Triple H Reviews

I actually really liked Murdoch, especially when he started the singing gimmick. If it hadn't been for Jillian Hall doing a singing thing for years by then, I think he could've done well with it. He had a really unique look for WWE too. Could've been an undercard mainstay. He wasn't great, but I'd take him over a million Shelton Benjamins, Tyson Kidds and Mason Ryans.

I only realised whilst writing that post that Cade and Murdoch were around for nearly three years in total, and two years even by that point. They did nothing of note. My only strong memory of their team is that they nearly killed Hurricane in their debut.

Definitely agree, although wasn't so much a fan of the singing gimmick. I'd have just liked him to play the dirty, sleazy redneck trucker he resembled. "She gat a purdy lil' ass, ah seen it."

stone-cold-vs-triple-h-no-way-out-2001.jpg

After a year out through injury with a broken neck, Stone Cold returned in September and ran roughshod over everybody trying to track down the man who ran him over at Survivor Series '99. Rikishi was eventualy revealed to be the culprit behind the wheel, but Triple H was then revealed as the man who orchestrated the whole thing!

Donning those very gloves, HHH turned on him in a tag match and leathered him with Sledgy.

They already met in the main event of Survivor Series '00, which finished when Austin dropped HHH and his car on it's arse in the parking lot...

Only for our boy to return two weeks later without a scratch! The feud continued going into the 6-man Hell in a Cell at Armageddon, and then into the Royal Rumble PPV. Austin Stunned HHH out of a potential WWF title win, and HHH returned the favour by beating seven shades of shit out of him before he could even start his Rumble stint.

Alas, Austin still won the Rumble and he'll face The Rock at Wrestlemania X7. But first, he's got some personal business to attend to. So personal that Vince orders them to abide by a zero tolerance policy where they can't touch each other until the PPV. They try all sorts of mind games to get into the head of the other, including Stephanie taking a stunner.

They did get to fight on Smackdown breifly after some confusion in a tag match where HHH was shoved into Austin. It was allowed, because HHH DID make contact with Austin allowing him to retaliate, but the shove was accidental.

With that said, here's the promo vid to hype up the match. It's one of the best they've ever done for me, brilliant hype.

Fall One- Traditional wrestling match.

Trips is out first, already sporting his Motorhead theme which he continues to use to this day. While he strolls down to the 20x20, the latest WWF theme CD is plugged.

Speaking of great music, Disturbed's cover of Austin's theme was in use here too.

Fink is on top form with the announcing duties.

Great review Nick. I also remember that match being extremely brutal, there were times when I'm sure I had to look away. I was on Triple H's side, though - didn't much care about Austin's revenge as I hadn't watched much in '99, and thought he'd acted a bit of a twat since he'd come back in 2000, so didn't much care if he won or not! Plus the whole dropping the car from the crane at Survivor Series 2000 was totally excessive and uncalled for. HE COULD HAVE KILLED HIM. Stupid Austin.

Very much agree with this. The match was brutal and the ending was perfect. I was a massive Helmsley fan around this time and remember loving that he won, especially as I was watching the show with a friend who was a massive Austin fan and had spent the whole day at school 'reminding' everyone how amazing Austin was and that he would definitly win (we had a no spoilers until Tuesday rule).

I hated the survivor series ending - a 30 minute match and then that finish. I know the point was for a violent revenge but I remember feeling really let down by it at the time which was a shame because I (vaguely) remember it being a pretty decent event, or at least I remember enjoying it up until that point. I think my main issue was thinking 'theres no way they're going to let him drop a car on it's roof with a guy inside it'

This is a quality thread so far. I was reading back through the earlier reviews last night and went and dug Summerslam '02 out of the DVD cupboard to watch the unsanctioned match and ended up watching most of the event. I'd completely forgotten how good a show it was.

Yeah, I think we can all agree that the Survivor Series 2000 finish was absolute balls. I always remember No Way Out 2001 fondly, but I haven't watched any of it for ages. I'll have to track it down if this match is as good as Nick says. Or dig out the old VHS taped from Sky, which I still have somewhere.

It's in the link right at the bottom of the entry. It's actually part 3 of an upload of the whole show, which is a blinding PPV in its own right.

Fucking hell...I just had my review typed up and ready to go until my laptop spazzed out and closed the window. Boom. No review.

*sigh* I've got the screengrabs I wanted to use so it should be pretty easy to get another one written up, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow or Tuesday.

On the plus, I ordered the Street Fight boxset from Silvervision last week. When that arrived, I noticed it had the HHH/HBK street fight on it and went straight to that. Well worth the wait and a fantastic match. At least I can say I've seen that one now.

Despite how great of a match the Three Stages of Hell was, my abiding memory of it will always be something Nick has actually left out - poor old Austin getting twatted on the head with a (seemingly-full) beer can launched from the crowd (presumably at HHH) just after the cage was lifted. Poor bastard, after all he'd been through...

I must apologise for the tardiness of my review - I was unexpectedly sent to a conference this week, so ended up getting drunk in Birmingham for 3 days instead of doing it. I'm on leave the tail end of the coming week though, so I'll definitely have it sorted by then.

About 42:37 on the video Nick linked, if anyone fancies a look. After a 40-minute match, that must've sucked.
