I saw all of the first 5 Saw movies at the cinema and had the same reaction to them all.
Leaving the cinema I thought "that was a pretty good film" each time, but a few weeks later the only thing I could remember was one or two particularly disturbing scenes.

Went to the cinema to see Up with my daughter the other day. It's not in the league of the really awesome Pixar movies like Toy Story and Cars but it's a really good effort. The animation is first class as you'd expect and the story is creative and well told. The two main characters have good chemistry and are well portrayed. I really liked it. I've downloaded it so we can watch it again.
The short they showed before the film was really good too, it's called "Partly cloudy", it's on youtube.

Anyway, I'm just watching Burn After Reading on my Xbox Sky Player for the first time since catching it a couple of times on the big screen. I think its pretty underrated and went over the majority of peoples heads. I absolutly love black comedies like this and have enjoyed it just as much again tonight.
Brilliant movie, I watched it on a long coach ride from London to sheff and it helped pass the time, Was laughing out loud at Brad Pitt, who is a brilliant actor, comic or otherwise.
The final scene
SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read
with the 2 agents both saying "what the hell happened" was a brilliant way to end the movie, as it was probably the only way to finish the tale.

Personally, I love all the Saw films, with all being enjoyable in their own way.
Saw was a real mind-fuck, especially as it had you convinced that it could be anyone or anything that was causing it. The ending was fantastic.
Saw II was really well done, with a great central premise. Made a change for the "hero" not to save the day as well.
Saw III was a bit muddled at the time, but three films on and they are still explaning the backstory of that film. It also had the most gruesome traps IMO.
Saw IV was fun, especially when you clicked that it was an interlocking story from the last one.
Saw V had the weakest central trap, but the bits wit Hoffman and Strahm was very interesting.
Saw VI was the best since the first one for me. Good acting (for a change), a great plot, good traps and lots more holes filled in.
I can't be the only one who gets tingles when the twist is being revealed and that music starts up...

Watched a film called "deadgirl" which is about 2 guys who go exploring round a disused mental hospital and discover a dead girl behind a locked door.
Except she isn't dead but is in some kind of zombiefied state. So one guy decides to use her as his own personal sex toy. As you would.
Pretty fucked up but worth a watch if you like that sort of thing.

In terms of first date movies, The Men who stare at goats was a wierd choice, but it worked non the less

Ewan Mcgregors American accent is terrible, but It doesnt matter as Clooney, Spacey and especially Jeff Bridges hold the film together, a funny movie that does jump a little bit from subplot to sub plot but overall its a charming and funny movie.

The Host is Korean. It is a cracking monster flick however.
I saw 9 and Jennifer's Body at the cinema yesterday. Both are hollow but have there moments. 9 is visually stunning but has little character development and has a seen it all before feel to its action/adventure aspect. Worth a watch though.
Jennifer's Body could have been quite good in a 80's horror sort of a way but the dialogue is so bad it makes Juno seem realistic. Its also about 20 minutes to long and has a completely unnecessary opening which makes the audience needlessly dislike the lead character. The opening in question also has a voice over filled with the aforementioned cringe worthy dialogue which immediately turned me off. Luckily it did improve with nods to 80's horror which I am quite fond of. Its a mess that really doesn't make sense but Megan Fox carries the idea of the film by being frankly frighteningly hot to the point where its demonic. Throw in some Evil Dead style black vomiting and a bit of blood splatter and for the part of me thats still 14 then its just entertaining enough.

I watched Surrogates, which is most notable for Bruce Willis' hairdo while in the Surrogate role.
I didn't really enjoy the movie that much. Some of the scenes show that there is a premise for a cracking movie here, but this certainly isn't it. Plus, I thought they had too much stuff in a movie which was about 80 minutes long.
Not very good stuff.

It's 'very interesting' because it is, in terms of performances and character devlopment, the equal and opposite of Pacino/De Niro in Heat.
Saw V, which is sadly fresh in my memory because for some reason I watched it on Sky the other week, is quite possibly the most pointlessly awful film in the history of mankind. It seems to spend all of it's time covering stuff that it considers to be interesting/signicant despite the fact that anyone with an IQ over 67 realises that it's bollocks.
They would have been better off cutting everything out and leaving us with just a bunch of random traps, although having said that even they're a bit shit these days - are we supposed to accept that the five victims are all such utter morons that they couldn't grasp the idea that one person could get a key and then undo their lock and then get all of the other keys in about 10 seconds flat? Or that these dickwits can't look at a small tunnel and realise that maybe, just maybe more than one person will fit? And don't anyone come back with some bollocks about how they were chosen because of how selfish they were, being selfish doesn't make you a total moron and doesn't stop you from realising that you can save others at the same time as yourself without any extra risk.

