  1. Such was the the quality of the production, I found myself wondering how much Netflix spent on it, as it look like a lot.

Of course, the rooms the contestants and guards were sleeping in were supposed to look very basic - even then things such as the giant bunk beds were a great visual. Partly to heighten the grandness of the game sets and, importantly, the decadence of the VIPs and high ups.

  2. I watched it yesterday and had to finish it in the wee hours. It's felt like an age since I've done that for a telly show.

I thought the whole thing was beautifully paced and even though the reveals were so heavily telegraphed (001 being the games master or the cops brother being the guy in the black mask), I was still swept up in it. For example, I was pissing tears at 001 and his bloody marbles even though I'd sussed him out well before then - what a great bit of telly and an awful experience.

I'll need to watch it again because it's clear very dense in references and Easter eggs. Also, very clearly tips it's hat to Kubrick a number of times in the set designs. For example, the VIP episode had some nice nods to Eyes Wide Shut - the bridge being heavy with Christmas tree lighting which was all over that film.

The VIP themselves were OTT but the fat one that was after a gammy was suitably fat and grotesque.

Apparently it's been an overwhelming success and I can't wait to see what they do for the next one.

  3. Like Stephen A, he's probably just trying to get some controversy going so they can spend forever talking about it on ESPN etc. It's garbage but it keeps him in the job. Teddy Atlas is the only one there worth a listen.

Fury was saying after the fight he's had a nightmare of a training camp but wouldn't go into detail. Only discussing he's not seen his family much in 6 months and has another kid on the way.

I had the American commentry.. They were trying to claim it was all even around the 9th round. When Fury was all over a badly gassed and hurt Wilder. Studio pundit Max Kellerman was saying the stoppage was dodgy and it was a moral victory for Wilder at the end. Whatever was going on BT Sport it can't have been that bad.

They also tried their hardest to claim Wilder broke his hand when it became clear it was a matter of time.

My read of the first round was Fury was partly seeing what Wilder had and also letting him use up the gas tank, as Wilder was always going to come out guns blazing. Wilder then round-to-round was swinging and missing and very quickly blowing out his arse. The 3rd and 4th rounds are about as dramatic as a sport can get. Similar to the first fight, Fury got a bit complacent and walked into a right. Also, similar to the first fight, Fury seemed to level up after getting battered and dismantled Wilder. The more the fight went on the more Wilder went back to his old habits.

A bit rubbish Wilder acted like a fanny after the fight. Can't wait to see what excuses he has this time. Pleasing that Fury did get an emphatic stoppage for that reason alone.

  5. They probably realised they've got no chance in hell of undoing all the bad habits Wilder has so they're just trying their hardest to cancel out the physicality, as Fury did a masterful job using his height and weight in the 2nd fight.

Wouldn't surprise me if Fury gets clipped and stopped. Not only because Fury v AJ is officially cursed, but the law of averages and all that. I certainly don't expect it to go as smoothly as the 2nd fight. If Fury is going to try and get Wilder backing up again, you wonder if Wilder has made any adjustments to help stop it, rather than just coming out like a tornado early on.

This is what I’ve been thinking. I wonder if AJ vs Fury is more likely now if Wilder beats Fury and they end up meeting without all the belts. It’d lose something obviously, one of the most appealing things about that whole thing was that they’d unify the belts and settle who the main man was. But it’d still be a big deal of course if they ever eventually clash.

Rematch clauses are gonna muddy it all though. Usyk vs Joshua 2 is no doubt gonna be next and even if Wilder sparks Fury in a couple of weeks, then they’re 1-1-1 and probably go straight into a 4th fight. Strip all the rematch clauses, politics and belts away and I’d rather just see Usyk vs the winner of Fury vs Wilder 3 next and AJ against the loser. Either way we get the titles unified in one fight and AJ in a humungous fight against one of the 2 names people have wanted to see him in with for ages. But it won’t go like that obviously in Rematch City.

Fury mentioned in his interview with Gary Neville that if they can't get it sorted due to rematches and mandatory clauses, then he'll look to fight without the belts. Fury has been very clear that once the Wilder fight is out the way he wants to fight AJ and retire.

  7. Piss funny, really. It wouldn't surprise me if AJ loses the rematch and they do AJ v Fury without the belts now.

It felt like as soon as Usyk wanted to up his output, Joshua was losing the round. Joshua didn't have the cardio, skill or speed to match him when Usyk did.

One of Joshua's greatest attribute is his resilience, as he's always been vulnerable, and that's getting put to the test in the rematch. He was beaten soundly by a smarter and more skilled fighter here and be interesting to see if he can close the gap.

