  1. Recently watched the Macho Man documentary on the network. Found it a bit weird, they seemed to jump from kayfaybe and real life a lot. Especially around the stuff with Elizabeth and him being controlling and jealous.

Also found Lanny Poffo to be all for himself. How his poems and words made everyone cry etc,

Be grateful he didnt tell the story about he could fit his own dick in his mouth

  2. Anyone seen this before? Billy Gunn actually worked in the 80s! If you hear any interview with him, he was discovered in a gym by the Harris Twins, he worked a few shows for Eddy Mansfield and then WWF hired him. In the space of a few months! But this proves otherwise. Mind fucking blown.

Theres also a singles match from same period where he wrestles Sting.

  3. I loved it when The Rougeaus started bringing the little American flags to the ring saying they were now Americans and Jesse started calling them Jack and Ray. Great old school tag team as goodies and baddies. If my memory serves me correctly, they didnt actually have one main moment turning on anyone or that, they just gradually turned bad. I remember they fought the bees on July 4th and i think that was it. At the time when it was announced i thought it was strange two goodie teams fighting each other.

  4. Earlier I watched the live episode of WWF Mnia from the morning of Royal Rumble 94. Most of it is the usual recap filler but there's a couple of intriguing bits I've never seen before.

    * Bret and Owen both drawing their RR numbers. Owen gets a shitty number and then starts to get arsey and Bret gets a decent number and comes over all smug.

    * Vince, Savage and Pettengill all going up 10ft in the air on a forklift. ( When Macho makes his entrance he does a 'proper' entrance to his theme whilst the only people there are the ringcrew. Bizarre)

  5. I couldn't really think where to post this on the Brit wres section but what happened to MK McKinnon? He was quite popular around the time I was getting in to the UK scene back in 2012 but haven't heard his name in years and can't seem to find anything online.

  6.

Are those Beyond the Rings docs the full docs that featured on the DVD's? are just edited down to one hour versions which appear on Sky Sports now and again

The Beyond the Ring stuff is the full documentary but they often do a First Look which trims the docs down to a half hour though that tends to be for the newer releases

Not sure about the others, but the HBK one felt longer than the DVD version

How's Droz doing these days ?

Has his situation improved at all??

Does WWE support him fully financially still ?

Don't know about his situation right now, but they got rid of him as a WWE.com columnist after he went to the news media and said something "bad" about the WWE during the Benoit situation. A bit harsh I felt. WWE must not be paying him anything, which is fucking sad.

Darren Drozdov had it all going. And then, an accident during a WWE match in 1999 left him paralyzed. Fifteen years later, 'Droz' considers himself a living miracle.

"No matter what puts you down, in my eyes and in my mind, there is always another day. Just because I'm paralyzed and stuck in a wheelchair, doesn't mean my life is over. I've learned to live again and my life is far from over." — Darren Drozdov

WWE Superstar Darren Drozdov was 30 years old in 1999. He was an outstanding, multiple-sport athlete, a former defensive tackle for the University of Maryland who had a short NFL career and went on to become one of WWE's brightest prospects.

On Oct. 5 of that year, at a WWE TV taping at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y, in a heartbeat, the 6-foot-3, 280-pounder became a quadriplegic with essentially no movement below the neck.

A basic pro wrestling maneuver called a power bomb delivered to Droz by veteran grappler D'Lo Brown went terribly wrong, and multiple people's lives were changed. Forever.

I have no hard feelings toward D'Lo because sh*t happens and everyone who gets involved in athletics, including WWE, knows the risks that exist. It was an accident.

    Darren Drozdov

"I have no hard feelings toward D'Lo because sh*t happens and everyone who gets involved in athletics, including WWE, knows the risks that exist," Droz told me by phone from his New Jersey home recently. "It was an accident."

I met Droz when we were recruiting him for WWE and I was EVP of the Talent Relations department. Droz had gained a degree of infamy after he vomited on the football prior to the center snapping the pigskin on "Monday Night Football."

