hey guys. Tried the search function and couldn't find a thread for this

wondering if anyone else has Street Fighter IV yet? thoughts etc?smile.gif

particularly after some of the super combos smile.gif

I'm so far loving it. If anyone fancies a game online i've got a Ps3 copy gimme a pm.
JLM
We've been drooling with excitement over it in the 360 thread for a long time. It's also been discussed in WHAT PLAY YOU. Not sure about the PS3 thread as I don't venture in there too often. I've also gone on about it in other non-gaming threads, such is my level of anticipation.

Supercombos, Ultracombos and specials are all listed in the game. It also has a trial mode where you can practice specific combos with each character like in MK vs DC Universe. Except much better obviously, because it's Streetfighter. smile.gif

I still don't have my copy but I expect it on Friday. I found out which places were delivering before Friday a bit too late, and I'm worried about cancelling my order at this stage in the game.
bcwdarkside
Ahhh. I've just been firing through arcade mode. Played 3 games online now. won 2..absolutely demolished with super combos on another haha.

redeemer
got it in the post this morning(as JLM well knows tongue.gif )

Does the anime directly relate to the game? IE Should i watch it before or after the game or does it make no difference? Does anyone know if the ps3 blu ray is full 1080p hd? Really excited for some reason. Usually i'm really indifferent to games but this one is getting me to mark out big time. Do you get to beat up a car in it?

I don't know about the film, but the game is 720 on the PS3.

After lots of online games, completed a couple of the online arcade ones. ryu and chun li's. unlocked Sakura.

Looks fucking brill, can't wait to give it a try myself. Though I don't understand the retardation of SCEE releasing SFII HD remix on PSN TOMORROW. Idiots.
JLM
Yeah I read about that. Why has it taken so long to come out compared to the 360 one anyway?

Also, have any PS3 owners got "Flower" from PSN? I don't own a PS3 but it's one of a handful of things that I really, really envy as PS3 exclusives. Some day...

I don't think there's any staff at SCEE at all. I think it was all setup via Ken Kutaragi's CMS in 1999, and things are just playing out according to a schedule drawn up ten years ago.

It's utterly maddening - over Christmas I would've loved some HD SFII action, but now I'm more brassicy (like a cabbage) and given the choice of purchasing SFII (which I own in several flavours already) or brand spanky new SFIV, in the same week. Pointless.

It got 10 out of 10 on Teletext and they said it's the best multiplayer game EVER! Is it that good?
KrAzY
Mine only got dispatched from Play.com today. The quickest delivery I've ever had from them was 3 days sad.gif
redeemer
play.com suck, use shopto.net much better and you get the games on wednesday before the release date

This is not the first time in recent months that I've seen Teletext quoted as the source for gaming reviews/news..

What's the deal? Do they have quite a good gaming section then or what?
JLM
Some people think so. I tend to disagree rather strongly. Then again, I don't rate much of the gaming press these days. I like GamesTM, but still take their reviews with a huge pinch of salt because they often have this magazine-wide agenda that is clearly affecting the scoring on certain games.

Also, ohmygod tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow ohmygodohmygodohmygod.

I'm concerned though, my Amazon order is still "dispatching soon". The delivery date is down for 20th of Feb and I'm using that Amazon Premium 1 day delivery thing, but it needs to go out this afternoon to make me feel better. The Fightpad is on "not dispatched yet", though I'm not that surprised. Major shortages worldwide on that front, though I spoke to Amazon this morning and confirmed that they are indeed separate packages and a delay to the pad will not delay the game.

I have my Hori EX2 fighting stick now anyway. It's bloody brilliant. Clickety clickety click. Tap-a-tap-tap-a. Clickety click. Most satisfying indeed.
Mattyc
The fact that teletext gave it a 10/10 review is good I would say. I’ve always found them to be extra harsh on many games, plenty of good games have not been given the scores they deserve in my opinion, but teletext aside just a good look around the internet on pretty much any gaming forum you can find as well as review sites like ign, gamespot, and gametrailers confirm the shared view of this games greatness.

My game has been dispatched by Amazon and it’s due tomorrow. Bring it on!

I haven’t bought a joystick or fight pad yet, I am going to see how I fair with the normal controller first, I imagine the controls will be a bigger factor online as I would obviously be at a huge disadvantage against somebody with a joystick or fight pad, I don’t plan on playing online until I get somewhere close to decent, then if I feel the need I will order a fight pad.

