.png?w=300&h=193

Biggest downgrade ever or what?! Going from a distinguished sounding federation' to 'we all know its bollocks don't we' entertainment marked a dark day in my house!

The only positive being that due to both UK boom periods happening before the change, it shall forever be known by our parents and commentators of proper sports at any sign of a fight as the WWF.

Not going to lie, 21 years on and WWE still sounds a bit awkward to me.

  15. Signings like Trinity always catch me out because I haven’t watched WWE in years and don’t really know who she is.

I watched the Mickie James Royal Rumble when she was Impact champion, so I must have seen her in that, but will have to bow to everyone else’s superior knowledge on if she’s any kind of star or how good she is!

  16. Probably rehabs Impact’s image more than Punk’s, given how vocal he was about previous regimes.

Whether you like the bloke or not, he and Monet do carry some clout.