The incident became a highlight-reel moment for the Denver Broncos nose tackle. It earned Droz the nickname "Puke," which caught the interest of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. When we met with Droz in McMahon's office, the likable and charismatic athlete puked in the chairman's trash can — on camera, by the way — as a part of his audition.'

    *********

Darren Drozdov and his constant companions, Great Danes Skye and Bleu.

In high school, Darren Drozdov was a 6-foot-3, 240-pound option quarterback who by his own admission — and with a smile — "did not throw the ball much, but I did run over a lot of people." Droz also was an outstanding track and field athlete as he competed in the shot put, javelin, and discus, even earning a spot in the state track meet as a 110-meter high hurdler. Droz followed in the footsteps of his father, who was Maryland's last three-sport letterman.

Today, the 45-year-old Droz lives near where he grew up in South Jersey, across the river from his father and mother along with his sister and her family. Droz has to have 24-hour, in-home care to help him function. Thanks to the efforts of WWE and others, Droz is able to have a degree of independence and many of his staff have become like extended family.

"The McMahons came through for me and I remember my Dad saying after the surgeries that 'Thank God that you worked for WWE,' " Droz said. "The WWE is still supportive."

Droz is still a huge Maryland football fan and stays in touch with many of his former college teammates and friends who are regular callers and visitors.

One of the many who stays in contact with Droz is Kevin Plank, the CEO and Founder of Under Armour. Plank and Droz were suitemates in college and have maintained a great relationship.

Plank helped facilitate a rip chair, which is like a "tank with wheels," and allows Droz to put his wheelchair in the custom-made vehicle and move around in the woods so that he can resume his passion for deer hunting.

Droz recently harvested his first deer since the '99 accident, thanks to the assistance of friends, some amazing hunting technology and his rip chair.

"It was the first, true adrenaline rush that I've had in 15 years," he said. "I never thought that I would be able to rejoin my friends in the deer woods much less hunt, but thanks to technology and the help of a lot of people, I got my first deer, with a bow no less, and now I look forward to the gun season for deer. To be able to harvest my own food — and I love venison —made me feel amazing."

Droz's folks, who never missed a college football game that their son played, are frequent visitors to Casa Droz and Darren reciprocates, but he can't drive due to the many painful muscle spasms he has daily, which also cause migraine-like headaches.

He has to take dozens of meds several times a day along with having to lay flat for long periods. He's somewhat leery of all the medicines that he's taken and how that will affect him in the long term, but he believes it's necessary at this point in his life.

While speaking about his daily regimen and the dozens of pills he takes, Droz shared a somewhat humorous moment regarding those terrible headaches he gets with the muscle spasms.

I had to start my life over after the accident and I've grown to realize that I'm still very much alive. I'm far from dead.

    Darren Drozdov

"I was having a bad headache and my mom was there to give my staff a little break," he told me. "I said mom, 'Will you hand me that pipe?' The pipe contained a small amount of marijuana which, after a couple of puffs, makes the headaches disappear or at least become manageable.

"JR, did you ever smoke pot in front of your mom?" My answer was no. Droz said, "Well, let me tell you that it's a different experience and one that I had to get used to, but mom understands and knows it helps me deal with the spasm-induced headaches."

Droz credits his family and friends for creating a support system that has helped him deal with his paralysis amazingly well.

"For some reason, even as a kid, I always had a strong premonition that I would die young," he said. "I don't know why but I've had that feeling for as long as I can remember. I guess, in a way, when the accident occurred, that a large part of me did die, but over time my mindset on that has changed over the years. I had to start my life over after the accident and I've grown to realize that I'm still very much alive. I'm far from dead."

Hugh Brown (50) and Dave deBruin (55) were Terp teammates of Droz and help him to this day.

So whether its Droz's loving family, his longtime buddies like Hugh Brown and his parents who have sent him a postcard or letter every week for 15 years, Plank, guys like "Brew" or countless other pals, the former Maryland Terrapin, Denver Bronco, New York Jet, Philadelphia Eagle and WWE Superstar is the emotional leader of his own "team," which definitely is winning in the game of life.

