Paid Members Surf Digby Posted June 9, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted June 9, 2008 True, but once he agrees to become a superhero (the "you deserve better" bit in the trailer), what's to stop it becoming just another superhero movie? Â Â Anyhow, I watched the director's cut of RoboCop. If anyone's bothered, the boxed set is
Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted June 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted June 9, 2008 I've obviously not seen the film yet but the producers are saying it's much darker and realistic than the trailer portrays it to be. We'll have to wait and see, I guess. It's still not as dark as the original script was, where he was a fucked up superhero who stole other people's wives and killed women with his powerful ejaculations.I repeat, what a powerful cum. ukedge87
I watched Scorsese's Cape Fear last night, starring De Niro (who else?), Nick Nolte and Juilette Lewis. I really enjoyed the film for the most, with Scorsese's homage to Hitchcock in terms of the shots and editing (although some of the shots really jar and just look out of place). Its a strange breed it works like a 1940s thriller with a 90's backdrop and context. I honestly think Nolte is one of the most under-rated actors of his generation and his performance in this film is enjoyable and very subtle compared to De Niro's excellent turn as the chilling Max Cady.Well worth the 50p I paid for it. Loki
I love Nolte, and totally agree that he's underused and underrated. I guess his personal problems have held him back from a more productive career. I don't know if you've seen The Good Thief, one of his most recent outings, but it was pretty good, and he was excellent, showing that he's still got a lot to give. And, boy, is he ever grizzled now. Paid Members LaGoosh Posted June 12, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2008 Just watched Gone Baby Gone. Ben Affleck's first movie and it's really fucking good. It stars his brother Casey(who turns in another great performance from The Assassination Of Jesse James) and features two always good actors Ed Harris and Morgan Freemon. The best performance is easily Amy Ryan (I always love seeing The Wire cast members getting work) who absolutely owns it. The basic plot is a little girl gets kidnapped from her bedroom and they go out to find her but it isn't as simple as that. It's a really great film pretty much from start to finish and doesn't spoon feed the audience any easy answers to the questions it raises. The ending will keep me thinking for a long time. Â Recommended.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted June 13, 2008 Paid Members Share Posted June 13, 2008 I watched Juno last night. I thought it was OK, I can't really see what the fuss was about. Liked the music, thought some of the dialogue was witty, well cast and acted but just a really bland story overall, I'm not quite sure what the point was. Was it a coming of age movie? Was it a love story? Was it a deep and meaningful about the point of life, conception and matters of the heart? No, no and er, no, I think, no. Â I don't think I'd watch it again. I did like the girl in the lead role, i thought she was really good, albet with pretty weak material.
SteelEdge
Watched Sweeney Todd again last nite after buying the dvd and thought it was even better than when I saw it at the cinema. It probably helps that i am a shameless Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan though lol. Also, upon watching the extras, i was shocked to realise i had no idea that Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter were married!!! Mr_Danger
Just watching the film review part of Newsnight and boy oh boy, is there anything worse than snobby poncey film reviewers. I think i'd value Paul Ross' reviews higher than these hacks. I also hate that tool who does the reviews on The Culture Show. Anybody else share my hatred for these film snobs, go review some art house if you want to deconstruct a film don't rip Hollywood bockbusters apart for being erm blockbustery. I absolutely can't stand him, always so desperate to be contrary and cool. I can't remember who said it, but there's that famous quote that's never more apt than when you're listening to Kermode go off on some contrived rant about the Pirates films, or something else popular, about no child ever responding to the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" with "a critic." NickKnack
The Condemned, freakin awesome, the WWE are quite good at this lark, I want to watch See No Evil now. Only people in the wrestling biz could have such deep, sick minds but yeah, the performances were excellent, it got rather dramatic towards the end, and I felt the bad guys were sort of bad ass so they we're likeable. But one thing was that how come the FBI couldn't just take the website off? Maybe the people doing had back up plans, protected the IP address somehow, I dunno. I wonder if reality TV will come to that eventually.
