I had no idea Cool Hand and Ruby were a couple in real life. Double brilliant news!

I donā€™t think it was ever publicly confirmed they were a real couple, though I saw some speculation due to them suddenly being in each otherā€™s orbit on screen.

I'm not a big follower but Yota Tsuji looks the business and Umino, Uemura and O-Khan seem like they could be something.

Am I wrong in that assessment?

Yota Tsuji absolutely, and itā€™s clear to me that heā€™s a definite future World Champion given how heā€™s been presented since his return from excursion.

Shota Umino, I think, will be one of their big stars a little later, as will Ren Narita and eventually Yuya Uemura.

In fact, werenā€™t Tsuji, Umino and Narita recently christened their new ā€˜Three Musketeersā€™?

To be fair, theyā€™re collapsing Eddie Kingstonā€™s titles into this new one, so theyā€™ll actually be down one championship.Ā

I think it might be time for Tony to take a sabbatical. Get a fresh pair of eyes on things, simplify things and get back to basics.

The ONE thing that will likely not happen that probably needs to happen the most.Ā

Imagine being a wrestling promotion and being the tag along to a reality series, rather than the other way round.

That doesnā€™t exactly bode well for NWA Powerrrā€™s viability once the network gets the wedding footage aired.

    Yeah!

Ā Edit: also a big fan of the old school hip hop lyrics that Knight throws into his promos. Ā This week he quoted John Cenaā€™s Basic Thugganomics intro theme!

Makes absolute sense. Heā€™s a huge hip hop and RnB fan, and used to produce his old theme music, which was invariably hip hop(-leaning). Iā€™m thinking his remixed Impact theme in particular. At least I believe thatā€™s what he told Chris Van Vliet a few years ago.Ā

  6. I was one of the ā€˜ringside packageā€™ people sat in the front row, at British Uprising 3 (and travelled up on a coach from London, meaning I couldnā€™t wait behind after the typically late start/finish to meet Terry Funk, something that niggles me now more than ever) and would often forget that Iā€™d actually seen him wrestle live. I wonā€™t forget ever again.

In a real case of ā€˜a moment in timeā€™ I distinctly remember at the conclusion of the 6 Man he was involved in, the ā€˜storyā€™ of that match among the section of ringside fans I was in was Paul Burchill going to WWE and some people around me were annoyed that all-time great Terry Funk stayed to celebrate rather than leave and ā€˜give the ringā€™ to Burchill to soak up the crowd adulation.Ā

Terry Funk gave more to the wrestling business than he ever seemed to demand of it in return when his longevity, body of work and titles could have made him selfish, bitter, entitled and all-round difficult person to deal with. But no, all the people who have worked with him or met him (a few people I know) say nothing but good things about him.

And as for his matches, angles and moments, he absolutely made you believe.Ā

To echo a lot of what has been said, we all knew he was ill, and there was a real sense of where this was going when he was moved out of his longtime ranch and home, but it still stings nonetheless.

The tributes and emotional outpouring weā€™re going to get from wresting media (and find time to read PWInsider write ups from Mike Johnson and Dave Scherer to see what I mean) and the podcasters, like Bruce, Bischoff, Konnan, Cornette, JR, Tony, Bully Ray, Tommy Dreamer, and even possibly Russo, will probably wax lyrical about Terry Funk. Itā€™ll be a tough week of output but a joy to listen to as they share stories and laughs. At least Iā€™m assuming. Weā€™ll see what happens.

Hereā€™s hoping heā€™s at peace now, and as a believer in spirituality, hereā€™s hoping heā€™s reunited with his wife.

    RIP Terry Funk

Definitely didn't hear anything like that at all and no one I know in various other sections heard anything like that either.

The most offensive thing I saw all night was two Austin Theory matches.

That last bit made me šŸ¤£

It seemed far-fetched (given all that I said before) but it was worth asking to have the falsehood confirmed. If anything, it looks like it may have just been an invented pretext for the people on Twitter/Reddit to say those things themselves.

For reasons that are probably obvious now, Iā€™m tuned in to things like this. Some may say sensitive. Thankfully this seems to be total nonsense.

The show itself was an alright one, with the expected love for LA Knight and some decent hype for tonightā€™s show. Not perfect but decent.

I had a quick look, and if this one person on Twitter is telling the truth, and it was a whole section as they claim, then I'm going to have to think that 1.) The majority of people that were sat around them reported it/them/called them out on it and 2.) WWE will address this, as football clubs often do.