Browsing various forums over the past few days I have been reading many horror stories about one of the new characters, I think a few days from now Seth may be the subject of many posts in this thread.
JLM
Yeah, apparently Seth follows the great tradition of fighting game bosses and is a cheap-ass bastard.

As for the pad thing, the 360 pad isn't nearly as unplayable as some people make out with 2D fighters, but it's definitely worse than playing with a specialised bit of equipment. I've been playing SSF2HDR with it for a long time now and I'm pretty much used to it, but have been happy to switch to the stick and look forward to trying out the fightpad. The problem on the microsoft pad is that the imperfections that are there can really cost you when you're playing a competitive game. On the fightstick, I can perform 20 Dragon Punches in a row. On the Pad, It'd be more like 18 out of 20. It only goes wrong very infrequently because the diagonals are funky on the pad, but it only needs to fuck up once in a match and you're eating a combo.

I use dragon punch as an example because it's anti-air. If someone's jumping in and you decide to use it, then you absolutely need to get it out the first time and at the right time. If it fails at all then you'll end up doing a standing punch that most likely won't knock them out of their jump and then they can hit you with whatever flurry they had lined up.

A massive misconception about beatemups is that knowing all the moves is what makes you good. What makes you good is knowing exactly when, where and how best to use the moves and subsequently when not to use them, when to defend, when to counter and to know which moves are actually not very useful at all.

By this point the inputting should be absolutely second nature. If you can't do a move every single time without fail (or as near to it as humanly possible), then it's better to cut it out of your gameplan entirely and use what you can do effectively, or practice it until it works without fail. The 360 pad d-pad doesn't allow for this, because sometimes it will fail you even if your execution seems flawless. Charging a Blanka ball only to see him jump forward instead of go into the roll is immensely frustrating, especially as you'll have no plan in mind for this jump and end up flying into an attack and looking like a clueless goon.

Fei Long in the original SSF2 Turbo was considered one of the worst characters in the game for competitive play, simply because top players all realised that the input for one of his moves (and one that was key to using him well) was such a pain in the arse that it made the move impractical to use due to the failure rate. If the pad is hampering your ability to use a character to their full potential, then that character can be similarly crippled.

*Nods sagely* absolutely, he's a real missed opportunity. I really liked the idea of the Rekka Ken, it's just trying to get in close enough to use it sad.gif Looking forward to see how he's been re-tooled.

The character that sprung to mind in this discussion was Billy Kane, hamstrung by horrid upward diagonals.
JLM
Ah, well, if you play HD Remix (get it anyway, you know you want to wink.gif), then you'll see that the tweaks they've made to Fei Long have unlocked his potential.

His overhead flying kick dealy (which was annoying to the point of being useless) is now far, far simpler to do and gives him an evil rushdown game if in the right hands. The input time on the second and third Rekkas is more forgiving also. On SSF2HDR I use Blanka as my main, and Fei Long is an absolute nightmare opponent for him. A blocked blanka ball can be contered with all three Rekkas and it's totally devastating. Yang in SF3 still has a more sensibly thought out Rekka Ken equivalent, with the slashing effect giving it a bit more range and making it more practical. Plus the EX version is a thing of beauty.

They've done other fun stuff too. Doing Honda's torpedo with jab does a modified version that passes through fireballs, making him far stronger against the shotokans. Balrog has been nerfed a little but is still deadly in the right hands. So many little differences you'll notice over time.

Mine arrived from Play.com this morning (pre-ordered for £27.99, winner) Might ring in sick tomorrow.

I'm way (well, a day) ahead of ya. thumbs-up.gif I don't often buy games on release so it's still a novelty to say that.

As far as Teletext's games section (GameCentral) goes, I find them pretty reliable, though I've been reading long enough to know when certain things they say will differ to my own opinion. Incidentally, they ran a viewer feature of mine a few weekends ago.

Bioshock springs to mind.

I'd say Edge is by far the best in terms of reviews, it's very rare that I've encountered a review in Edge that's lead me in the wrong direction. It's by no means the be all and end all of my decision making process but if a big game ends up with a 6 in Edge I'm far more cautious about buying it.

Heres some hope for those that ordered from play.com. I ordered the collectors edition Tuesday morning, it was posted yesterday and arrived special delivery this morning. Haven't touched it yet but i can't wait. A little disappointed the anime wasnt in a proper blu ray case like the US version was but its not the end of the world.