Droz's positive attitude will lift anyone's spirits. He's nothing short of a miracle.

"My team is a Godsend and all I can do for them is to not give up and to battle just like I have all my life," he says. "I even try and motivate them and I hope that I do."

  8. Top angle for its time. Crush turns on Savage. I remember at the time though they sort of invented some blagg frienship that had been going on between them, when it hadnt. Was a very good angle though. Savage was the master at things like this.

Crush was fecking useless though in every roll he played. Kronick maybe he was ok but other than that absoloutley useless.

Oh I dunno Hawaiian Crush was pretty good....until he stepped into the ring.

I am intrigued about Taker in SMW.

Not just any SMW match, but against a man he really ought to have recognised but continued to presume dead for another two years.

Pop Fact: Taker wrestled Glen Jacobs under all 4 of his major gimmicks - Unabom, Isaac Yankem, Fake Diesel and Kane

  10. I realise most of my posts on here either (a)dont make a lot of sense (b) are in the picture thread or ©are jokey so this is quite a serious one for me.

To recap: I've spent a lot of the last 3.5 extremely fucking poorly. Was misdiagnosed for the 2 odd years (making the occasional attempt at work only to be met by convulsion like panic attacks) before finally being given heavy duty meds and going through the medical referal system essentially with no support before finally being diagnosed with a combo of neurological and personality stuff.

I'm stable enough atm to be able to start looking for work. Only problem is I've spent my entire 'career' working in callcentres/ I've been in them enough now though to realise that they don't help with the personality I have- I'd rather mince my own testes rather than deal with the general public at this point. I'm thinking data entry/admin woud be something that I'd suit, but obviously with a 3 odd year gap on my CV thats not ideal.

Ive seen an occupational therapy woman last week who wasn't much cop and I'm seeing Remploy on Thursday. Hopefully I'm not too long in the tooth at 36 to look at some kind of apprenticeship.

Me and the lovely Ruth have been together now for 6 months and very much in love. Still going well!

    Sadly....

Me and Ruth split up 2 weeks ago... Its been hard for me, Things hadn't been right for a couple of weeks and i was adamant something wasn't right, but thought maybe i was was thinking too much about it. Turned out i was right all along, She said her feelings had changed for me.. Worst thing is she dumped me over a whatsapp message.. and when i tried to ring her she didn't pick up.

I went round a week ago to get some blurays and that's the last time i saw her. She wants to be friends... She can go fuck herself.

Sorry to hear that man. I know how much of a total cunt the whole breakup by email/FB/whatsapp etc is.

  12. All anti-depressants are liable to cause drowsiness unfortunately Tommy. Your prescriber may choose to lower your dose or try you on another SSRI. I don't know what your local areas policys are but from my neck of the woulds they would try you on Fluoxetine then Citalopram.

I have heard mention of Venlafaxine apparently being one of the better ones to avoid sleepiness but GPs seem to be steering away from it.

I've been on Venlafaxine...made me wanna sleep all day long and that was on a low dose.

  13. re: HHH & HBK vs LOD, wasn't that the combo on RAW that ended with the LOD beatdown by DX and the Outlaws? I imagine the one on the DVD would have just been the house show equivalent, with more heel shenanigans.

The one on the DVD is actually a lot more even sided - no involvement from NAO at all. You can tell HBK is having a ball....shoving a boom mike between his legs and doing the 'suck it;'

  14.

Cheers for that match listing. It looks like loads of fun! I have an inkling to get it for myself at xmas for the novelty of watching a WWE set on xmas day like the old days. Not bought a DVD in years.

Whats nutty is the video sources. On some matches the camera is as you would expect on a PPV. On others its a combination of WWE camera and fancam

It's a bit of a niche product anyway but I'm also thinking this is a pretty big set of matches that a lot of them are going to have no commentary on. It's part of the reason I'm interested in it, actually. You can see the nuances of what's in the work of a wrestling match much easier I think without the commentary overlaying the story for you.

    You'd be right.
