  1. Past hour
  2. Isn't it also a variant of the Network storyline? I never caught it at the time, but from what I could figure out, it seems like that. Assuming they just make the interfering figure "the Athletic Commission representative", rather than specifically Oklahoma's (think they could be sued if they did), it's definitely a story that would be both interesting and effective in its satire. Maybe they could even fake up a body and call it the "Oklahoma Sports Association"? Make the entire state the villain. That would be some supreme shithousery right there. Mind you, JR might oppose it - but if he's up for it, make him the rep or the liaison for it.
  3. I think you know very well that any amount of time spent thinking about how it could've ended is too much.. i can tell you how it should've ended though; canned after the pilot.
  4. I don’t mind that as much as something just getting cancelled without any resolution whatsoever. Some shows do a sort of half and half season ending so if it does get canned, there is at least some resolution albeit a rather milquetoast one. But I’m sure that, much like Chest, I’ve spent too many hours wondering how 2 Broke Girls would’ve and/or should’ve ended.
  5. It is very irritating when you invest your time in to something and then they don't give you a resolution. I want stories tied up. I hope open ended endings. I don't want to use my brain to interpret an ending, I want you to tell me, it's your story, not mine.
  6. They're both great imo but Monkey Man just edges out in front for me, I think it's definitely a more enjoyable film while Civil War gets pretty fucking harrowing.
  7. Creasy’s art is death and he was about to paint his masterpiece before you turned it off! If I remember correctly the whole point of the slow start of that film is showing Creasy’s relationship with Dakota Fanning develop so when the shit does hit the fan you feel it more. I remember really liking it, plus the Christopher Walken bit I’ve beautifully paraphrased at the top.
  8. So the mother-in-law is comig on Sunday and I've been given the afternoon off, I want to go to the cinema. I'm currently deciding to between either Monkey Man or Civil War...what say you UKFF? I rarely get the chance to go to the cinema these days so I have to get my picks right to avoid crushing disappointment.
  9. I watch a lot of TV and my wife gets so annoyed if we watch something that doesn't have a proper ending. It's almost as if I have to watch it first to veto the bloody thing or not.
  10. 40 minutes is absolutely too long to build an action film. It’d be like Commando if it was 40 minutes of Arnie eating ice cream and petting deers with his kid.
  11. Today
  12. I can also confirm that that Kingdom Come Deliverance is a tremendous game, and an absolute steal at the moment given the price and staggering amount of content. I mentioned in another thread that RDR2 was the closest Old West enthusiasts would come to experiencing that short period on history. In a similar way, I think KCD is an unmatched way to get a taste of medieval life, and its a good alternative to all the mage build dragon bollocks you find elsewhere. I'm buzzing after watching that trailer. If theyre able to build on what they've done previously, and perhaps add a bit of polish to some of the systems and mechanics I think it'll be a big success.
  13. Few things recently. Robot Dreams (cinema) Lovely little mostly-silent animation about a world of animals, and a dog who buys a robot friend. All about joy and bittersweet sadness, etc. Beautifully made. My partner and I did a rare Everyman for this one, which made it feel like a treat. Immaculate (cinema) Liked it rather than loved it. I liked that they went there for the ending, but it faltered in places for me. Sydney Sweeney was good, but I wanted the whole thing to be more Suspiria-style lurid. The few flashes of colour and abstract stuff really worked, and I'd have loved more of that. The Last Omen The Omen is one of my favourite horror films (and the first proper grown-up one I watched). And while it's not in the same league, I really liked it. Ralph Ineson is, once again, brilliant in a horror film, and it just overall worked better for me than Immaculate. It's surreal that two such similar films came out a week apart though. Mute Witness (shudder) Odd little film, about a woman with total speech impairment - she's working in a horror film in Russia, and starts being stalked after she witnesses a murder. It's not great, but it has a whole bunch of really good bits. And an odd cast - Fay Ripley plays the best friend, and Alec Guinness has a cameo (filmed separately, years before) and it's his last credited film role. Has a great scene involving a type-talk phone, and a genuinely funny bit of exploitative nudity. . Late Night with the Devil AI-nonsense aside, this was really fun. Could have been more subtle by the end, and it would have been better going back to the documentary-style... but when it works, it really works, and has some cracking moments in it. And it's funny too. "He died." "You mean he bombed?" "No."
  14. The first 40 minutes is the build to the rest of the movie when everything kicks off so maybe keep going with it. I haven't seen it in years but I remember it being pretty fun.
