Just as FIFA turns up my live membership expires so was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of the cheapest 12 month subscription, know there are a few sites about but never know which sites to trust or not. Cheers.

At the moment theres a Halo Reach 12 month subscription that has 2 bonus months, so look out for that. I had a fiver off aswell so I'm sorted until the end of next year for £35.
Steve Justice
Xbox are doing a deal themselves at the moment, 12 months & 800 points for (I think) £34 or 24 months & 1600 points for £67. Not a bad deal that.
CAREBEAR LUVVA
Watch those Xbox deals though, because they seem to add VAT on top. They had one a couple of months back which was 12 months for £31 (I think), I signed up for it and £36 went from my bank account. I'm only guessing at those numbers because I can't actually remember what they were, but I remember being annoyed at the deal not being what it said it was going to be. Ended up saving about £3.

Bought the new xbox and gave my 60G to my girlfriend whos at Uni.

The new one is still pretty much the same, I put my name and £10 down for Kinect and I'l be getting Smackdown when its out.

I was advised to stay clear of Deadrising though, even though I thought it looked fun.

i nearly ended up with a PS3 but was advised against that as well.

Should say thanks to the lads in Gamestation who put up with me.

Plus is Brotherhood just a wo player game or is it the Assassins creed story continued?

You got told to avoid the PS3 and Dead Rising, but you put a deposit down on Kinect?. That's so backwards.
CAREBEAR LUVVA
Hey, someone's got to buy it in order to tell everyone else how shit it is.
TripleA
I enjoy reading up on it to hear the new things they've found to make it worse. The latest being it scanned a sofa in as a person and then crashed because halfway through scanning it realized it wasn't a person but couldn't un-scan. Terrible.

Yeah..... I would probably hold off on adding 'the boys at Gamestation' to your Xmas card list just yet.
CAREBEAR LUVVA
I haven't heard that sofa story. Hilarious! It apparently has difficulty with strong accents as well, so unless you talk like a BBC continuity announcer you could find yourself running into some problems.
Kata Ha Jime
If its bad I'l return it. Not too much hassle.

I'd rather have the x box still rather than the PS3 and waiting 4 in game hours doing nothing on a game seems a tad boring, but i could be wrong.

The kinect might be fun, possibly better than the wii.

Not much point me having a PS3 if i'm going to only really buy 3 games for it (Heavy rain, God Of War and Metal gear).

Though if Kinect is crap, Il be sure to tell you tongue.gif.

I'm not sure where you heard you just stand about for 4 hours, but take it from me (and i'm sure Carebear can back me up), sometimes you find you don't have enough time, rather than too much. Especially if you're after all the survivors/psychos/combos/etc.

The level where you have to get antidote for your daughter?? not sure.

Feeling kinda crappy about Kinect now, don't think il get my tenner back though.

So the majority of you would recommend Dead Rising 2?

You can only give your daughter Zombrex in 1 hour periods, so 7am-8am. You also only have to do it 4 times in the whole game. I think whoever's been describing this to you is a bit wrong confused.gif I'd recommend it. Very replayable.

Well i'l stay clear of kinect, and might pick up a pre owned Dead Rising if I can.
CAREBEAR LUVVA
I would also recommend Dead Rising 2. If you find yourself standing around doing nothing then you're playing it wrong - if anything you should be feeling that you're not quite being given enough time to fit everything in.

I've been playing Darksiders again today, it's so much fun. It's a God Of War clone, but so much more fun than GOW ever was. At least I think so. Also this week I'm hoping to finally get through Alan Wake. I've done the first 3 chapters and enjoyed it so far, but it's been sat on the shelf for a few months while I've been playing more recent releases so it's time to get back to it I think. Not sure what I'll move on to after this though, I was saying to a mate earlier today that I might be stuck for games when this is out of the way. I'll be relying on Lovefilm to deliver something to keep me interested for the next couple of weeks until New Vegas is released.

Oh yeah, and next time I'm in town I plan on popping into Game - I'm matey with one of the lads who works there and I reckon he'd give me an honest answer to the question "how are the Kinect preorders going?"
TripleA
I'd love to hear that because the Game in my town are advertising it as this year's "hard to get" present. I really don't think it is. I'm not really up to date with what kids want, but I bet it's going to be COD: Black Ops or Fifa 11 and not Kinect Joyride.
Stylin_and_Profilin
Ok i have now been given a free 28 day upgrade from lovefilm on my basic package to take it up to include video games. What 360 stuff should i be looking for?
CAREBEAR LUVVA
^ Totally depends what sort of games you like...

