Bryan Danielson vs Mike Quackenbush august 11 cant wait to see this one

The August 11th show is in Philadelphia - this match is almost certainly an effort to draw CHIKARA fans across, as the June Philly show drew less than the February one. Here's hoping they can build a storyline reason for the match in the events at the end of the month, so it makes sense when watching on DVD, as it's just thrown out there at the moment.

So that's an extra 50 people then.

Being serious, if Mike Quakenbush does draw 50 extra people then he is well worth a main event slot for that show.

July 8th: We have a big lineup change for ROH's Osaka show on July 17th. Due to an injury YAMATO will not be able to compete. BXB Hulk will now make his ROH debut to team with Shingo in the main event. It will be Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. BXB Hulk & Shingo in Osaka for the ROH World Tag Team Titles. ROH officials are already negotiating with Dragon Gate officials to bring BXB Hulk & Shingo to the United States if they win the belts.

Shame that YAMATO's injured but that match should be awesome now

Any news on the next UK shows?

Its not gonna happen this year, I have been told. :(
Well that's a bitch, I was looking forward to it. But then again, I'll have a better chance of getting to England next year which is pretty good.

Seeing as I have more spare money than usual, I decided to fill in my ROH gaps and go back to the start and go through the shows.

Jay Briscoe vs. The Amazing Red

The first time I watched this, I enjoyed it. This time around I was sort of indifferent. I didn't mind it, but there was something about the Jay Driller being shat on with it's first appearance that I didn't appreciate. The Amazing Red is fairly fun to watch if you like big moves, and if I'm being honest, I definately like big moves. Red doesn't do many here but he gets killed in an entertaining fashion. As I say, it's not bad, but it's not great either.

Xavier vs. Scoot Andrews

Oh aye. THIS fued. This match, like every other one, was bland as hell and I didn't care about it at all. Incidentally, this is the fued that set up Xavier for the title picture.

Boogie Nights vs. The Natural Born Sinners

Boogie Nights are two guys I can't remember. Natural Born Sinners are Homicide and Boogaloo. This is actually a good fun squash match with a pretty decent ending considering. Also had an ending which built to a later fued.

Quiet Storm vs. Chris Devine vs. Jose Maximo vs. Joel Maximo vs. Brian XL vs. The Amazing Red

Spots, spots and more spots. I still have great fun watching this match. The SAT are scary to watch though. It was the first time I seen the Spanish Fly, which is a great move. Kind of breaks down when there are less people in the match, which is kind of strange, so the last five minutes are pretty bland, but when all of them are there, it's fun.

Micheal Shane and Oz vs. Spanky and Ikaika Loa

Oz and Loa don't do much of anything here. This is clearly a spotlight for Spanky and Shane. In doing that, it was alright I guess, but Micheal Shane wouldn't be doing awesome stuff untill a few months down the line when he met with Paul London.

Super Crazy vs. Eddie Guerrero

Not as good as it could have been. Still good stuff though, as both guys are pretty damn good on their day. The ending had me a bit shocked though.

Low Ki vs. Christopher Daniels vs. American Dragon

I don't think it's a classic or anything, but this is a pretty good three way. There's some pretty good spots in there. My personal favourite being the Dragon Indian Deathlock spot. Also good to see Daniels getting a good kicking in the early days of ROH.

OVERALL

*******

It's not a great show by any stretch, but it's still half decent. I never used to be able to see the gap in quality between older shows and newer shows, but if this one is anything to go by, I might just find out. Good main event with some decent undercard action.

Onto the Round Robin Challenge that I finished with this afternoon.

Round Robin Challenge : Christopher Daniels vs. American Dragon

Ah, this is a goodie, with constant selling which actually moves onto the finish quite nicely. There wasn't enough Daniels cheapshotting in this match though, especially with the injury to Dragon, he could have done some pretty nasty things. The selling from Dragon is a highlight of what is a very good opener.

Prince Nana and Towel Boy vs. Da Hit Squad

I could have done without this. Then again, watching jobbers getting destroyed is fun. Especially when it's by big guys who know how to kill said jobbers. Big guys in case being Da Hit Squad, who just destroy the opposition, and then destroy the Christopher Street Connection who they gave a good kicking on the last show.

Joey Matthews and Christian York vs. CW Anderson and Elax

I actually like York. I also like Anderson to a degree. Elax is poor though and Matthews is bland. CW is made to look very good in this one. The match is sorta 'meh' though, as it was essentially York and Matthews vs. CW.

James Maritato vs. Xavier

No complaints here. This actually felt like a big win for the future champ without actually being pretty bland and meaningless like the Scoot Andrews matches. Sorry for the spoiler, but it had to be said. We also get to see Maritato kill Xavier with a Sicilian Drop on the floor.

