It was planned. It's in Foley's book. Funk coming down was of course to allow Foley recovery time, but that was probably planned too.

In his book I swear he claims that the bump through the cell was unplanned. I find that hard to believe though.

He says Funk took the chokeslam to bide some time, but I dont think that was planned at all. Just a veteran using his brain.

I think you're right. He doesn't shed a whole lot of light on the match in his book, cos i remember it was one of the things are really wanted to read about. They must of had a few things planned for the match, with the possibility that Mick Foley wouldn't be able to continue or do very littel after the 1st or 2nd bump.
Loki
I will buy that the first bump off the cage through the table was planned, but I won't buy that the chokeslam through the cage was, it's just way too dangerous. When they DID do that spot, in their next cage match, they had a gimmicked ring so that he took a bump into some padding - that suggests very strongly that the first one was a mistake.

IMO Foley was exceptionally lucky not to die that night.

I reckon the chokeslam was planned, cos he didn't even leave his feet. I think knowing that it probably would of killed him if he took a normal chokeslam bump. I still think the 1st bump was more dangerous. Theres no room for error on his landing.
Reznor
I always reckoned it was planned too. Mainly because you see Undertaker carefully walking across the beam and avoiding the mesh whilst passing the edge of that section, and the fact that as hellacious as it looked, Foley still took the bump almost perfectly. It was also convenient that three sides of it completely gave way leaving one to act as a hinge like a trapdoor. And the cameras had already begun to zoom out before he had fell through the mesh, as though they were anticipating it.

In addition, if it was unplanned we would definitely have heard more about the aftermath of it. That would've been a pretty major health & safety breach, and Foley could have probably sued the WWF for more than he was ever going to make over the rest of his career with them.
Reznor
double post, sorry

Or that it hurt a lot more than Foley thought it would, so the next time he did it there was stuff to break his fall.

Terry says they were both planned then. But the cage roof shouldnt have opened so easily.
Reznor
Out of interest, what injuries during that match were attributed to what bump? In that extract, Funk gives the impression he got away pretty lightly from the first one.

I always thought the timing of the bumps in that match made it all the more insane. You'd think if someone was crazy enough to do something like that, they'd at least make sure it was their last act and they wouldn't need to put themselves through the additional agony of working on and doing more crazy spots for a few minutes. Even forgetting the chokeslam, that backwards 'piggy back' bump would surely be bloody sore as well, even if it wasn't on to tacks.

Was it not just that the chair hitting his face when he hit the mat that was unplanned. Think I read that in coleus book or the powerslam interview just after

Yes sir, his entire wiki page doesn't say a good deal about his retirement.

QUOTE
Gary Steele is a retired British professional wrestler, who has competed in European and North American promotions and has been a popular longtime mainstay of NWA UK Hammerlock since the mid-1990s. A former Southern UK Champion, Steele was involved in a series of strap matches with rival Guy Thunder during the late 1990s and has occasionally teamed with Jake "the Snake" Roberts. A trained submission wrestler and martial artist, Steele also appeared at the Pro Wrestling ZERO-ONE PPV supercards "Fighting Athlete" in March 2001 and True Century Creation II in March 2002.

While competing in the United States with the National Wrestling Alliance, Steele defeated Naoya Ogawa in a three way match with Brian Anthony in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 25, 1999 to become one of the youngest wrestlers to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship although he lost the title back to Ogawa one week later in Thomaston, Connecticut on October 2.

He was managed by "Business Advisor to the Stars" Mike White (now working as a Sports Journalist for BBC Radio Humberside) at one stage.

Returning to Great Britain, he became the first NWA United Kingdom Heavyweight Champion after defeating Johnny Moss in a tournament final at Telford Shropshire, England on November 2, 2001.

Almost two years after Ogawa had vacated the title, Steele lost to then NWA World Champion Shinya Hashimoto in a round robin triangle match with Steve Corino at McKeesport, Pennsylvania on December 15, 2001.[1]

I wonder if we'll get WWE's own network at this point.

Watching Heroes of World Class and The Triumph and Tragedy of World Class, I couldn't help but notice Jake Roberts in the background of some scenes, most notably in interviews with Chris Adams and/or Gino Hernandez but a quick look on wiki shows up nothing, I'm pretty sure it was definately him, to what extent was his stint in WCCW?

After just watching Beyond The Mat, they showed some clips of Droz vs New Jack in ECW. When did this happen? Did Droz have any other matches in ECW?

I always mean to ask this but forget, on one of the early Smackdowns of 2000 was a cage match between the Outlaws and Hardys. Now, has my mind played a decade long trick on me or did Road Dogg perform a moonsault in said match by running up the three turnbuckles and jumping straight off? I ask cos I was amazed to be honest and haven't seen him do the same since or previous. Any footage?

Mine arrived in the post today, dates have changed next one available 7th July.
BxB Hulk
Aye I noticed the dates had changed after I wasted a journey into town last week to buy it thinking it was out end of the month as usual.
ThePhenom
PS said on their Twitter that they had a problem that set them back a day. I managed to pick up a copy this morning, after going to Smith's and it not being their yesterday.

How much do wrestlers in Japan earn? Is it anywhere near the money you would make in WWE or is it closer to Indie levels of pay? Or somewhere in between?

I've got Freeview with a Top-Up TV box so as far as Sky Sports goes I can only get 1 & 2. Will I still be able to catch Raw and Smackdown at some point during the week on either channel?

I have Virgin and the only HD channels you get from Sky Sports is 1 and 2. I was moaning cause I never got WWE in HD, then one day I had SmackDown in HD, another I had Raw. Really can't remember which days it was mate, but they are defo shown on their at some point.

A few years back I remember watching a tribute video about the NWA/WCW, set to the theme tune of Green Day's 'Time of your life'

Anyone else remember it or have a link to the vid?

I think in 2002 when Hogan came back, he had a match with Ric Flair on RAW? Am I imagining this or did it actually happen? Im not sure if it was for the Undisputed Title, but i think it wasnt even the main event on the show.

Anyone have a link to the match at all and maybe the build up? From what I remember though, there wasnt much build up and the match just sorta happened..

Thats the one mate cheers. Looked at youtube for a while and couldn't find it at all laugh.gif

Was weird how it just got stuck on as a seemingly throwaway match, could have made a bigger deal out of it IMO, would probably of been better than the awful Undertaker/Hogan match around that time.

Just been watching Royal Rumble 1992 again. During the Bushwhackers vs the Beverly bros match I have always wanted to know who Jameson was? Was he involved in WWF back in the day etc. Some classic lines from Heena during the match e.g Bobby Heenan: "The only bad thing about wrestling the Bushwackers is win lose or draw, everything you have to have everything you have on fumigated." classic.

1) Is Raw 3 hours tonight?
3) If so, does Tough Enough start an hour before Raw? I'm thinking of streaming it.
