NEWM
How a lot of us used to watch WWF, I'm sure: Â Lovely find. And as we all know, if you stared hard enough for long enough, you could make the shapes of the wrestlers out.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 The scrambling on the German channels like Premiere was better as you could definitely see some movement during the porn. The Sky scrambling gave you nothing.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 Tell you what? You know that feeling you get when you download a PPV for free and you go "fuck you 'The Man'"? Well, when the Sky would get cut off or my Mam said "its just UK Gold and Granada Plus this month", watching wrestling on DSF was exactly the same feeling. It was a nice fuck you to BSkyB. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 Yeah. Plus you often got stuff on the German channels we didn't get. The RTL2 versions of Mania and Superstars were far better.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted March 6, 2012 Moderators Share Posted March 6, 2012 Analogue satellite wrestling memories? Yes please! Â WCW FANPOWER! (About 15 videos of this as well)
King Pitcos
I'm sure this stuff wasn't on Birmingham Cable. All we got was adverts for Capricorn Blinds. Closest I got to any of that DSF goodness was watching what must have been Chinese wrestling on Eurosport, unless Otto Wanz had a TV deal, and I don't recall the matches being in a tent. It was around 1991/92 and Fit Finlay and Too Cold Scorpio were the only ones I can remember.
NEWM
ANALOGUE SKY-BASED DID YOU KNOW!: Sky still use the same music for the "Watch this show again on Sky Box Office when it's repeated 80 fucking times across the week" screensaver that they used all those years ago on Sky Sports when you'd accidentally fall asleep during the Owen Hart match on a PPV and wake up at 5:30am wondering if Steve Austin held on to the belt or not. Â That music makes me think of being a kid, being overly cold when you wake up and that sore tired-eye-bleed sensation you get when you know it's fucking Monday and you've got a whole week to go. And you've got fucking double Maths first thing. Shite.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 I still have fond memories of bumbling around DSF's teletext to see if there was a WCW PPV on Saturday night. I'm sure their numbers went backwards when the page was being searched for, too, which was odd. Â I didn't and don't speak a word of German, but from the way they sounded, the German commentators always sounded like they were probably really good. They seemed to know their moves, anyway. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 WCW had its own Sky Text page on TNT's channel as well. Every Friday, type the code in and it would give you a competition to win WCW vs the World and list the matches for that nights Nitro. Always with the spelling incorrect. "Jerry Flynt vs Scott Morton" and shit like that. Â DSF and Sky Text. You cant go back
King Pitcos
The Paramount Comedy Channel used to have a sort of Teletext message board that was often wrestling-based, oddly enough. You'd "post" by phoning and leaving a message and then the page's editor would transcribe it in the twice-weekly updates. There were feuds on there and everything. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 The bird in the third one down - is that pubic hair or pants? Being German, probably the former.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted March 6, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted March 6, 2012 I remember when my mum and dad got upgraded to digital. The initial excitement was short lived once I realised that you could get about 1000 channels, but none of the German analogue ones were on there. I once spent ages fucking about in the settings trying to figure out if you could programme those channels back in. I don't think you could.