I am ashamed to admit that the other night i went round a friends house and his sister and some other friends ended up watching The Wedding Date. Worst, i got excited by the guy from Coupling was in it (even though it was pointed out he was in pirates of the carribean) and watched it. Terrible chick flick slush. Some alright points, Jack Davenport chasing his best man at the end was alright. Otherwise avoid like the plague.

Just got back from seeing 2012. As expected, the special effects were absolutely brilliant. But nearly everything else was average or poor. Script was pretty much useless, plot holes you could drive a spaceship through, there was only one character I gave a shit about, and it was at least 30 mins too long. They could've cut a lot of the stuff out from when they arrived in China.
Overall, glad I went to see it for the effects, but probably wouldn't see it again. 6/10

I've not seen This Christmas or 88 Minutes but from the others I'd go for Zack & Miri. It's not Kevin Smiths best but it does have some really funny moments. A lot hinges on how likeable you find Seth Rogan?
I thought Twilight was utter shite, over stylised tripe..watch The Lost Boys again. Redbelt is a strange one, I saw it on a plane & picked it due to it being about MMA (supposedly) & being written and directed (I think) by David Mamet. It's not good, feature Tim 'The Toolman' Allen as a gangster & an MMA tournament with bizarre rules such as people having to fight with one arm tied behind their back? As Randy Couture commentates. When it was released both Empire & Total Film gave it decent reviews, I'd have rather watched Best of the Best or King of the Kingboxers again.

Not most of the way, but the last 10 minutes of it certainly do. It's fucking ridiculous.
I watched a movie called Black Sunday about a terrorist plot at the Superbowl. It was pretty tense stuff actually. Especially the awesome climax, which couldn't be ruined by horrible special effects.
I liked Redbelt. It's definatly a different take on a martial arts flick for sure. If you want an action style fight flick go for oldies like Bloodsport. If you want a more serious/drama type movie, Redbelt might be your cup of jah.

Watched Death Note on Film 4 t'other nite, was impressive but way too convoluted for its own good meaning that the umpteen false endings and double swerve was about as satisfyiong as a WCW pay off.. Ruined what in essence had the makings of a good film.
Just finally seen Spidey 2 on five... welll its okay. People have bigged it up as an amazing film but some of the specials look horrendously dated already, and the plot just dragged to be honest. Alfred Molina hamming it up was great, and as much as Kirsten Dunst can act in films, i just wanted to kill MJ

Had the misfortune of watching 2012 last night. Now I wasn't expecting a 5 star classic but I thought at worst it would be an entertaining bit of hokum ala ID4 & John Cusack is usually watchable. It was the worst film of this year, worse than GI Joe : Rise of the Cobra.
Premise is simple enough, the world is about to end due to the earths core heating up & chaos ensues. With a running time of 2hrs 40 mins is it wrong to expect the tiniest bit of character development so you actually care about 1 character before they potentially meet their demise?
It's essentially a long montage of melodrama mixed in with lots of CGI, characters who pop up for 3 minutes making final phone calls to loved ones before being killed, but seeing as you neither know who most of these people are nor care about their relationships with their family members it's just a dull into for boring effects. Maybe I'm just 'over' CGI? When I see big special effects like this I just see effects. There was no 'wow factor' like when the dinosaur jumped up on it's hind legs in Jurassic Park or when the spaceships appeared over the earth in ID4. I was much more impressed with the effects work in District 9. It seemed the aliens interacted with the humans perfectly to the point where I didn't know which were CGI effects & which were men in suits.
There was more soul in the first 15 minutes of 'Up' than in the whole of this stinking turd of a film.

I just took one look at 2012 and thought... nope. I've been really looking forward to the release of the Coen Brothers new film, A Serious Man, which opens tomorrow. Unfortunatly and rather infuriatingly, its not on hardly anywhere because fucking Twilight has about 30 showings a day. The Coen's have only won Oscars and are generally very highly regarded in film, but I guess you can't put that on a lunchbox. So if I can brave all faggy adolescent cretins at the movies tomorrow who'll be seeing that, I might go see Harry Brown which I've heard good things about.
On my flight to New York last week I watched Land of the Lost. I missed it at the cinema because it was only on for a week (which is usually an indicator of the film), but I'm a big Will Ferrell fan so I wanted to watch. It was exactly what I expected really, but shit with some silly laughs. I also watched The Hangover again, I think I could watch that hundreds more times and still laugh as much at it.
