I'm currently watching Thunderbirds. So far, in it's favour is Bill Paxton is in it. Against it is everything else.

Kirano is now Indian? But his daughter Tin Tin is now hispanic?

The Tracey brothers look like a horrendously effeminate boy band.

Good soundtrack though (the Hans Zimmer stuff, not fucking Busted).

Brains has been replaced by Anthony Edwards doing a shit Arkwright impression.

I think they were trying to make a film for the generation that hadn't even really heard of the original show.

I would love a live action movie of Stingray or Captain Scarlett

Yeah they made a big mistake not focussing the movie on the actual Thunderbirds themselves. They focussed it on Alan who was portrayed as a boy trying to become a thunderbird, but I'm sure kids would rather of just seen the REAL Thunderbirds just going at it. Shame.

A Clockwork Orange: I remembered seeing a bit of this years ago and just thinking it was weird, but I've been enjoying weird films recently so I bought a copy. Great film, still very very weird but in a British way. I love the odd have russian half slang that the main characters use. I really want to get a copy of Brazil now, but they didn't have it in HMV.

Good film... I might give it a watch again soon.

I watched Finding Nemo at the weekend as well as Night at the Museum through the week seeing as theres now a sequel. Agree with the gentle comedy aspect, though I did get distracted with so many faces from so many places.

I've not got Spaced series one to rewatch, the last Indiana Jones film to see if it's really as bad as people say (I never paid for it, so it's all good either way), the Wrestler on DVD to rewatch and Stargate's Ark of Truth which I got from LoveFilm a week ago and haven't had time to see yet.

I shall have an entertaining few days.

Drag Me To Hell: Not as amazing as it's being pimped out to be, but still one of the more superior horrors of recent years and it does enough to sway you from angering any gypsies.

Coraline: I really didn't see much popping out at me in terms of 3-D. When I said this to a mate, he said I need to look out for it, which I though was redundant what with needing to wear the stupid glasses to watch the thing. 3-D aside, it begins a tad slow but is quite decent once it gets rolling. At times it felt more like a feature length episode as opposed to a film, but a good one at that.

Did you have your 3d glasses on funny? There was loads of stuff popping out of the camera. They didn't over do it, which I really liked, but there was definately a lot of 3d use.

I'm off to see drag me to hell tonight, I'm looking forward to it.
CuckedByMenry
I didn't have them on funny, I just didn't think anything really popped out bar a handful of scenes.

Thats a good thing though. The 3d in general was very good and gave the film an extra something. Especially with the visuals being so good anyway. I prefered this to the usual 3d films where characters constantly find excuses to throw things towards the camera or poke broom handles out toward us.
CuckedByMenry
Due to my friend talking about how watching Bolt had him feel as though a pair of hands came out to either side of his head, I was expecting something similar. However, It definitely boosted the already-superb animation and I'd certainly go to see another 3D film. thumbs-up.gif

LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT ( 2009 REMAKE ) - 7.5/10

Well this turned out much better than I'd expected to be honest as normally remakes are a bit shite, overall I couldnt fault it 1 bit apart from the bit right at the end I didnt know if the dad really did that or not.

It would of been better if I hadnt already seen the original but I saw it that long ago ( about 12 years ) that I'd forgot bits and pieces but remembered the main parts like who dies etc.

Still well worth a watch though I reckon.

I agree it's well worth a watch.

The rape scene was incredibly hard to watch.

Also agree about that bit you mentioned, not sure if he did or not.

I watched way back when it was on Sky 1 and quite liked it then, thought of it as the superior of the two when I watched Continuum, but as it's the plans for season 11 packed into a single DVD you can see where they could have packed more in/stretched it out. For a new fan it's also very inaccessible. If someone wanted to check out Stargate and see what the fuss was about, maybe start small instead of a season, they'd be fucked if this is what they picked up.

And like with most latter SG1 stuff - needs more Vala.

watched Tokyo Gore Police as someone mentioned it was a good gore film.

