Computer help.
I've just been given my mum's old e-system laptop to use as a spare (and to make use of the disc-drive as I primarily use a net-book). It's seen better days and I need to do a "factory reset" or whatever it is called for a computer. Basically, she's never made a recovery disc so how do I go about getting it back to how it would be if you did a 'factory reset' on a phone, if at all possible.
A massive thanks if anybody can help me here.

Can anyone recommend some kind of remote control holder for this lot?

My wife keeps hiding them because apparently it makes the place look untidy (despite all her stuff being down the side of her armchair, but apparently that's OK because it's hidden). Just need somewhere to keep it all neatly so I don't feel like I'm involved in a really shit alternative easter egg hunt whenever I want to cotch in front of the TV.
EDIT:- There is actually another remote missing from that lot. My PS3 Blu-Ray remote.

Used to have a chat with him when I visited Kendal, and by sheer coincidence, he had a stall next to mine at a wargame show in Manchester a few years back. Not been to kendal for a few years, but him, the donut shop and a fantastic curry are happy memories.

Fuck me, it's not chess, it's got a huge random element in it. If you have a well balanced army and a good idea of how to get the best of it, you can have a good chance of winning, but its sitll a bit of a coin toss.

A friend of mine changed his to Baron Cabbagehead.
It had been his name on Facebook for a while, and within days of changing it, Facebook suspended his profile for not using his real name. One scanned document emailed to them later, and he was back.
Basic cost is £33, althouth there's "optional extras".
Are you thinking of becoming Richie Freebird for real? It is a pretty cool name, you must admit.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are on Utorrent (which you should be) then you can go into Preferences > BitTorrent > and ensure 'Protocol Encryption' is set to enabled for peace of mind but to be honest i wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thought I'd pop this here instead of starting a thread, hopefully someone will have some advice.
I'm about to apply for my Ma in Film Studies for September, need to get it in by Easter realistically. I've been out of education and working in shitty management jobs for years (9, to be exact). Obviously a writing sample is required for the application, and I've got relatively little of my old uni writing left- and what I have got, although it got decent marks, I'm not tremendously happy with. Plus they're going to want something more recent.
Not sure what my question here is really, just that after so long I'm finding the prospect daunting. Obviously whatever I produce will be film-related, but how closely does it need to relate to what I'm going to be studying? Or is it only for the purpose of demonstrating that I can write articulately and form an argument? Also, on the application form, it says that the writing sample should preferably be marked. Obviously mine won't be. Does that place me at a significant disadvantage?
Any and all advice will be appreciated, so if any of you have gone through this process in your thirties and can offer any pearls of wisdom, please do!

Ok, this really is a long shot, and indeed a long story.
In March last year, I was in Melbourne. I was in a clothes shop and I heard an absolutely brilliant song. It was in French and sounded like it was late 60's, or possibly a modern song with a 60's feel, had a repetitive baseline and a horn motif at the end of every line, just a two note one. The radio station didn't say the name of it, then again it was probably a CD so I thought I'd never know the song but it has been in my head since.
Last week, I was watching the last episode of the brilliant "Jonathan Meades On France" and to my surprise and delight, they used a clip, no more than ten seconds, of the very song. So I guess my question is, is there an online resource that lists soundtracks or clips of songs used on BBC or any TV show? Just so I can find out the name of this song and get it.
Cheers.

All the episodes appear to be on YouTube, if there were no other sounds or talking for a few seconds while the song was playing I'd suggest getting the Shazam app for your phone and using that. It's free and should be able to identify the song. It's got me out of some very frustrating "what the fuck is that song?" moments.
