Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted January 25, 2015 Awards Moderator Share Posted January 25, 2015 Incredibly no thread exists for this yet... Â Â It's that time of year when wrestlers start pointing at WrestleMania signs hanging from the ceiling and my favourite PPV, the Royal Rumble! Â We have weird trivia in the form of not one singles match booked on the card since Survivor Series 1988,so some bloke on the Internet told me. Â Here's the matches as scheduled: Â The Royal Rumble match: Judging from chatter elsewhere on the forum, for once WWE have played a good hand in not telegraphing one obvious winner. There are likely candidates in Daniel Bryan or Roman Reigns. But on the second tier we have Seth Rollins and Randy Orton as outsider chances. And you can never discount John Cena as a safety booking option at any time. Â Â Lesnar v Cena v Rollins for the WWE Heavyweight title: looked like a straight Brock triple tonking until Rollins was inserted. Having a Money in the Bank holder really muddies the result here. Equally some Sting interference can't be discounted. Â Â Usos vs Miz & Mizdow for the tag titles: surely the stunt double act has run its course and we get a full on split tease here? The actual match itself, meh, seen it a hundred times already. Â Â Natalya & Paige vs The Bellas: gotta collect the rent from E! Network I guess. Will probably be botchy but ok, ends with a roll up. Â Â New Age Outlaws in 2015 vs The Ascension: I bloody hate the NAO and I hope they destroy the Ascension, that's how good their NXT callup has been. Match will probably be on a level of Brothers of Destruction vs Kronik. Â Plus the kickoff show will have the black-and-blue New Day vs Adam Rose and two falling stars. Â What are you looking forward to most? Predictions?
King Pitcos
The undercard is a load of nothing but the top two matches have been really well built. Regardless of the quality of the TV show most weeks, it's got us to a title match where you could see it going multiple ways. Since Rollins had that cracking week where he stood up to Lesnar, I've seen him as a totally credible champion. He's grown into the spot now. But having Brock lose it here, in a three-way to a baddie or Cena, is basically just fucking off the breaking of the streak -- which if Bryan's winning the belt at Mania anyway, doesn't matter so much. Â I'm slightly edging towards a Brock win. I'm not sure what Brock Lesnar does at WrestleMania without the belt, whereas I find it hard to imagine Cena being in the title match that night and I could easily see Orton vs Rollins as a grudge match in the middle of the card. Â And the Rumble has two strong candidates, which is one more than we get most years. Throw in a couple of others who could win for a swerve, and some nostalgia surprises, and it could well be one of the best ever. It should definitely come down to Bryan and Reigns fighting it out for a while, like the Undertaker/Michaels year.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted January 25, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted January 25, 2015 The Rock's tweeted a picture of him in Philly. If he's doing the match with Rusev, that blows it open again. If Rusev wrestles the Rock, then Cena's probably winning the belt and facing the winner of the Rumble. Unless they do Rock vs Brock. I think they might feel they need the Rock this year. There's not many matches I'm seeing with the big WrestleMania feel to them. If its Reigns vs Brock, Cena vs Rusev and Bryan vs ??? I dont know how interesting that is to me. They really fucked themselves beating the Undertaker. His matches was always a bit special. Â Obviously Rock could in Philly because he's filming a movie and doing nothing at WrestleMania, but I'm just throwing that out here. Knowing Vince is mad these days, I wouldnt be stunned if Orton wins it. He returns and Vince is going "they'll love this, go and paint a bus and call it the Orton Express". King Pitcos
Orton's already got the bus! Â They could really have done with Cena vs The Streak this year. In hindsight, they should have done Undertaker vs Cena at WrestleMania last year and had Bray Wyatt (after beating the Shield earlier in the show) clatter Taker after the match to set up a match for this year. I don't know what that would have left for Brock Lesnar to do, like, and there was always the uncertainty of whether Undertaker had another match in him, but still. Â Rock vs Rusev seems pretty dead in the water to me after the way their thing went on Raw the other month. Completely cut Rusev's balls off, and I'd imagine a WrestleMania build doing that even more. If Rock's taking bumps in 2015, I can't see it being for a bloke who mostly just wrestles Jack Swagger. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted January 25, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted January 25, 2015 Maybe Rock might be coming back to put his cousin over. Which could be great for Reigns to get a massive win over a big star to set him up for a title win next year ... or he could end up looking like the Big Show did in 1999/00 where Rock just slapped him down on the mic not realising how bad he was exposing him. Its just the way things are at the minute. There's positives and negatives in all the potential matches.
King Pitcos
I wonder if they'd do Rock vs Reigns yet. It's not impossible to picture them saying to Reigns "we're going with Bryan for the Rumble, but we've gone one better for you..."
Shane O' Mac Version 2
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns means Reigns would have to turn heel, which I really like. Think about it- Austin, Rock, Cena, Punk- all had strong runs as heels before being established as main event faces. Â Of course, still no guarantee that they wouldn't just have Reigns as the smiley joker when he goes back to being a main event face, but at least it could be prolonged. Paid Members quote the raven Posted January 25, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted January 25, 2015 The under card is so so so meh apart from the title match. Â The philly crowd is always fun regardless of who they boo or cheer at least they will be into it. Starting to get a really nasty feeling about Orton winning. Guest
Or rock vs Lesnar as was the plan for last year ? Brock loses title, rock comes out to cut a promo, Brock blind sides him and lays down a beating
WyattSheepMask
Has anyone placed a bet this year. Gone with Daniel Bryan over at Paddy Power at 7/4 (each way places 1&2 paying 1/4 odds)
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted January 25, 2015 Awards Moderator Share Posted January 25, 2015 In the scenario that they go with Lesnar vs Bryan (and I'm still pulling for Lesnar vs Reigns as the way to go) I wonder whether Lesnar himself will enter the Rumble. I can see a scenario where Lesnar gets in, lays waste to loads of people, but Bryan valiantly fights back, and tips Lesnar over the ropes, but the momentum carries him over as well. Lesnar gets mad, smashes the paste out of Bryan on the outside. You set up a reason for them to have a match, and take Bryan out of the Rumble in such a way that the crowd hopefully won't reject the winner. Â Saying that, perhaps you could do that same scenario, with a few tweaks, with Reigns. Lesnar enters, lays waste, Roman Supermans Brock out but momentum takes him too, they brawl outside. You can then have Lesnar vs Reigns, with Reigns beating the one who put the one etc, and not have to worry about it being a title match, giving him a big potential Mania moment but still having Bryan win the Rumble. Â Or Orton just wins it.
Paid Members quote the raven Posted January 25, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted January 25, 2015 Brock needs to not lose at the rumble. If you have to change champs then get one of the others to take the pinfall. This might be why they added Rollins to the main event.  That would free up Brock to put over someone on his way out without having to put the title on them on the grand stage.  They try and push Orton vs Rollins for the title i will probably cry. Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Awards Moderator Share Posted January 25, 2015 I know he's pretty busted up but if he's not too busy getting monogrammed t shirts and doing ice bucket challenges could the Undertaker appear? Even just to grimace at a potential opponent?
Glass Smash
I hope they don't do another Edge from 2010 with Orton. As long as Rollins is holding the MITB briefcase it wouldn't make sense for him to win the title unless it's via a cash in.
Undefeated Steak
I can't remember a year where everything was so up in the air. I bet even WWE don't decide on which way to go until 30 minutes before the show.