Boogie Nights vs. The Natural Born Sinners

More tag team jobber action here. I guess it gets the teams over, but is there any need to have a fued with it ? I guess more rubber chicken is a good thing.

Low Ki vs. Christopher Daniels

People say that the first RRC match had more of a story, but I thought this had a pretty good story in itself, with Low Ki being a little more violent than usual with the disrespectful Daniels. This means that what we get is an entertaining bout with Daniels taking a hell of a beating, and we see more signs of a major heel after the match.

Paul London vs. Chris Marvel

Not much to be said here, other than Marvel gets his leg snapped. High risk moves indeed.

Spanky vs. Jay Briscoe

Ah, this is a good match. One which sees the blood actually add to the drama of the match. It seemed to work with the live crowd as well, as they egged him on to the end. A hidden gem on a show which has obvious matches that overshadow it.

SAT vs. The Amazing Red/Brian XL vs. Divine Storm

The show one match was good fun. This was just diabolical. More than 50% of the spots were botched, and therefore we have a considerable drop in quality. This might have something to do with SAT being actually team partners on this outing, which can't help a match quality.

Low Ki vs. American Dragon

I remember being disappointed by this. Which is odd, because when I watched it today, I loved it to bits. My only complaint would be the lack of neck selling from Dragon after the first match. That being said this was still a lot of fun. Took them a while to get to the really good stuff but that didn't stop the opening half of the match from being good too. Then it just went into the insanity at the end. I can finally see why this match got the high praise.

OVERALL

*******

Four of the matches on this card are actually really good, and there's another alright match with Maritato and Xavier. There sure is a lot of crap on this card though. Squash matches and the worst spotfest I've ever seen make this a bit of a chore at times, but it's worth it to get to the good stuff.

I see the Hartford event on the 24th August is now entitled 'Caged Rage'. Any ideas on what the main event will be for that? When was the last time ROH had a Scramble Cage match?

I can see the Philly Street Fight from DBD moving into the Cage in some way or form.Anyways, I'm moving onto Night of Appreciation. Appreciation for Eddie Guerrero I assume, who's in WWE at the time this show happened. Infact, he was the IC Champ when this show happened.Da Hit Squad vs. Christopher Street Connection vs. Prince Nana and ElaxOh god, not this again. Of course, it's always fun to see people getting seven shades of crap by them by Da Hit Squad, and this is no different thankfully. The other thing to be thankful for here is that it doesn't last very long. This actually looks something like the end of it all though, so I guess I have that to be thankful for, although I'm sure something happens on the next show. I might be wrong, we'll see.Tony Mamaluke vs. Jay BriscoeSome pretty good matwork gets this going. It's nothing new, but it's done at pretty fast speeds. There was lots going on in this match, but there didn't really seem to be any substance to it. I guess it wasn't bad.Divine Storm vs. Christian York and Joey MatthewsHey, this is actually not bad. I seen this getting slagged some places. It's a bit spotty but there's some cool double team tag stuff coming from both sides and a ton of effort, which can be appreciated. Plus, it has a rather nice finish to it.Xavier vs. Scoot Andrews vs. James MaritatoThis match is ... well, it's dull. Much like everything else that involves Andrews and Xavier pitting against each other. Even James Maritato throwing his weight around doesn't help much. Low Ki vs. AJ StylesFinally, a match which is great to watch. Both guys normally have good matches, so the quality of this one comes as no surprise. AJ Styles also pulls out one of the most frightening moves I've seen in a while. It was great to see Styles try and trade kicks with Ki and get absolutely nowhere as Ki would usually kill him with one. Best match of the show so far, and it's not exactly hard.Dunn and Marcos vs. The Carnage CrewAnd after that, it's business as usual. We have a squash with nothing of note.Christopher Daniels vs. Donovan MorganI'd consider this to be a fairly decent match. There was sure a lot of neck work in this match. I like it when people go after the neck. It means there's going to be some fun at the end of the match. Definately a highlight on this show.TWA Academy Gauntlet MatchThere's a guy in this match who there is absolutely no need for. It really should have been a four man match, as the exchanges between the last four guys were, in all, good for a gauntlet. The five guys were Spanky, Micheal Shane, Paul London, American Dragon and John Hope. Guess who the pointless one is ?SAT vs. Eddie Guerrero and The Amazing RedEddie is here and he has the IC Title with him, which is weird to see in ROH. This match is actually really good, which is a surprise for an SAT match, even if Eddie's in it. Then again, there's not as much high flying in this one as there usually is from the other three guys, so maybe Eddie had a big influence on the match after all. The Amazing Red in particular came off looking really good. OVERALL********Starting with Styles/Ki, this show is good. Starting at the start, you're in for a long haul. There's some progression in storyline. For instance, Jay/Mark and Xavier/Scoot, but one of them fueds isn't really worth your time anyways. Once again, I wouldn't recommend getting this show unless you really wanna see those final matches.
