Mr. Seven
Greetings.

Whilst compiling my top 100 songs list, I thought this place could use a thread specifically dedicated to uploading one (or more if you really want) song each day, for the benefit/interest/annoyance of others. I always find myself listening to a specific song deliberately more than once per day, so I've decided to upload whatever song I am currently in love with, and I encourage you all to do the same. I don't care what you want to upload, be it pop, rock, metal, drum and bass, novelty, whatever, it doesn't matter. This isn't the Elitist Music Thread (not that there's anything wrong with that fine thread), so there's no boundaries with which to stick to.

I'd like for this thread to be a success, mostly because I'm always on the lookout for new or unheard music, so hopefully this will take off. Even if it doesn't, I'll still upload at least one song each day if I'm able to do so. If anybody wants to upload a song but is unsure of how to do so, I find Sendspace to be very straightforward and easy to use.

Feedback and discussion appreciated and encouraged.

With that said, today's song is:

The National - Mr. November

It's really uplifting and quite brilliant. Enjoy.
Vito
Eiko Shimamiya - Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

A shorter version of this song was used as the theme for the rather excellent TV show Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni.

Nice idea for a thread.

Been getting in the mood for the new El-P album by listening to his older stuff today. This is one of my favourites -

El-P - Stepfather Factory
fairy_jasmine18
Disenchanted - My Chemical Romance

The music sums up my mood today!!
Miamivenis
I'm looking forward to seeing how obscure Vito's choices become as the days go on.

Still, nice idea for a thread, have a little taste of Günther.

You're welcome.

Faithless - Bombs
Parkamarka
I've been into Tom Waits forever, and have been listening to 'Small Change', one of his earlier albums, a lot recently. This is one of my favourite Waits tracks, a beat-poet inspired scat about an imaginary product that does/doesn't do any/everything:

Tom Waits - Step Right Up

Tom Waits is all kinds of awesome.
Weezage
One of my favourite songs by possibly the best band to exist in years.

If you don't like this, you are dead inside.

BTMI! - Future 86
Vamp
I think this is a brilliant idea, but can I suggest maybe informing everyone what musical genre each track is from? Just so people at least have some clue of what they're about to listen to, and arn't shocked when it's Dutch house mixed with Bolivian rap?

The Sleepy Jackson - Rain Falls For Wind

Genre: Rock / Indie Rock

"Rain Falls for Wind" is a convincing facsimile of moody '80s college rock.

From The Album:

Born Against- Janelle

Erm.. punk rock. Specifically hardcore, quite melodic.

Born Against- Murder the Sons of Bitches

Bit heavier, groovier and slower.

Did quite enjoy your song Weezage- couldn't help but be moved when the sax's hit smile.gif.

Haha! Brilliant....

Here's mine - Quasimoto - Privacy. It's only a minute and change, so give it a listen.....

I'm liking that Sleepy Jackson song the best so far.

Tokyo Police Club - Nature Of The Experiment

Kinda indie, kinda punky, short and sweet.
PC316
Banner Pilot - Uptown Sleep Solution

Awesome band from America - sort of sound like a mix between Dillinger 4, Screeching Weasel and Hot Water Music. If any band is a candidate to get signed to FAT, No Idea or any other big punk label in the next year, it's these guys. Check them out.
Teedy Kay
Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip - Thou shalt always kill

Nice little tune I heard the other day!
SpursRiot2012
The Impression That I Get - Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Been listening to this a lot.

Genre: Ska.
Weezage
I don't think people should put down genres.

There's a chance people will go 'Nah, I'm not gonna listen to punk/metal/rap/etc'.
bAzTNM#1
My favourite eighties song. Animotion - "Obsession"

http://www.sendspace.com/file/kbveuy

Genre: Dunno, 80s keyboard song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz_dBrvGSxw - Theres the song being used for "Saturday Nights Main Event" in 1986.

No they definitely should. I'm not going to download every single song in this thread so I may aswell go by the genre's I like rather than just hoping it's nota genre I don't personally enjoy eg. indie and emo.

Here's mine:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/zorpzr

ytcracker - nerdrap.entertainment.system

Genre: Rap/Super Nintendo

This is a rare rap song by an unsigned artist who uses computer game music for his beats and the results of this is the song above which is one of the happiest rap songs you'll ever hear. Even if rap ain't your thing, I recommend giving it a try as it is great fun.
Parkamarka
I'm not down with having to assign a specific genre to everything - it's against the spirit of discovering new music to have to be able to pigeonhole everything with something else - but some description of what the song's like and why it appeals to you is definitely a plus.

Malcolm Middleton - We're All Going To Die

This is the opener off ex-Arab Strap ginger Malcolm Middleton's new album. It's a kinda new-wavey fast pop song with lyrics that may be parodying Arab Strap's wrist-slitting reputation. Definitely the most upbeat song ever to have the line "You're gonna die alone" in the chorus.
Registration_Form
I think rather than just putting genres (which people can write off as shit etc.), putting a little blurb and pimping your song helps in getting someone to download it.

The Nintendo song is pretty cool, although I can't envisage ever listening to it again, kind of a novelty thing- are all his beats derived from old Nintendo stuff?

The Banner Pilot song is great. Can definitely see the Dillinger Four influence in the vocals (really like some strange mid-point between the two DF vocalists) and melodic guitar distortion which gives a pretty epic feel, which I don't often find with punk. Couldn't find them on wikipedia- have they got an album/ep done?
IrishDave
I'll get in on this, with How Soon Is Now? by t.A.T.u. A great cover of a great song, give it a try.

