I moved into some temporary digs on Sunday whilst my bonehead building managers sort out issues at home. I’m ashamed to say it’s taken me 48 hours to visit the chippy which is 350 yards away.

It’s meant to be the best chippy in Toxteth, but I wanted to be the judge of that.

They may be right, because that was tremendous.

The sausage isn’t anaemic, it’s just under the kitchen light. The pie was exactly as it should be - piping hot and soft but with a firm crust - and the peas, chips and gravy were a dream. Less than a fiver, too!

It’s my duty to try all of the other locals, but this will take some beating.

350 yards, though. This might be the boost the Cardioace shareholders have been waiting for.

Less than a fiver for all of that? Where do you live, the 1970's?! I can barely get pie and chips for a fiver here in Coventry, let alone everything else. Top drawer that!

  2. Don't judge...Shed Seven, Liam Gallagher, Foo Fighters & Taylor Swift booked up so far for next year. Also got The Drifters Girl and Book of Mormon booked up for the theatre, but I guess that's for a different thread!

  3. I agree that the way the ticket "allocation" for Taylor Swift has been handled is absolutely bonkers. You're basically entering a lottery and the winners get to enter the lottery to stand a chance of wining the big prize! I've never known anything like it, and certainly haven't seen any other artist/band limit access to their shows in such a way. Although I suspect it's less to do with TS and more to do with Ticketmaster.

I'm not a massive fan, but my niece is, so I've been all over this. Got family to register for codes etc, and not one of us got one. Some of the ticket prices are quite frankly extortionate, and I think it says a lot that almost 24 hours after the final phased release of tickets none of the dates have sold out. Yet, if they become more widely available (They've got to open the release up at some point, surely?!) I'd still be there snapping up what I can to make my niece's year getting to see her.

  4. Ahhh I didn't know they were touring again. God bless the UKFF!

And lets not ignore the fact they're only charging £30 a ticket (excluding fees) which in this day and age is an amazing price!!

  5. @waters44 I have a friend that has been in a similar position. Like @Accident Prone says, they're great until they stop working for whatever reason.

My friend started using someone from a recommendation, and for the first year it was all good. Then after a few weeks of paying for the second year it stopped working, the facebook page for it got locked, the guy running it stopped responding to messages etc. They found another provider and stumped up again for a year, and then a week later the original just started working again! All the time whilst also keeping Sky "just in case" (albeit at a reduced rate because they threatened to leave).

Both subscriptions have run out now, but my friend is going to stick with the second supplier and get another year and then reduce their sky package to the cheapest one possible to keep the recording facility available "just in case".

  6. I remember a game back in the day that was basically run on an Excel spreadsheet (I think). Pretty sure it was like a football management type game. My memory is a bit hazy, but it was always perfect as a work game to pass a bit of time!

  7. It's been a bit of a tricky one for me to wrestle with as being a diabetic I'm considered higher risk. Since re-opening I've been to a couple of gigs (Laura Marling @ O2 Institute - 1500 capacity, and Shed Seven @ O2 Academy Birmingham - capacity 3900). For both, anyone wearing a mask was in the massive minority and essentially everyone was carrying on as if Covid didn't exist (although Laura Marling hardly gets the crowd bouncing anyway!). I personally chose to not wear a mask for the gig itself in the end as I would have got little protection seeing as no one else was wearing one, and chose to stand at the back/side where it was a little quieter people wise. Moving forwards it definitely makes me think twice before buying tickets as to whether I really, really want to go and see them!

  8. @jazzygeofferz I'm not remotely claiming to be a Diabetic specialist, but I was diagnosed as type 1 last year so I'm very much on a steep learning curve of blood tests, finger pricks and injections. It gets even more fun when you carb count and have to work out what carbs are in your meal to then calculate how many units of insulin you should be injecting into yourself to keep you alive! Since September (when I was diagnosed) I've lost 9kg - that's not the result of dieting, but probably being more restricted on what I choose to eat, so essentially cutting out a lot of sugary stuff, cutting down on carbs a bit etc. So if you have any questions, I can certainly try to help.

I went to Tesco's on my lunch break specifically to get these. No sign of them anywhere. Life keeps serving up disappointment after disappointment!