On the subject of Kinect, telling people it's going to sell out is a safe way of making sure that it does sell out. Nothing shifts crap like the illusion of high demand and a massive advertising campaign. CEX and eBay will be flooded with it in January though.
Steve Justice
Question. If I have the new DLC for Red Dead Redemption (new gang hideouts etc) would a friend, who doesn't have the new DLC, be able to join my session?
JLM

Hi Steve, it's me, Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux Kernel.

How is you Xbox Live Gold membership working out for you?
Steve Justice
Great! I got it for a great price of £25, but it expires in November so will have to wait and see if I can get it cheap again. No way I'm paying Bill's prices.

Also, the above question is relating to another tight arse, I actually bought the DLC. smile.gif

Just come off Sonic 4 episode 1 on my iphone. Its not the 360 edition but hopefully the 360 edition offers alot more than this since its VERY short on the iphone. Only 16 levels which structures of 3 levels and a boss level for each zone, ones everyones seen on the demo's. A Casino set up, a set up like metropolis and a underwater zone like Labyrinth. The special are a cross breed between sonic 1 and 2, the set up is like sonic 1 but you have to get so many rings to pass to the next zone.

They've taken what worked from Sonic 1 and 2 it left it at that which is a shame cos I REALLY love Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Oh well bring on episode 2, I dont feel this going to be the 800 worth MS want for this. Sonic 2 is longer and only costs 400ms points.

Don't get me wrong is a good game, graphics top notch, no horrible ranking system to say how bad you were, they are the slight bugs here or there on the Labyrinth level, theres a crushing wall coming from the left you get a speed shoe it run out when you get to a hill.

Again this is the iphone version hopefully this is a bug only for the iphone they would of fixed it for the 360.

Sonic has lost his charm from the good old days, the music have been brought into the 21st century which with sonic is awful, nothing wrong with the midi sounds. For example the tunes on Sky Chase Zone, Ice Cap, Lava Reef, the Doomsday zone all good. I dont feel they work.

Right guys, my days of being a hardcore gamer are long gone unfortunately. My attention span is narrow at the best of times so I have a lot of games sitting there unfinished. If I get stuck on a tough bit i tend to just give up quite easily. Thing is, I refuse to play a game on easy and like to play it on a harder setting. Which game shall I try and finish?!

Dead Space
Dead Rising 1
Farcry 2
COD 4
GTA IV
Darksiders
Bioshock
Conan
Dantes Inferno
Saints row 1
Hitman?

All excellent games I've not played for a while. Im the sort of guy who plays one game at a time until I complete it, but for whatever reasons these games are sat there uncompleted... So UKFF...which do I tackle first?
CAREBEAR LUVVA
Out of those, Bioshock.

Seconded. Its a really fun experience, and its nicely paced so whilst it doesn't take too long to complete, it doesn't outstay its welcome either

In other news I have finally started to make some progress in Fallout 3 thumbs-up.gif

I went for that deal on Xbox live this month where I buy a 24month pass for something like £64 and it gives you back about £20 worth of Microsoft points. I thought that was pretty decent.

So my student loan is in and I want to upgrade my 20/40g harddrive (it's one or the other, how do I check?) to maybe something a bit more spacey. I've been having to delete full arcade games off my harddrive to make room for new ones and i'd prefer to have them all just there. I have a few questions -

1. What sizes do the harddrives come in?
2. Where's the best place to get one?
3. Where do I get that transfer cable from
4. Will it transfer literally everything, or will I have to re-download all my Rock Band DLC/Arcade games/themes/avatar stuff etc.

Cheers to anyone that can help.

They come in 20gb, 60gb, 120gb or 250gb.

The 20gb doesn't say its size on it but the others do.

I will leave the others, who know what they are talking about, the chance to answer the rest
Big_Will
No need for a transfer cable as if you take the time you can use a usb drive to move stuff

BIG LET DOWN, extremely short, no story, Ok its a sonic game but with Sonic 2 onwards they at least tried to tell a story within the game. They've taken the best from Sonic 1 and 2 and put them together.

Not worth the points and the 16 year wait.

Its a fan game. Why have they waitd 16 years to release Sonic the best off in one game.
Sym
Have you played the console version then?

He just likes to disagree.

