Unless I read neil wrong, we need a second thread now that the old one is in Gold. Unfortunately, this coincides with my want to post my IMDB ratings here, and my explanations for them. It also coincides with me watching ...

Antichrist

There is all sorts of horrible shit in this movie, it's sort of hard to pick moments which made me want to turn off more. And I don't mean in the "eeeewwww" way either. I mean the "oh fuck off with this" way. I will admit that it did shock me in the "eeww" way though. One of the main problems with this in the first half is that the leads are monotonous. Willem Defoe is reduced to a boring bastard when really, he is usually great fun to watch. This doesn't help the fact that he's a horrible cunt in this movie. Defoe as a horrible cunt should be good right ? He just gets worse and worse as the movie goes on, but he's just so boring that you don't give a fuck about him anyways, and the same can be said about the female lead as well.

2/10

Minimum score of 1 for any movie seeing as you need to have that, but I did add something for a small child doing a Body Splash from a window ledge at the start.
Steve 'Big' Jobs

This is good, I watch films nearly everyday and always wanted to contribute to the last thread but the massive size of it put me off.

watched `Live Feed`

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481280/

its one of `Poundland`s Halloween DVDs so I wasn`t holding much out for a £1 Horror DVD

The front DVD image caught my attention as it was an immediate `Hostel` rip off, but the big butcher guy looked interesting and for a quid i couldn`t go that much wrong.

Its a pure `hostel` rip off right enough. 5 american tourists head to hong kong and end up in a sex cinema (as most tourists do these days!) just so they can be killed 1 at a time, in a slow and bloody way so some rich business/yakooza guy can watch.

The acting is awful, truely, truely awful, The plot doesnt make sense as characters mysteriously disappear and reappear like paul daniels with no explination and why would you go to a sex cinema in the first place?

BUT

the gore effects are pretty damn good! I`d most compare them to the style of Tokyo Gore Police/Machine Girl, basically lots of squirting blood and you actually see cutting and open wounds.

The Guy on the front box is actually in the film! Probably the biggest bonus of a pound shop dvd is the picture relates to the contents.

theres a ton of extras including directors commentary, edited scenes and making of.

the Poundland version is the full uncut version so theres plenty of flesh and nakedness.

PLUSS EXTRA ADDED SUPERBONUS!!!

the porn film thats shown in the porno theatre in the movie is actually a bonus feature on the dvd! - now dont expect illicit hardcore porn here, its pure soft style, but to actually include the film as an extra is well worth the £1 on its own.

The movie itself has apparently gained some cult following as its not truely shite and there is some sort of pattern to the film so its not a complete waste of 90 minutes.

If you like your women naked, bound, gagged and tortured then its probably the best £1 you`ll ever spend.

Arrrrgggghhhh, there's no apostrophe needed in the plural of DVD.

It's not staying in the title for 450 pages this time. No sir.

Watched Bronson last night. Was it supposed to be a comedy?

Probably the best place for this:

Highlights of the DVD commentary track for Outlaw by Danny Dyer and Nick Love, where they grow increasingly furious as the critical shit-canning it received. Hilarious.

Recently I saw Crank 2, it was lots of fun and stupid. Not as good as the first because that was so fresh and original at the time.. But it's more of the same so you'll definitely be entertained by it if you liked the first one.

I've seen a few films recently I can't remember which ones I already mentioned in my last post in the old thread.. Whatever!

I copied and pasted the original title and just added "#2" to it. I realised that there was no apostrophe needed, but seeing as nobody seemed to care last time, I couldn't be arsed changing it.

It always infuriated me, so I'm glad you've fixed it now.

Recently watch Ed Wood and Fanboys lol.

Really enjoyed Ed Wood, it actually made me look for his Plan 9 from out of Space on internet, found it on youtube, yet to watch it though. Fanboys was oright nothing that special but was enjoyable to watch the once.
Gladstone Small
Ed Wood is brilliant. Never has someone deserved an Oscar more than Martin Landau for playing Bela Lugosi.

