Take the power out of the cable modem.

Unplug the USB cable from the cable modem.

Leave the ethernet cable attached to the modem and the XBox.

Wait 30 seconds.

Plug the power back into the cable modem.

Wait until the modem has "booted" - i.e. all the crazy light flashing has stopped.

Turn you XBox back on.

Try it.

That's what I was thinking too - which is why I asked for the make and model. I figured the chances of getting JTTS to read the instructions were pretty slim, so I might as well do it myself.

Yeah. The idea is - just like the Amazing Johnnyboy suggested - it's not a router at all, just a modem.

What's the difference? A broadband modem connects one PC or console to broadband. A broadband router creates a local network for all of your PCs and consoles to talk to each other, and also allows all of them to connect to broadband.

You either need to buy new kit, or get used to the plug / unplug procedure. Depends on your means, really. I'm not an expert on buying, so I'll leave it to johnnyboy to suggest the best deal.

If the PC already has an ethernet port setting up a cabled router is relatively simple:

Unplug everything from the power.

Connect ethernet from cable modem to the WAN/Internet (depending on how it's labelled) port on router.

Connect ethernet cable from PC to one of the ports labelled 1-4 on the router.

Connect XBox to another one of the ports labelled 1-4.

Switch cable modem and router on.

Wait for crazy light flashing to calm down.

Turn on PC and Xbox.

As everyone's moving to wireless, cabled routers are relatively cheap (you can pick up Linksys ones for £20 - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/54774).

If the PC doesn't have an ethernet port already you can pick up network cards for £5 or less - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/104381 - This require opening up your PC though.

If you don't have an ethernet port and have got the ph33r about opening up the PC you can get USB->ethernet adapters. I'm not a huge fan of them, but they do the job. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/60065

Street fighter was released today for the XBLA! Downloaded it first thing this morning, despite some connection problems (which you would probably expect) it runs pretty smoothly and is great craic once you get a lag free match on the go.

The whole concept of the 'quarter match' is pretty cool too. It's basically a 'winner stays on' type game. 4 people can enter a game. 2 fight as 2 spectate. Then when 1 player loses 1 of the spectators ight the winner and so on and so on.

Man, you guys were so right about Oblivion. I've only had about 5 hours on it so far over the past few days - but it's already got me hooked! Totally amazing.

What characters did you all choose? It suggested a bard for me, and I took it's advice - giving me some fighting and some magical powers.

Anyone else played the Dead Rising demo? I really enjoyed it and have since pre-ordered the game which comes out next month.

As for the Saints Row demo. I liked it and I think it will tide us all over nicely until Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out next year. However I really can't stand the whole gangsta/boyz in da hood theme and find it extremely off-putting. I may still pick it up though.

Breton custom mage-type class with The Atronach starsign. It's the way forward (just as it was in Morrowind).

The Atronach gives you a ridiculous magicka bonus, but also means that you don't regenerate magicka by sleeping - but you get permanent 50% spell absorption instead. This means that you need to be able to stand still instead of dodging when someone casts a spell at you. Breton gives you 50% resist magicka, so it's a perfect match - even when you don't absorb the spell, it does much less damage. (You might be tempted to go for a High Elf born under The Atronach to get an even bigger magicka bonus. Don't. High Elves really suffer when hit by magical attacks, and you WILL need to get hit by magical attacks to play an Atronach character optimally). I wouldn't recommend this setup for a first time Elder Scrolls-series player, but it really does beat the piss out of your other options.

I would recommend that you take Marksmanship as a major skill because missile weapons are VERY cool in Oblivion but they take an age to level up. Apart from that, avoid Restoration and brush up on Alchemy (but don't necessarily take it as a major skill, because it's easy to practice).

I'd hardly played since I got my 360. Damn having a job! I'm off Thursday and am planning an all day Oblivion/GRAW session.

Mine arrived yesterday from gameplay. Played on it for a couple of hours when I got home from work. It's such an awesome game and the best I've played on the 360 yet in my opinion. I'm not the biggest fan of all that gangsta rap stuff, but there is no denying that it's a fantastic game.

Played dead rising in g force (demo though) if you thought state of emergency was good, this is 100% better, blood gore and use any weapon you like.

I picked up Lego Star Wars 2 and Test Drive: Unlimited this morning. Not had a chance to play either of them just yet as I had a clan meeting on GRAW this afternoon - but I'm super excited about playing them as soon as I get a chance. If you pre-ordered Lego Star Wars at Game you also get a super-funky boba fett key-ring.

How's everyone getting on with Saint's Row? I've been having fun with it so far - despite the fact that the online game sucks my left nut. Though apparently there's a patch coming out next Tuesday that should smooth out all of the online lagging - or so they say. Offline is great. I love the fact that I got a secret achievement the other day simply for beating up 50 random passers by with melee attacks. Anyone else discoveres any of the other secret achievements yet? I think there's one for running 26 miles on foot, and one for playing the game for 20 hours - not sure about the others yet though.

Are game selling this to those who havent preordered? it isnt supposed to be out until Tuesday, id love to pick this up tommorow.

Ive played Dead Rising alot today and its really good fun and all BUT theres only voice acting in the cut scenes, during actual play anything thats said in the game just comes up on the screen as text, really really small and difficult to read text. Theres no option to change that, criminal.

I pre-ordered it.... I don't actually recall it being out on the shelf, though I didn't go and look. I think it's out Monday on general release.

I grabbed myself a 360 on Friday, traded in my PSP and got £120 off. Got Test Drive Unlimited and Saints Row. Havent played Saints Row yet, have been having too much fun playing Test Drive, very impressed so far. Think I've already spent more time playing the 360 in the three days I've had it than I did in the 4 months I had the PSP so money well spent.

Haven't signed up for Xbox live yet, need to nick a nice long bit of cat5 from work so I can run the cable from the router without trailing it across the floor.

Gamestation in Brighton. £100 for the PSP gig pack and £10 each for Pro Evo 5 and Everybody's Golf. I assume that the trade in price would be the same no matter what branch you visit, and that Game would offer a similar amount if you don't have a local Gamestation.

Mine was still boxed though and in pretty much brand new condition, so it may drop in price if you no longer have the box. I was going to stick it on ebay but thought I'd be lucky to get as much as the shop were offering so decided to go with the safe bet.