Yea, they have an 8 track EP out called "Pass The Poison" - which you can order from their Myspace page. I can send you the whole thing if you want it tomorrow perhaps but I do suggest buying it if you like it as they're a great band.

That is a really good cover, as the Leicester/Irish/Walsall UKFFers have discussed in the past. And don't dismiss it because it's by t.A.T.u, as they've done some decent songs. Shame they'll always be remembered as the Russian faux-lesbians.

However, I reckon the following version of How Soon Is Now is better:

Snake River Conspiracy - How Soon Is Now

Snake River Conspiracy have released one LP album called Sonic Jihad in 2000, and a few EPs before that. Their album isn't really available anymore, and goes for about £20 on Amazon Sellers.

They were supposed to have a new ablum out last year, according to their MySpace page, but that's been put back. Looks like it's coming soon though, as new songs have started cropping up.

The Shins - A Comet Appears

The last track off The Shins latest album. I'm not sure how to describe it. Beautiful, sublime, an excellent track to put on and stare into space. The lyrics are a bit odd at times, but the general flow of the song is flawless in my opinion. Enjoy.
Chilly McFreeze
The Beach Boys - Feel Flows

Genre - 60's Pop/Psychedelic

O k, this is a song from my second favourate band ever. A gem I unearthed by The Beach Boys, but forget the old surf songs you know, even forget Good Vibrations, and listen to this song. It's fucking fantastic. I could go on all day about the genius that is Brian Wilson, and I'm sure one day I will. but the interesting thing to note on this song is that he didn't write it. He said of the song "Feel Flows' was Carl's tune, and I thought it was wonderful - really great to have created. Come to think of it, 'Feel Flows' is a great commentary on things" So if it's good enough for Wilson, it should be good enough from you.

P.S Fans of the film 'Almost Famous' should recognize it.

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Next

TSAHB were a weird little group that didn't quite fit into the times they were in. Sadly missed Glaswegian Rock And Roll with plenty of theatrics and a twist of the bizarre. FUN FACT - I was named after Alex Harvey.

Here's one I heard about 10 minutes ago for the first time.

Modest Mouse - Float On

I guess it could be classed as indie rock, I'm not too good at putting songs into genres. It's a simple but happy as hell tune and has a catchy as fuck style to it. Give it a go.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/l8dnwz
Parkamarka
The new Modest Mouse record is ace. Float On's probably their best-known tune, but maybe not for long, as Johnny Marr's joined the band which should get them some coverage over here.
Ralphy
Forever Never - "07/07"

Give that song a whirl, its kind of about the 07/07 bombings
Registration_Form
For the crack..

Afghan Whigs- How Soon is Now

.. the vocals don't do it for me but good cover nontheless.
PC316
My song of the day for today is Fall Out Boy - "Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today - this is absolutely classic pop punk and even if you don't like their more mainstream releases, you should definitely check this song out. The influence of bands like Lifetime, Saves The Day etc is clear here and I'd recommend it to any fans of 90s emo/pop punk.
Rob Edwards
Weird War - AK47
Mr. Seven
Wrong link there Robu...

Float On is in my top ten songs of all time. It will never get old.

For today's offering I bring you a song by a now defunct emo/punk/etc band called Finch. I'd imagine most have at least heard the name once as they were fairly well known. Anyways, this is the title track off their debut album What It Is To Burn and it just fucking blows me away. There's so much passion and energy in this tune. The last minute makes me shiver every time.

Finch - What It Is To Burn
Weezage
What It Is To Burn is an incredible song, I'm recommend downloading it.

Dartz! - Once, Twice, Again.

A weird mixture of pop-punk and indie, Dartz! are an awesome band. If you like either pop-punk or indie, you should enjoy this song.

Mr. Seven
Nice tune Weezage. I also liked the Fall Out Boy song. I must pick up that album, as it sounds a lot edgier. I've heard "Saturday" already and it's one of my favourite FOB songs. Why did Pete drop the death metal roar? That's the best part on "Saturday".
Weezage
I'm a huge FOB fan too so I'll jump in here.

Pete didn't actually drop it, he screams a lot on the next two CD's. It's just that for some odd reason, the screams on those CD's sound horrible.

Pete's screaming on Take This To Your Grave is immense, I really don't know what happened.
Mr. Seven
I'll take "they got marketed towards a lighter demographic" for $200.
Weezage
That's the thing, Fall Out Boy's CD after Take This To Your Grave was actually heavier.

The screaming just sounds horrible on it. The screaming on Saturday is somewhat pleasing on the ears, the screaming on songs like I Slept With Someone in Fall Out Boy is just hard to listen to.

Oh, absolutely. I remember back when the album first came out, I didn't really know much about the band back then but there was such a buzz around them, like everyone knew just how huge they were going to become. To be fair to them, I like the more recent stuff too, but Take This To Your Grave represents the peak of their career.

The Walkmen - The Rat

This is in my top five songs of all time. I'll never forget the first time I heard it. I think it was Rob Edwards who described as the best Strokes song not recorded by The Strokes, but I think it's better than anything they've ever done. The drumming is amazing, the vocals are pulsating and the song flows like nothing else.

Duke Special - Stumble And Fall

Erasure - Ship Of Fools

Genre: Synthpop

Chest Rockwell
Lalo Schifrin - No More lies, Girl.

This is off of the Dirty Harry Soundtrack, all done by Shifrin.. I don't know what the genre is.. jazzy kinda stuff.. But he really is one of my favourite composers, and I'm sure a lot of people like his work without knowing it's him (the one that comes up most is the Bullit soundtrack).. So yeah - check this shit out. This is one of the vocal tracks off the album, but most of it is instrumental..