It's awful, for sure, but as I now know what an eccentric with a real love for cinema Ed Wood was, I find it hard to rag on the film as much as I used to. For real cinematic pain, watch "Manos: The Hands Of Fate".

Agreed that Martin Landau deserved an Oscar for Ed Wood. A brilliant film.

Goofy, pointless crap, but a fun watch, loved the Juno/Juney rip off, far more entertaining than the original character..

I'm thinking of checking out Noroi (The Curse) tommorow and I'll post my thoughts on it after.

Anyone here seen it?

It sounds like a Japanese Blair Witch (I hate that fucking movie and the sequel was 10x better imo) only better and actually scary/creepy.

Really??? And i'm one of the few people that actually kinda liked the sequel.
Famous Mortimer
Me too. The sequel was quite clever, I thought, and I enjoyed it. But the original film is incredible - if you've seen it for the first time after a decade of fairly cruel parodies then I suppose your opinion would be different.
The King Of Swing
I loved the sequel and the final 10-15 minutes or so was fucking awesome bomb.

THATS FUCKING BULLSHIT thumbs-up.gif

The first movie had a few tense moments but it was nowhere near the "scariest movie ever" tag that had been attached to it and it almost killed horror for me and the only reason I even bothered with the sequel was because my mate paid to see it.
Jimmy_kahoona
the first one was very simlply a well thought out movie. Although it was a rip off of cannibal holocaust (lost footage refound, genuine article)

it quite simply caught peoples imaginations.

cant remember much about the sequel although i think i got the dvd somewhere
Steve Justice
I've always been put off of the sequel. Might actually give it a go now.

It's worth at least one watch and is a pretty trippy and original movie imo.

Good job mentioning cannibal holocaust Jimmy thumbs-up.gif

I fucking love that film. I thought Ashton Kutcher was great and thought the story was very good. I have not seen the sequels though, but I guess they won't be much cop.
KFR42
I loved the priginal blair with. The film had a much more real feel to it because of the use of normal cameras coupled with the massive viral advertising campagn. The sequel was a bit shit IMO, I haven't seen it in a while, but it wasn't as good as the original, not by a long shot.
DEF
I thought I was the only one who loves his Pound Land Hardgore/Film 2000 treasures. Infact I look forward to Halloween because of the influx of all the cracking shitty horror films they get in. This week I to snapped up a copy of Live Feed. I've yet to watch it but that review has inspired me to make it my next . Here is what else I noticed they had on offer/ I bought.

The Jackhammer Massacre
Evil Breed: The Legend of Sam Hain
Dead Man's Hand
Skinned Alive
Sickle
Blood Gnome

They also had 2 Argento films. Puppet Master, Graveyard of the Dolls and Camp Blood 1 & 2.

I suspect people with regular taste in films should probably avoid most of these with the plague. But im the kind of person who baught every cult dvd he could find on Amazon with the word Cheerleader in the title.
LaGoosh
Yesterday I watched Minghags. The story behind this film is that it's from Bam Margera and some of his original video crew (namely the brilliant Brandon Dicamillo) and is a loose sequel to Haggard. Now Haggard is a film that is pretty poorly made and stupid but still manages to be funny and cool despite it's Margera self wankering, directionless plot and and shitty low budget and I consider myself a fan. Minghags however does not follow this trend, it's got about 3 times Haggard's budget (only just over a million dollars though) but seems alot more lower budget that Haggard, and to put it frankly is really fucking shit. It's not funny, the plot is even more dumb than Haggard and doesn't really have a beginning, middle or end. Only one of the characters is in it funny and most of it is just a bunch of retarded skits for Bam Margera to fit all his unfunny friends in. The worst character though is obviously someone trying to do a Raab Himself impression (Raab is not in the movie because him and Bam had a falling out) and everytime he was on screen I wanted to shoot myself in the face due to being the most annoying person ever filmed by a camera. Even the music in this one is shit compared to Haggard and I'm not even a HIM fan(which featured lots in Haggard). I could go on all day but overall, it just doesn't have the jokes, creativity and the low budget charm of Haggard. Avoid at all costs.