I must disagree, what a load of todswhallop!

interesting concept but the special effects weren`t that good and the `flying police officer` was `WAY!!!!` (cant emphesise that way enough there!) too much

Drag Me To Hell - Whilst undoubtedly very good, it's outrageously silly at times. That's clearly the intention but it sort of spoiled the film a little bit. Slightly surprised at the fact it's getting called the best horror film in years. It may be great but the large of amounts of humour really detract from the horror elements and ensure that all but the tensest moments are devoid of any real scare.

Back to the Future 1 & 2. Both ones I've unintentionally avoided all my life, and now finally seen. 1 was okay, 2 was just bearable but I'm absolutely dreading 3, and I know it's on the horizon soon, its a BttF cleansing of sorts by my bird. It's not a fair swap, I've introduced her to the American Office, and she's loved it. I've got to put up with lame self-referential jokes for 1.5 hrs at a time and find some good.

I'll give a film respect if I believe it's due though, Biff is a massive twat of a baddie, I'll give them that.

I'm the only one seemingly not getting the love for this movie. While I thought some scenes were pretty nifty, overall it was just pretty silly really. I'm down with the whole supernatural elements, because it would be pretty silly to have that as a gripe in a film of this sort, but the way it which its all executed is disappointing. The scares are the same old, same old type of "everything goes still and silent, the BANG goes a loud noise and something pops up" thing, thats really just jumpy bits rather than an actual scare or do anything in the way of creating tension.

Got around to Indy 4.

Ok... so a lot of people were on about the aliens angle making it pish when it was released. The way it was presented, it wasn't much different from the previous film which is probably still my favourite of the bunch despite having a religious basis which I have much less faith in than the possibility of Aliens.

It was nice to see the idea of them passing the torch (despite there likely never being a 5th), a few callbacks, pointing out that he's much older now and more James Bondish nods. Oh, and a Janitor in the FBI. The fridge thing was the only part that really made me cringe, though considering that was one of the initial concepts for BTTF it was a little bit amusing.

I was hoping for more fleshed out villians, but it was alright. Not as bad as I was expecting given the shite reviews.

That's the charm of some of the 80s horror titles that it was based on though. Evil Dead is the perfect example (same director too, obviously) of this.

Saw Night At The Museum 2 last night. Pretty predictable fair, with Ben Stiller doing his Ben Stiller routine, and Ricky Gervais doing his bumbling, awkward phrasing routine. The plot's an absolute no-brainer, with much of the film in a warehouse filled with whatever the writers felt like. Special Effects are so-so, with some of the simpler effects being more effective.

The star of the show is definately Hank Azaria, and his love of Monty Python is not exactly disguised ("Shall I welease Woderwick?"). He's also clearly been hitting the gym as he's sporting some rather impressive arms.

The second star of the show is Amy Adams' lower half in gloriously tight trousers.

Owen Wilson is somewhat bland in it, Steve Googhan gets a few decent lines, Christopher Guest is great but underused, and Robin Williams isn't overbearing. Which is nice.

All in all, enjoyable fluff, which I enjoyed more than the first. This is probably due to the efforts of Azaria, Guest and the tight trousers.

Today my cousin lent me a copied DVD of a Channel 4 show which aired back in 2000 called Disinformation. It's basically a counter-culture program featuring the usual nutjobs claiming to have traveled through time or were supposedly brainwashed by government agencies and forced to do strange experiments along with interesting features on art, pornography, cults and conspiracies. A lot of the really off the wall stories were somewhat unconvincing and everyone involved in the Satanic Cult segment came off looking like total imbeciles but there's a really fascinating interview with Genesis P-Orridge (of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV fame) where he talks about his highly controversial performance art pieces, the 1970's Industrial music scene and how he was referred to in Parliament as a "wrecker of civilisation".

The real gem was on disc two which was a collection of footage from DisinfoCon 2000 which featured an inspiring forty-odd minute lecture from Scottish comic book writer and artist Grant Morrison. I wasn't familiar with Morrison or his work before this but his lecture was a real spectacle, I love it when someone I've never even heard of stands up on a stage in front of a crowd of people and talks about the kind of shit I've had floating around in my brain tank for ages. You can watch the whole lot on YouTube (part one here), he talks about Aliens and stuff in part one but don't be put off.