    Or 3.) It's absolute bollocks.Ā

I have no idea, as I wasnā€™t there, but I know a few people here were so they may be able to confirm or disprove this.

Iā€™ll admit to being surprised reading it, as weā€™ve worked hard as a country to tackle this sort of thing in sporting and entertainment events. Even factoring in the ā€œbut wrestling fans are wrong ā€˜unsā€ narrative.Ā

Iā€™m sure weā€™ll get to the truth of the matter.Ā

Well that was about as explosive as the Exploding Barbed Wire Match

If that interview is considered inflammatory or kicking a hornetā€™s nest, then, either:

    1) Wade Keller is as soft as cooked beans,

    2) The expectation is that CM Punk comes back, keeps his head down, plays in his new sandbox, and says nothing (to ā€˜defend himselfā€™) or

    3) Relating to point 1, weā€™ve just seen an example played out live of some wrestling media stirring things and casting a negative shadow over CM Punk (who sometimes needs no help) like his most ardent fans and supporters, such as Cornette and Last, have always argued.

It was good to hear from him (as he had kept quiet or been silenced), though my prevailing thought is it is his side of things. I recognise the imbalance as weā€™ve not heard directly from any of the other parties, though some wrestling writers have conveyed their side.

But in general, thereā€™s nothing particularly new that I learned from it.Ā

Iā€™m waiting to watch Collision to see how it pans out and if the success of that and the focussing of minds on Dynamite (and vice versa) can raise the tide and lift all ships in AEW.

  10. Impact Wrestling just laid down the gauntlet for this weekendā€™s wrestling shows in terms of action, angles and drama. They are on a roll. And as I constantly say, if they upgraded their production and used bigger, better lit buildings, they could possibly compete.

Because action-wise and creatively, I think Ā they are more consistent and less scatty than AEW.

Night Of Champions might match it, maybe even beat it.Ā

Iā€™ll be shocked if Double or Nothing and NXT equal it.

  11. I donā€™t know if it warrants its own thread at this stage but at the upfronts, AEW Collision has officially been announced for June 17th.Ā

And the logo is a definite Turner callback, shall we say

(Iā€™m not able to post pictures right now)

Impact have been really good at allowing people to gain skills and confidence and sometimes even reinvent themselves. If you'd told me Steve Maclin would be as great to watch as he is now I would've laughed my head off. So yeah I think it's a decent place for her to thrive for now.

    Same with W. Morrissey.

He turned up in great shape, got his presentation down, was presented seriously and his limited number of strengths were played to.Ā

Thatā€™s more important that people realise these days given his meandering journey in AEW so far.

I agree that Impact have essentially repurposed themselves as a polishing shop for lost toys and I think Trinity will be more wanted by other companies when she comes out of the other side.Ā

In my opinion, sheā€™s a decent wrestler (no more) with an individual gear style, dynamic movements and a (letā€™s be frank) noticeably protruding backside that she deploys as part of her arsenal. But in Impact, thereā€™s every chance, they can tap into something more.Ā

  13. Regarding the main event result, I never committed to Cody winning or invested in it because at the back of my mind were those reports and leaks that Vince wanted Roman to hold one or both titles for as long as they could get away with it, WWE looking to hit 1000 days, the Summerslam pitch, Roman being on the ads for Backlash, compounded by Vinceā€™s increasing creative ā€˜inputā€™.Ā
    Ā

I just had a feeling Roman would win based on all of the above.
    Ā

Regarding Wrestlemania being the best- or most effective/climactic time for Cody to have won, I donā€™t exactly disagree, and I note the Lex Luger Summerslam 1993 comparisons made by Jim Cornette in the run up to the show (though Iā€™m sure itā€™s been made better and elsewhere) and on here. Though I donā€™t believe that Codyā€™s story is done, the fast moving nature of the fan base or possibly those still harbouring resentment that Sami wasnā€™t in this match will mentally move on and find someone else to get behind.Ā
    Ā

The effect of that being if Cody should win the title(s) it probably wonā€™t mean the same as it would have a few hours ago.

Of course, there could be something that occurs tonight on RAW, Friday on Smackdown or on any of the PLE from now on that attempts to mitigate the feeling of disappointment Iā€™m seeing online.

I guess so. Iā€™m posting from Portugal, and was surprised to see the video. Itā€™s Johnny Swingerā€™s theme and a (custom) video.

If you search for it in the U.K. youā€™ll never find his theme on YT.