Mine came today, awesome cool.gif

Got mine too and really wished I'd cancelled what I am doing tonight now lol....Still hopefully back for 8.30pm so plenty of gaming time there biggrin.gif

I saw some guy playing it in HMV today. It's looks pretty good and as I read that some of you have already got your copy, perhaps you could depart some info on how it plays and which version is better, cause I'm still like this unsure.gif
Vito
If Sakura's a playable character then I need to play this. I used to enjoy using her to destroy my friends favourite characters on Multiplayer.
Just Me
Anyone missing their favourite characters might be interested to read this.
His_Airness
Except that T Hawk is one of the worst characters in the history of street fighter lol
JLM
Indeed. When they were deciding what tweaks to make to everyone for SSF2 HD Remix, they consulted top players with every character, and T. Hawk was the only guy who didn't have any consultants discussing him. He's poor. Very poor. Still some terrific players with him online though.

Dee Jay is good, but it'd take a fair bit of demand because Capcom don't particularly like using the character. The talk of Ibuki and other SF3 characters is what interests me more. Yung, Yang, Dudley, Elena, plenty of characters I'd love to see return.
Paul
Spent about an hour on it last night and I love it. Instantly, I felt like I was back to the old school but with enough new school flair to make it well worth buying. For me, this is all about the multiplayer and when I have more time over the weekend, I'm definitely going to be doing a serious session online. Once I've played it more I'll probably be able to provide more of a detailed critique, but on face value, it's great smile.gif

Fuck. I just got my paycheque.. I might have to leave my wallet in the office when I go out at lunchtime to stop me from buying this (I will get it at some point, but I'd rather pay a tenner less for it by ordering it offline, but I'm not sure I have that much self control)..

I may be doing it a dis-service but it's a £27 game rather than a £40 game, if you see what I mean? Don't pay over the odds for it and just buy it online mate.
DEF
Its freaking awesome. It really reminds me of how i felt playing SF2 Turbo all those years ago. Proper nostalgia fest but not in a play once a year sort of a way, i mean i wana play it so much i had a dream about playing it last night. It really is a must play for fans of the SF snes days. I absolutely love the online play. Ive had 8 fights and only lost 1 so far.
Paul
Is it worth us getting a topic together for XBox360 Gamertags, seperate from the main 360 thread? That way we can easily find each other for some SFIV fun times.

Sure.. I think a lot of places are doing some kind of release date promo anyway.. so if it is £30 or under when I go out I'll probs pick it up but otherwise I'll take your advice and be patient! (this is all depending on if there's any copies left by the time I get out there anyway; there's an awful lot of hype around the game right now)

Another good reason to save the cash is if I do get really into the game I'll probably end up having to shell out for a fightpad, if the 360 pads are as useless as everyone says they are.
Dead Mike
Played for a couple of hours last night. Love the way that long time SF players can jump straight in but there appears to be enough new stuff to give the game legs. Not managed to take full advantage of the focus attacks yet, when & how to use them effectively etc but creamed when I did my first 17 hit Ultra Combo finish.
Finished the arcade mode on medium last night & started going through some of the time trials etc which unlock different colour costumes.
Zangief seemed to do 360 piledrivers on me at will & I'm unsure about having to press LK & LP to do a throw, especially when you're used to being able to throw a character after a well timed block by just using HP or HK.
IMO E Honda & Zangief are the best looking characters, wasn't keen on Rufus but only used him a couple of times, Chun Li seems a little slower too.
Hooking up with a bunch of mates tomorrow afternoon to really kick the arse out of multiplayer, this is where it'll shine.

Mattyc
I’ve just defeated him but it has to be said Zangief is an absolute beast on this game. If you get near him you’re pretty much finished. It came as a shock to me how hard he was as he has always been a walkover in past Street Fighter games.
JLM
Abel's AI routine is absurd. He does the same command throw almost endlessly.

Seth is cheap as hell, but you expect that from the boss.

This game is so fucking good. Not prepared to say that it's better than Third Strike, but it is absolutely brilliant.

Unlocked Gen, Fei Long, Cammy, Sakura and Rose so far. The new adaptations of all of them are superb. Fei Long has more Bruce Lee mannerisms than ever and the effects for all of Rose's old scarf moves are dazzling.
Chest Rockwell
Dude.. Once I get vaguely competant at this game I'm going to approach you online like a sensei in an old school kung fu flick and ask you to train me up like you did your recent protege..

I will even prove myself worthy of training by doing tasks 'n shit.

Got it from Asda on my lunch break for £26.98, can't fucking wait to go online with it later
