TWP MAGAZINE #20 NOW AVAILABLE!

WWE Legend 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin speaks to The Wrestling Press

In this month's edition of free online magazine 'The Wrestling Press' WWE legend 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin discusses his acting career and his ideal opponent if he returned to WWE.

Here’s what he had to say:

On wrestling CM Punk: "So yeah I hear the stories, if the stars aligned and all things worked out to benefit us all I’d say that he is the guy I’d pick to face. I could get another match out of this carcass of mine sure.”

On filming a comedy: “Comedy, no one has asked really, I have a script in progress, kind of a spoof of the action genre and I do want to do that.”

On his new DVD: “Looking back like that lets you see things you would change if you could go back. Early in my career I was in Ric Flair mode… I was really treading water for a time.”

On Tough Enough 2: “I hear there will be a second series, I’d say there’s a 95% chance of it right now. I really did enjoy doing it.”

TWP also has interviews with TNA Champ Bobby Roode and Japanese sensation Dick Togo. As well as many other original features, such as; Survivor Series, the forgotten PPV – Home Town Pride (how lack of territories have killed the fans passion) – Star Ratings debate – Super Dragon returns to PWG – The Impact of DG:UK – First ever SMASH champion (Exlusive!) – and much, much more.

Phil Austin actually phoned Mr Bockwinkel as part of an AWA project for FSM magazine. The interview didn't get used and thankfully Phil sent it to me. Hope you enjoy it.

I love it when people on the internet talk about wrestlers of whom I have never seen so much as a single match of. It makes me feel much cooler and less nerdy. Rock on harrrd! music.gif

You're posting on an internet wrestling forum. I don't think it's going to make you that much cooler.
PowerButchi
It's not like Nick Bockwinkel matches are hard to find either, or he's some semi-obscure wrestler like "California Hippie" Mike Boyette. It's not like trying to find VHS of Farmer Burns or something.
L_E_T_H_A_L
Thanks. I'll read and send feedback over the next few days.

You've never seen Bockwinkel vs. Lawler or Bockwinkel vs. Hennig?
PWPgreg
Just a quick request, if anyone has had time to read through this I'd be interested in any feedback, good or bad. Balance of content OK? Anything missing that you'd like to see in there? Will you bother checking out future issues? etc.

Thanks.
Phil Austin
Just a slight correction regarding the Nick Bockwinkel piece-a portion of that interview did get used in the AWA piece many moons ago in FSM back long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. This is the full transcript I recorded from an epic conversation with the legendary competitor (a conversation that actually continued after the taping was done as Mr Bockwinkel went on to ask me how the British wrestlers were doing these days).

I have to say that Nick Bockwinkel was one of the nicest and most gracious of wrestlers I have spoken to. To have a completely random soul phone up out of the blue and request an interview would surely have been met with far less grace by some, and I also have to thank Bill Apter for helping to set it up and allowing me to namedrop him to open the door for the interview. Another of wrestling's really good guys!

ISSUE 8 UPDATE

Quick note to mention that the next edition of TWP is coming together nicely and should be available from around 15th May.

This issue will be enhanced with video footage - further improvements will be introduced over the coming months.

As usual you'll find a broad variety of topics, such as features on Doug Williams, Randy Orton, 80's wrestling, WWE Draft, BWA Training School (UK), Jack Swagger, Evolve Wrestling, Lionheart vs Desmond Wolfe preview, Mexico's CMLL, Christopher Daniels/TNA, Germany's Eric Schwarz and much, much more. As well as several interviews and free prize giveaways.

To co-incide with the new release we'll be relaunching Facebook and encouraging TWP readers to become more involved with the magazine - sending in wrestling pictures and comments, with prizes being awarded to the best ones.

Thanks for reading!

I read the piece on Orton and "The Cynic" piece on Daniels.

On a positive note, it made me hate Fighting Spirit magazine slightly less.

Wowee, you rotter.

Spot on mind. Sadly yet to see anything any better than your standard 411 column with (more) pictures.
PWPgreg
U gits! Although actually quite glad to get some comments, even if negative.

All I can say at this point is that it's still early days and any editorial you feel is not up to par is my fault entirely, been a bit distracted lately. But will try to tidy this up in the future. Still just a fan's effort at the moment, not the professional 'Fighting Spirit' endeavour just yet!

Seriously, if you have any suggestions for future items please let me know. Even if you feel the project is a lost cause I'd still appreciate some input. Nobody's perfect, and I'm probably a bit out of the loop having spat out fanzines over a decade ago. So any hot topics you guys feel have to be included give me a nudge.

Main aim is to not just cover mainstream US stuff, but to create a platform where indy and european wrestling/wrestlers gain some extra exposure..... A nice balance of the popular and the 'niche' - a little something for everybody.

I was actually too harsh before, Greg. The magazine isn't my cup of tea, personally -- I only follow WWE/TNA and I find most wrestling writing (apart from bits of Power Slam, occasionally Rick Scaia's Online Onslaught, and a few members here) not to my taste. But it is very well produced, and the writing is certainly no worse than the average wrestling site. I look forward to seeing the next issue for the Lizzy Valentine stuff (never seen her wrestle, no desire to, but she's gorgeous).

Rick Scaia is fucking dreadful Pity. You're better than that.

Anybody read this latest issue? If so what did you think...

I was very happy to see the Dragon Gate section, it was a decent read and the interviews were spot on. I like the idea of featuring a UK talent in every issue too, especially those that have been around for a while and have experience in other countries.

I enjoyed it, cheers
