  2. That’s a little different though, and it’s discussing the subject in a broader sense as opposed to specifically in connection with wrestling. And I think there are important points that could be discussed further here - for example, the fact Tony Khan hasn’t addressed it publicly. Not one main event wrestler - as far as I can tell - has said anything publicly to support Nyla. It’s also not the first time a trans person has faced discrimination in wrestling - look at Rick Steiner’s behaviour towards Giselle Shaw, for example; or the transphobic signs aimed at Nyla at previous AEW shows. If this was almost any other form of discrimination, it would - rightly - have sparked a visible response of condemnation; and possibly a cross-company one. But there’s almost a quiet acceptance of this, or perhaps even a normalisation of it. We’re talking about - in this case - a discriminatory barrier that has the potential to stop someone (not just Nyla) from earning a living in a fictional sport. And no one of status within that sport is brave enough to say anything about it - that’s big enough to merit wider discussion, I think. Hopefully it’s being handled quietly behind the scenes with the hope of making this barrier go away.
  3. The woke thread is there for people who want (and currently are) discussing the topic in broad strokes.

  5. I’m not even sure that was the case. All In was on ITV4 and repeated again on ITV 1. WrestleDream only got the ITV4 treatment which I assume would be down to views. But ITV Box Office was built around Boxing. AEW was just more content, but the boxing bombed to the point they felt it wasn’t worth keeping it open, AEW be damned. And it wasn’t a bad thing for us, because ITV Box Office only got you the PPV for the week. Fire/Triller you can go back and watch them whenever you want, much better value.
  6. I really hope their pretending to laugh heartily because the woman's said "You wait all day for a prick in a suit and three come along at one".
  7. I simply cannot anymore. There needs to be an intervention. We all shouldn’t be punished for eternity, just because Jericho doesn’t want to go home to his nutcase MAGA wife for an extended period of time. Just get a divorce, Chris. You hope Jericho was watching that opening segment. Moxley went away for weeks and it already felt exciting and novel to have him back. It’s not rocket science and requires little to no effort. You can even give those poor bastards at the trademark office a break. Just fuck off for a bit, please! Alas, I’ve given up hope. It won’t happen. I reckon we’re three weeks from him trademarking, “Jericho needs to fuck off.” It was a good go-home show. Everything settling back down after two weeks of their heads falling off because of CM Punk. The momentum’s not there like it could have been, but still a positive sign to see them steady the ship again. Who knew that ignoring people in other companies and just cracking on could produce positive results?! Really good mixed tag. Copeland had some great hoss chemistry with Brodie King. They should do a singles match. Brilliantly fun spots when Willow came out and started diving on Brodie, too. She rules. Strap her up. Interesting the way they had Copeland nod and shake hands with Mercedes. Hopefully what Copeland has been doing is contagious because he and Mercedes couldn’t be more different right now. Copeland is doing all this new, interesting, exciting stuff, whereas Mercedes is very slowly dying on her arse. She looks the absolute business - the rainbow hair from this week may have been the best look yet - but fuck me if there’s nothing there beyond the look and ability to carry yourself like a star. Weeks and weeks of bad, NXT-style promos. Each time they release a, “WE HEAR FROM MERCEDES,” graphic it’s sounding more and more like a threat. It’s the pits. I had to check Wikipedia to confirm, and was not surprised to see Mercedes hasn’t had much of a career beyond NXT and WWE. It seems ingrained in her. Like it’s all she knows. That WWE cadence and rhythm, where everything half rhymes. It stands out as so fake and shit in AEW. The phoney, robotic delivery is only compounded by the crappy, spooky, attacked-in-the-dark storyline. I thought we’d all admitted this Scooby Doo shit belongs in the bin? MJF’s career nosedived trying to make it work in this environment. We had to do a whole G1 tournament to distract everyone from it! Have we learnt nothing? The idea of Mercedes keeping this up, doing these bad promos, crappy acting and not wrestling until the end of May sounds absolutely dreadful. Instant return to form for The New Elite. Great match, fun character work, excellent dickhead-ery. I laughed out loud at Mathew still talking into the microphone as he got suplexed. I saw The Bucks were teasing a surprise at Dynasty. I assume Jack Perry joins The Elite after helping them win the ladder match. Providing they keep the Punk stuff to a minimum and focus on being So Cal Twats, I think it’ll work. Perry looked like a superstar on that New Japan show. Bryan Danielson doing a Bunkhouse Brawl the night before his dream match pay per view headliner. Never change, Bryan. Fantastic match between Ospreay and Claudio. It remains amazing how quickly Ospreay has adapted and became such a complete North American pro-wrestler. Superstar. Great night for Swerve. Good promo and then an amazing spot where he took out everyone with a stomp before landing on his feet. Top guy stuff. It’s time to pull the trigger. Learn from WWE. Pull the trigger when the time is right. We always knew the right time to pull the trigger on Cody was Wrestlemania 40. Definitely not Wrestlemania 39. Same applies here. You can taste it. It’s now or never. Nothing less than a Swerve victory will suffice on Sunday! But yeah. Almost goes without saying. Full support for Nyla, who’s great, massively under-utilised and an absolute hoot on Twitter. This should kickstart a new push.