Signs - Mel Gibson + Joaquin Phoenix
Granted I didn't see it right from the beginning which can make a difference with the enjoyment of a film as it might not make sense but this was rubbish. When the alien turned up at their house towards the end they boarded up the place instead of getting tooled up. Gibson's acting was very poor, he just looked dopey as did Joaquin who seemed to be playing Gibson's backward brother. I get the impression they had all been told to under act when the alien arrived the 2 kids were unbelievably calm. Oh yeah despite the use of Joaquin's baseball bat on the alien it was good old strategically placed H2o saving the day.
The matter of Gibson's faith being questioned seemed to be the most important factor of the film. I'm presuming Gibson directed the movie himself. The best scene of the film I saw was Joaquin and the 2 kids sitting on the sofa wearing tin foil hats tongue.gif
Joaquin has been so good in other films I couldn't believe it.

I've seen it when it 1st came out and enjoyed it even though it makes no sense what so ever, how can aliens what are supposedly far more advanced than us not be able to get through a locked door haha.

Foale
I actually loved Signs. Granted there were some glaringly questionable things like why would the Aliens even attempt to invade a planet which is 70% water - the substance which is lethal to them, and how they can master space travel but have difficulty opening a wooden door, but the general suspense of the film and the 'less is more' approach to the presence of the aliens is really gripping.

Maybe it's because you don't see the normal sci-fi 'laser beams and spaceships' stuff that so many alien films incorporate and the general feel of the film is more savoury, with a much smaller cast making it more intimate, but I'm a big fan of the film.

Absolutely hated it. There was one plotline that I gave a crap about, the one with the psychic paedo priest, and that ended up just screeching to a halt as well. Boring, boring tedious crap.

Agreed, it's pretty much aimed at teenage girls who find pale, brooding emo's hot. A complete joke of a movie. I haven't read the series of books so not sure if it's any different.

Also i went to see Drag Me To Hell last night (only because the girlfriend didn't want to see Terminator - Salvation angry.gif ) and nearly walked out. I love horror movies but hate that the genre has descended into getting rid of any suspense and just using loud noises to "scare" people. It's film-making at it's very laziest. It was M Night Shymalan, not Gibson who directed - you can tell by the big twist that's in every Shymalan film.

It's not really very good, is it? I still like 6th Sense, Unbreakable and The Village, but the rest of his stuff is derivative.

I saw Caddyshack for the first time a couple of years ago and I was pretty disappointed. I love Murray usually but I thought his character just wasnt funny. Rodney Dangerfield was the clear MVP of the film.

It was M Night Shymalan, not Gibson who directed - you can tell by the big twist that's in every Shymalan film.

It's not really very good, is it? I still like 6th Sense, Unbreakable and The Village, but the rest of his stuff is derivative.

I like Unbreakable, probably due to the comic book elements, though the Village and Sixth Sense didn't make me want to watch them again. I have Signs on DVD, it's the only one of his films I've purchased, I do like it but the ending is pretty flat. The tone of the comedy appeals to me which is about it...

Watched The Wrestler again and it remains a highly depressing film. Good though. Introduced my girlfriend to Spaced and Indy 4. She liked Indy 4 more than she thought she would, I showed her Spaced as she recently became a fan of Simon Pegg... I don't think she enjoyed it as much as I did but there were a few laugh out loud moments for her. Leaves me happy.

Watched T3 earlier and really enjoyed it.

Few bad points, such as Nick Stahl, but overall it's enjoyable.

The Doctor Who TV Movie with Paul McGann.

It's actually not too bad a film, well not as bad as hardcore Whovians make it out to be. An interview with the director from 2001 also sheds some light on it's weaker spots though his commentary over the film is dreadful.

Loved Paul McGann in the role, always loved that TARDIS set and if you just shut off the inner geek it's not too bad.

Zoolander
- saw for 1st time the other day, bloody funny but not quite as good as the other Ben Stiller movie about the ice skating(?)

Can't say I'm familiar with a Ben Stiller ice skating movie. If you mean Blades of Glory and you're saying it's better than Zoolander, then you must be shot.

Zoolander's one of my favourite films of all time. One of the main reasons is for Will Ferrel as the awesome Mugatu.