I dunno, I didn't watch the sequels because the first one was shit. Just the sex scene with the fit blonde.
bAzTNM#1 Fan
Watched District 9 last night. Well, over two nights.

Watched the first 50 minutes or so on Saturday, and found it a bit of an effort to concentrate on. I suppose it was meant to be like watching news events by channel hopping, but it just got annoying quite quickly. I was tired to called it a night.
Picked up again last night, and was just starting to enjoy it when it finished.

It suffered a bit from "seen it all before" syndrome. Aliens living in slums, Alien Nation. Big hovering mothership over city, Independance Day. A lot of it looked like cutscenes from Halo 2 (and then I read on wiki that Jackson made this after failing to get funding for a Halo movie).
It was enjoyable enough, but I think it could have been more. Wikus and Christopher were neither buddy-buddy enough, or odd couple enough to make their relationship compelling.
SteelEdge
Watched Ghost Town tonight. A decent comedy for what it is, and I did laugh a fair bit, but again Ricky Gervais suffers badly from being cast in a David Brent type role. He just acts the same in every comedy he does. The Office is my favourite sitcom ever, but it just felt like I was watching a film with Brent as the main character.

they just tagged on the name of the previous movie so that people might go see it based on name value, rather than making a linked story from. kind of like S Darko, the 'sequal to Donnie Darko

Smart movies for dumb people could be a thread all to themselves, quite honestly. They do my fucking head in. Well, them and the people afterwards who bang on about how clever the film was. It makes me the very worst level of pretentious I am capable of.

I've watched a few films over the past few days.

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel - Really enjoyed this, but that doesn't surprise me because it's by BBC Films. Basic premise is three friends - one of whom is obsessed with time travel - get caught in a crack in time down the local pub. It's got a small cast (including Anna Faris, who was decent in it and must have sacked her old agent to land a role in a respectable film) and it's maybe a little short, but well worth watching.

Adventureland - Seems to star a guy who is a cross between Michael Cera and Alan Davies. It's one of those films you watch and even though not much happens, and it's not even that memorable, you do enjoy it.

Invasion of the Bodysnatchers - Classic 1950s Sci-Fi about a Doctor in a small Californian town who discovers everyone is being replaced by identical but emotionless copies. Again, it's not too long, and though the plot has been reused many times, the original must have been quite groundbreaking and exciting at the time. I enjoyed it.

Strangers on a Train - I don't think this is as good as loads of other Hitchcock films and it does require some suspension of disbelief. You watch it thinking 'Why does he not just go to the police'. Decent but there are far better Hitchcock films out there.

Based on the line above this film sounds amazing.

I saw Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus the other day. Retarded story, atrocious acting, abysmal accents, appalling sets, ludicrous script and yet ultimately great fun. The dreamy Lorenzo Lamas certainly played a huge part in my enjoyment however the true star of the film was the (apparently) Irish voyeur. Watch with friends only.

That film is an absolute must, The 1978 remake and Abel Ferraras version are also worth a watch. but the original has a few genuine creepy chills in it which is good.

Has anyone else seen The Libertine?

It's about the life of The Earl of Rochester, with Johnny Depp in the starring role. The previews sell it as a raunchy period romp, but really it wasn't in the least bit raunchy or erotic, in fact Rochester came across as a really sad bastard. The whole film felt surprisingly flat for such volatile material, though Depp was good and Samantha Morton was fantastic in the lead female role.

It was also host to some really intrusive music and a very bad sound treatment. It really pisses me off as it's just the sort of British production that gives British sound designers a bad name.