I finished the new Castlevania yesterday, it was really really good. They pace the handing out of abilities pretty well so it feels like you're always getting new stuff right through the game, and there's a decent variety of enemies to get rid of along the way. There's an awful lot of cutscenes but they all fill in the story and are easily skippable if you don't care. It's possibly the most beautiful game I've ever played, with one level in particular I'm sure will stick in my mind for a long long time (the part where you approach the castle for the first time). I don't like to use this word because it's thrown around a lot in unnecessary situations, but I really think it's an epic game. Well worth the £35, and I'm considering not even trading it in because I reckon I'll happily go through it a few more times. Two thumbs up to you, Castlevania!

Fallout New Vegas is less than two weeks away. The 22nd can't come quickly enough now...

Kinect has sold out at GAME.

The retailer has confirmed on its website that it can no longer supply devices for launch day but will continue to take pre-orders.

"We've hit our limit for launch but you can still pre-order for a priority place in the queue. As soon as we have more stock in, we will make sure we get your order to you," read the statement.

Games and hardware bundles with an Xbox 360 are still available for pre-order.

Kinect will be available from November 10 in the UK.

Great. I await the massive wave of disappointed kids and frustrated parents!.

On the subject of a new harddrive, cheers for those who helped me, but seeing as nobody gave me a price range or anything I just ended up risking it and going out to town. Found a 60gb one in GAME for £25. I said i'd go looking around first before I bought it, and ended up in Gamestation where they were the same price, so I went to buy it there instead of walking all the way back to GAME and the bloke on the desk told me the 120gb ones were only £30. For only a fiver difference I just bought the 120gb one. Sorted.
Took me all night moving stuff with a 4gb USB though, but it's done now, and I downloaded the licenses and that off the xbox website.

Was it £30 for a new hard drive, or were they pre-owned? I thought they'd be more expensive than that. I've never paid attention to them really, I've only used about 40 gig of my 120G so there's never been a reason for me to look into how much they might cost.

I preordered New Vegas in town this morning - decided against getting it online in case it doesn't turn up on release day. I'd have a full tantrum if other people were playing it and mine hadn't arrived because of the post being shit.

Na, it was pre-owned. I think it was about £70ish new. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it though, you may as well get it second hand.

EDIT-

For any of you planning on buying Sonic 4. I wouldn't. It is without a doubt the shittest 2D Sonic game i've ever played, on a console or handheld. It's just not Sonic at all. And I'm not saying that because he looks new, or anything like that, but because it's slow, clunky, and he doesn't do what Sonic does. Remember Sonic 2 you'd run down a steep hill and just press down and you'd spin like a ball through loops and into the air at high speeds?. Not on this. Unless you actually do a proper spin dash Sonic just stops dead when you roll. You can't make it up loops, he just drops a quarter of the way up and stands there like a lemon. His homing dash was fine on 3D Sonic games, but when you can't see what's past the screen ahead of you then you realise that homing in on things is a massive burden. Also, remember when you used to come off a ramp or a loop and shoot through the air in a ball? Not on this either. As soon as you reach the height of your jump, he just uncurls and flails about on the entire way down.

In short, Sonic 4 is a slow, less responsive, funless Sonic 2. Apparently Sega can't even make good 2D Sonic games anymore. What a fucking letdown. Try the demo like I did and you'll see what I mean. It might impress you at first with it's classic "SEEEEGAAAAA" opening and title screen, but when you get to the meat of the game it's just one big fat reminder than Sonic is a long dead franchise.

Thank fuck for someone agreeing with me

Speaking of Fallout, i got fallout 3 for £15.

Nearly crapped my pants when a massive ant chased me.

Thats how my Fallout 3 experiences often went. One made me jump so bad that I got all vindictive and used a mini nuke on it. Not a good idea in hindsight but felt good at the time.

I beat the s**t out of it with a Police batton, then shot to people on the broken highway and blamed them.

Picked up Enslaved: Odyssey To The West this afternoon and from looking at the achievements list it seems I'm about halfway through already - I'm sure I've only been playing for 2 or 3 hours. Can't say I'm massively impressed - so far we've had platforming straight out of Uncharted (with a touch of Assassin's Creed not-always-going-where-you-want-him-to-go thrown in for good measure), some uninspiring combat (press X a basic attack, or press Y for a slightly stronger basic attack), a measly two different ammo types (there might be more but that's all it's given me so far), a couple of really easy puzzles, one boss fight which was ridulously easy, an under-utilised but probably unnecessary anyway hoverboard, and a very annoying female counterpart who - when she isn't shouting at you to catch up while you're off wandering and exploring - can't seem to make up her mind about what sort of distances she's capable of jumping over so you think she'll be right behind you and it turns out she's miles away and you have to go back to pick her up and throw her over a gap.

As I say, I'm only halfway through so I'm hoping it might pick up later on...