  15. McIntyre done an interview last month where he said that coming off the back of his run during the pandemic, he got a sense that what he was doing wasn't a good fit anymore and needed to evolve. In his words people were happy to see him wearing the same hat, but he felt he couldn't stand still and needed to add layers to what he was doing. Obviously he's been given the leeway and opportunity to take things in a slightly different direction, and I don't know to what extent that would apply to everyone else, but it was interesting that after feeling he was off the boil for a relatively small amount of time he wasn't satisfied with staying in a comfortable rut. Sheamus hit that barrier a long time ago, and even if he did feel that he needed to take it up a level and tried to do something about it, he hasn't been able to do it successfully and that's the difference between guys like Sheamus and someone who's must watch. As has been noted above too, his identity is a bit of a caricature in that most of the time it's the merry fighting Irishman whereas McIntyre's Scottishness is a bit more gladiatorial. I like Sheamus, he's had an exceptional career and he's got great matches in him. I can take him or leave him though, and I think we seen everything he had to offer a while ago.
  16. I'm in a weekly "bad movie" watchalong thing that started during Covid, where everyone nominates a film each week, and then what we watch is decided on the roll of a dice. Last night's was Starslammer a.k.a. Prison Ship a.k.a. The Adventures Of Taura: Prison Ship Star Slammer. It's a strong contender for not necessarily being the worst film I've ever seen, but certainly one of the most unpleasant. It jumps between sci-fi parody and borderline softcore porn women's prison stuff, and every bit of dialogue is either misogynistic as hell or a punchline with no joke - at one point the warden of the prison does an "oxygen masks will fall from above you" joke, but they're not on a plane, and she's not an air steward, so why? Similarly, there's an ill-defined space emperor type bloke who was clearly never on set at the same time as any of the main cast as he never interacts with any of them, and he ends one of his video broadcasts by saying "that oughta hold the little bastards" - the same urban legend referenced by Gabbo in The Simpsons - but it's just meaningless in this context, just a reference for it's own sake. Speaking of not being on set at the same time as anyone else, John Carradine shows up on a green screen for one scene, because I think he just naturally occurs once a film is bad enough, you don't have to even film him, just when you start editing he'll be there. Imagine the scripts he turned down. I couldn't even tell you what the plot was. It had Johnny Legend - wrestler, founder of Incredibly Strange Wrestling, rockabilly musician, brother of Andy Kaufman's girlfriend - as a kind of space wizard, and it's some of the worst acting I've ever seen. I found out this morning that the director, Fred Olen Ray, was also a wrestler, under the name Fabulous Freddie Valentine.
  17. I remember you championing this game and the historical accuracy of it. Hope this one is as enjoyable for you!
  18. I am absolutely buzzing for this. THAT is how you do a game announcement. Presented by cast members, hearing from key members of the production team and the director, announced to be out by the end of the year and not years down the line like some bigger studios...and all filmed inside Kuttenberg Cathedral! I rave about my love for Kingdom Come at any given opportunity but if you haven't played the first one yet, the Royal edition (with all DLC) is currently the princely sum of ÂŁ3.79 on the PS store. That is astronomically good value for such a wonderful game with hundreds of hours of content.
  19. Shinjiro Otani's theme is amazing. Creepy Untertaker-esque footsteps followed by pure Japanese joy. Please listen. He also carries a massive katana to the ring for... reasons. Should start at his theme, otherwise go to 42:03
  20. I can't wait for his gimmick change into Bullshit Man. He walks out during the middle of a Jericho segment...
  21. I usually have to choose our “Show before bed” viewing and it fills me with dread. If something has loads of episodes and didn’t get canned without a proper ending, I go for that so I can go over 100 days before having to choose again!
  22. Just wanted to come on here to say that the new Transformer's ONE movie trailer is the biggest pile of steaming shit imaginable and I hate it. Have a nice weekend everyone.
  23. Man on Fire We watched the first two Equalizers on Netflix and thought they were pretty enjoyable so moved on to another Denzel film as Equalizer 3 isn’t on Netflix yet. I can only speak for the first 40 minutes as we turned it off after absolutely fuck all happened for the full 40. An action/thriller with no action for nearly the first full hour. Yawn. The editing is headache inducing as well. Constant quick cuts and filters and rubbish camera angles. It’s like watching Raw at it’s worst but with awful early 2000s greeny brown filters over everything. Maybe it gets good but I’m not investing that much time into it to find out.
  24. I think there's a golden opportunity here to rehash an old NWA title finish - let's make the Athletic Commissions a heel entity that we can use in the story and have them intervene and stop one of Moxley's matches because he's bleeding. Shambolic treatment of Nyla though it's been... I'd use it, if she's OK with it.
  25. Yeah Dev went out of his way to make sure they had such positive representation, he's been really outspoken in interviews since, too. I love that Anwar is the one from Skins that's doing the best in Hollywood.