I get that, but the classes I've been to are "right, let's fucking go!" with no intro to what you're doing. The timings are tricky for me too so I either do the app or don't go at all!

I can't lie, it's difficult to really give new starters a proper feel for what they're getting themselves into. I'll always ask if there's anyone new in class, and if so I've got like 20 seconds to give them a brief overview of what they're about to do, but it in no way really gives them a flavour of what they're about to do! I suppose with most group exercise classes is that fact that it's repetitive, so even if you are new and don't get it right the first time, in that track there will always be another opportunity to try again.

I've been using the app and I've really enjoyed it. Even better the family has got involved, BodyCombat with son, Barre with daughter, SH'BAM with wife!

That's awesome to hear! There's a basic fear amongst Les Mills instructors that virtual will result in them losing their jobs so to speak. However it's really the opposite, Virtual is designed to tap into new participants, make them comfortable with combat or whatever, so that they're more likely to go to a live class because there's less of a fear of the unknown if that makes sense

Would either of you recommend the Les Mills app? A gym freak at work has been raving about it.

I'd say it depends on how capable you are in pushing yourself to workout on your own. One of the benefits of group exercise is in the name - you're in a group and so unknowingly or unwittingly you end up pushing each other along. If you're able to replicate that at home, then go for it. However, if you're like me, I can't motivate myself at all to do stuff on my own; I know damn well that if I go to the gym (rather than a class) I'll half arse it for half an hour or so and then give up, then I'd stick to "live" classes. I think you can get a 10 or 30 day free trial if you sign up, so worst case scenario try it risk free for a bit. Just remember to cancel if it's not for you.

  14. Bodycombat - based on mixed martial arts, so moves are focused around punching, kneeing and kicking.

Bodyattack - more akin to "traditional" aerobics, so will step touch, step curl etc, but also includes breathing out of your backside elements like burpees, lunges, jumps to spike the heart rate.

You may occasionally get the same/similar move in both, but they'll be fairly generic like a lunge or squat. Burpees are in bodyattack, modified sprawls are in bodycombat - essentially the same thing!

I no longer teach Bodyattack, and I notice that my cardio/stamina has suffered a little bit for it. Both are wicked workouts in their own way though.

  15. @Onyx2 I'm a bodycombat instructor. I also teach bodypump and bodyattack. Les Mills work in quarters, so you're starting at the very start of a quarter with a new release - new music and choreography etc, so should mean for the next few weeks you'll be doing the same thing so you can get used to it, and then start to push yourself etc. The new bodycombat release is absolutely brutal. If you don't walk out of there trying to breathe out of your backside you're not doing it right!! If you've got any questions, just drop me a message

  16. I've been watching Damned@tiger_rick, I'm really enjoying it so far. In my opinion there's no obvious drop from the first series, which is worth catching if you're able to dig it out from somewhere. Some of the one liners they come out with are quite funny. And for anyone that has been/is involved with anything like the NHS/Social Services type environment then there's some really relatable moments

As discussion has turned towards the Midlands - where's tops for a curry in Cov, gents?

A dozen of us are headed that way for the CAMRA beer festival at the rugby club on the first weekend in March (technically my 'stag do').

    Thanks in advance.

Hey @Statto, where about are you stopping? My Favourite place for a curry in Coventry is the Dhaka Dynasty on Walsgrave Road (http://dhakadynasty.co.uk/). So if you're staying fairly central it's a taxi ride away, but shouldn't be any more than 10 minutes in a taxi from the town centre. If you go, you'll see a row of shops and wonder where it is. It's actually above the row of shops so you'd be looking for basically a front door (next to the chip shop) to take you upstairs. There's plenty of places to go in the town centre, but most tend to be more style over substance. However, if you're looking for a place that is literally a 5 minute walk away from the Butts, have a look at Akbars (https://www.akbarscuisine.com/). It does tend to get quite busy at the weekends, and if there's 12 of you it might be worth considering booking, but it's always been nice in there, if a little more expensive than your "standard" curry. If you're into sharing or trying new things, have a chat with them about them just bringing out a selection of dishes for you that you can all just dive in to.

Hope that helps, but if you wanna know anything else, just holla!
