Yeh its completely going over my head, and im not sure why? I think the long layoffs isnt helping and im trying to remind myself just how good Volkanovski is.

For me it just doesn't really feel like Ortega should be challenging for the belt. In my mind he got badly beaten by Holloway, disappeared for 3 years and now has a title shot off the back of one win against someone not near the title picture. Maybe that's just me.ย

yeh that was a bad one too. Did Conor actually call to be interviewed? ive only seen it once so cant recall.

He was making a load of noise (not clear enough to hear what he was saying) off camera when Rogan was in the cage. Then I think Rogan said something along the lines of "I'll come and talk to you too". Then there was a long pause when Rogan and Mcgregor were off screen following Poirier's interview - plenty of time for Mcgregor to make it clear he was in no position to be interviewed.

Nice slow-mo of the teep that John Kavanagh claims did the initial damage to Mcgregor's leg:

I know Iโ€™d be downvoted to fuck on Sherdog but the Oโ€™Malley vs Moutinho match was pretty uncomfortable to watch. I was hoping it wouldโ€™ve been stopped a lot sooner as he was never going to win and just risked more and more damage. Had no business being in there, but will have secured more UFC fights in doing so!

Couldn't agree more. Corner should've stopped him coming out after round 2.ย

1-0 Poirier for me. McGregor tried to kekindle the old magic but it wasnt there for me. Poirier not phased in the slightest.

Props to the guy who opened his question with "Conor, you've won one fight since Barack Obama was president..." ๐Ÿ˜„

Yeah, thought basically the same. Poirier was visibly aggitated at times but largely didn't bite. Pulled a Khabib on McGregor.

It's basically impossible to say without sounding like you've been worked because we've heard the bullshit so many times before ... but McGregor does genuinely look more up for this one. In an earlier interview I saw him mention getting into Dustin's head before the fight and you can see here that he's working hard to try and do that. He seems to be doing less media than normal and he's left his family at home instead of bringing them with him like normal. Don't get me wrong, I'm not buying it as being the reason he lost the second fight and I don't see it changing the result on Saturday. It's fair to argue he's more focused for this one though.

As we get closer to this PPV I'm genuinely getting more nervous for Conor. Everyone is saying this is McGregor's last roll of the dice in MMA and I have to agree.ย
If he looses again you have to think he will throw in the towel and walk away from the UFC forever.....or at least until he spunks a load of his money.ย

I think that, at the very least, he has the Nate Diaz trilogy left in him regardless of the result this weekend. It'll be up to him ultimately, there's no way the UFC refuse to book that fight if he wants it. He could have walked away after the Khabib loss when it becameย clear he wasn't getting the rematch, but he didn't. Win or lose, I think he fights again. I think his ego is too big to go out on a loss.

I do want a Conor to win but with him coming out and saying stuff like don't throw any takedowns, let's just stand and bang you have to think he isn't feeling totally comfortable with Dustin on the ground.

I think that's just standard pre-fight talk, to be honest. I don't see how he beats Dustin. I don't see how he stops Dustin on the feet. It's become pretty clear now that his power doesn't carry through to lightweight. He landed clean in the second fight and Dustin walked through it. I don't see how he beats Dustin on the ground. He certainly doesn't out wrestle him and he has a total of 1 win by submission in his career - a decade ago in Cage Warriors. The only way he beats Dustin is to out-point him, but that means going the distance and Conor's biggest weakness has always been his gas tank.

We have to consider the fact that Mcgregor has been here before when he came back and beat Nate Diaz. That was a points win where he narrowly came out on top byย executing a good game plan. I think Dustin is a better fighter than Nate Diaz was at that time, though. I just don't see how Mcgregor wins.

  6. Does a fight like this have to be sanctioned by a boxing commission? How does anyone justify sanctioning a fight between someone who is 50-0 and someone who is 0-1?

Is it likely the rules of the fight will be so strict that it'll be a boxing fight in name only? Is that why they haven't announced the specifics along with the fight annoucement?

Aain, even if McGregor wants to fight this guy (and I'm not all that sure he does) there'd be no way it happens while he's under UFC contract. Unless Paul signs to fight under the UFC banner it won't be happening.

I remember the exact same thing being said about McGregor fighting Mayweather.