  10. I should have known that I’d find Immaculate disappointing after I heard Kermode rave about it. Typical nun based horror with plot points which seem to be mentioned but soon forgotten about. Not Sydney Sweeney’s finest hour (and 30 minutes).

  13. ITV Box Office side I think helped get them on TV with them. Cheap filler content on ITV4 with the occasional bit of cashflow coming back through PPVs. As its not like ITV Box Office had much in the way of content. It was a handful of boxing matches. I think all 3 PPVs were on it before it closed. Double or Nothing getting the most promotion. If there hadn't been the idea there could be a financial return from PPVs. I'm not sure they would have taken on Dynamite.
  14. I have a half-arsed theory that All In did great numbers, so they tried again with WrestleDream and it didn't do what they wanted it to do because the interest wasn't there as it would be with a Wembley show. They didn't put World's End on either, if I recall correctly. Shame ITV Box Office tanked as I'm certain snagging AEW must've been a big part of their strategy for that. They had at least one PPV on there, I'm sure.
  15. Been watching this guy’s interviews for a while now and really enjoying them. Especially when he has wrestlers on who you don’t see doing interviews that much anymore. The latest being Perry Saturn… Good to see Saturn getting about and doing stuff like this again. Wasn’t there stories that he’d completely gone off the grid and nobody had heard off him not too long ago? He looks healthier here than the last time I saw him as well. He looked like really gaunt and sick at one point. Not sure about the Seth Armstrong ‘tache but it’s nice to see that he seems in good spirits here.

  17. The story of the SNP over the past two decades is one of the most incredible rides in modern political history. It would have been better to have kept a guy like Salmond inside the tent and pissing out, rather than being left with a bunch of individuals who are inside the tent but continually pissing all over the tent and each other.

  19. Zo, the Oz short film featuring Beecher & O’Reily post-Oz and which was only previously available as part of the ATX TV Festival back in the pandemic, is coming to YouTube on May 1st As some of you know I do the Inside Oz Podcast (S4BE15 - Even The Score will be available tomorrow), so I’m super stoked that I finally get to see this as it means the pod can have its rightful conclusion. I had previously been in touch with Tom Fontana about acquiring a copy, but it was during the writer’s strike so he wasn’t talking to anybody and there was already some “legal issues” preventing a release

On balance I think that social media has not been a force for good and has forced a wedge in society that seems to be widening. There was definitely a ‘sweet spot’ for the internet. When it broadened horizons, provided us with wikipedia and search engines but your mum and Sandra next door hadn’t discovered Facebook yet. Broadcast media and the printed press was far from perfect and there have always been red and blue newspapers. But when you consider how much of a platform social media has given to utter cranks, it makes you pine for a time that they didn’t have a platform at all. In 1994 Laurence Fox, rather than having half a million Twitter followers, would have been a guest on an obscure late night James Whale cable show or stood on a soapbox in an inner London park with people looking on in bemusement. The 1960’s Heath government decriminalised and legalised a lot of things, including gay sex. The direction of travel was clear and people generally followed. Its hard to see such liberal and seismic (for the time) legislation enjoying a free ride in this climate. There was a time when people at least tried to pretend they were ‘hip’ and forward thinking, despite what they may say behind closed doors. But now you can find someone that will share your opinions on anything, which usually has an emboldening effect. You think the earth is flat? Well here’s the Fb group for you buddy…