  8. Similar to wand, I've had a few mates that are into boxing, and not MMA, bring up it was a fix due to Woodley seemingly avoiding putting any sort of serious work in, as they saw how deadly he looked when he was arsed throwing something serious. I'd maybe think that too if I hadn't watched Woodley do this for years.

Oh well. Fair play Woodley for getting paid and at least he didn't look as bad as Askren. Although I'd be proper annoyed if I was him, that I let the fight get away from me. Hopefully he gets another pay day out of it.

Tommy Fury looks miles off. No wonder Jake Paul wants to fight him soon.

  9. I ended up skipping a chunk of it, as it just felt like they were filling time until Punk showed up. Not sure that's what they're after.

The Punk promo was fine and I did enjoy that he spent it building up his match, but it just felt too brief. Suppose anything outside of a classic angle or promo would have felt a bit of a let down after Friday.

  10. It's difficult to really summarise a moment so intangible and emotional that it awakes your fandom in something you've loved most of your life, after the joy got dripped out of you after years of unrelenting dross, with little hope and sign of it returning. Maybe that's the best I can do tbf. It really could not have gone any better and you just hope this is the start of something really special.

I'm not even a massive Punk fan either, but he's given me two moments like this and let's all hope it works out better than last time. No Triple H in sight is a good start.

  11. The Edgar Wright directed Sparks documentary is really good.

It's brilliance is in how it covers all 25 albums and manages to hold the interest. It only dwells if there is a story of interest there, if not they're on to the next one pretty quick. It also acknowledges all the misteps - Balls pleasingly gets the piss taken out of it by Russell.

Very funny too which is what a Sparks documentary should be.

If you're a fan of the band I can't see how you'll be disappointed with it. I assume it is funny enough for folk who aren't too.

  12. If this version of Conor was interrupted by Jeremy Stephens he'd fire back "Shut up, you little bitch. You're a little bitch. Shut your mouth, you little bitch. I'll kill you. You little bitch".

Then Stephens would point out he doesn't win many fights these days and Conor would shut up.

  13. The press conference was like turning up to see an old singer and they can no longer hit the notes. Conor's head is mush and he very clearly doesn't have that sharp retort in him anymore. The highlight was indeed the random bringing up Conor's win record.

On the fight, it's a big old who knows. Both men will have made adjustments. Poirier was honest and said he was close to getting stopped early doors in their last fight, so Conor clearly can finish it.

  14. Maybe due to crowd losing the head at everything but that's their best show in ages. Delightful end seeing Masvidal getting absolutely pasted too. I thought Usman would dominate but that was about as emphatic a stoppage as you'll see.

Weidman's leg going the same way it did for Silva is a really twisted coincidence.

  15. I'd love to know how much Askren actually trained for the fight. It's almost inspiring how little he seemed to give a care about the result.

Fair play to Jake Paul. Although hopefully his team are silly enough to put him in there with a noted striker.

I would say shitty Bray Wyatt can get in the sea, but he’d probably emerge dressed as the kraken only to magic himself back into his Everton mint trousers the massive shitarse.

The best part of the opener was before Randy kicked into serious mode, and was just mucking about on his entrance.

Randy deserves a proper, magic-free run now. Stick him in with Lashley or Roman or something. Let him go and be free in his lovely white pants.

Lance Storm pointed out Orton is probably fine with all this spooky bollocks as, at the very least, he's not taking very many bumps. He just seemed so pleased to be showing off his white gear.

Bray Wyatt is insufferable. A lot of very good ideas in there mind, but they usually always go in the worst direction possible.

I just don't think WWE is for me anymore. I thought the first night wasn't up to much and the Sunday was even more of a chore.

Stuff happened, not very much of it memorable, then the main event very nearly saved it. Roman Reigns and his entire presentation is absolutely top drawer.

Reigns pinning both Edge and Bryan is such a boss visual. Fair play to both of them for letting Reigns do it.

  17. All in, just felt a little under whelming.

Outside of Bad Bunny and Shane just wanting Vince to tell him it's alright, the most interesting part of the show was the rain delay as you could clearly sense they were flying by the seat of their pants at breakneck speed.

I felt sorry for Drew, but that was maybe the point. The match just seemed to go on for ages and never really got going, then the finish wasn't the best for protecting the babyface. Maybe why I found it hard to get into the remainder of the show, as it was such an underwhelming match. Wasn't even a good opener, so good shout not putting it on last.

Bad Bunny v Brock Lesnar is the match we want.

Bianca Blair is one of the most likeable people they've had in a long time. I know next to nothing about her character but she's got such natural charisma and the daft Kardashian ponytail is a great look.

For me, everything else just seemed to blend together.
