I always thought it was Brogue Kick - playing on brogue either being able to mean a strong Irish accent (which Sheamus has) or a type of shoe (when the move is basically a big shoe in the face)

On a similar note what was Sheltons Benjamins finisher at the end of his WWE run called? Always thought it was 'Pay Dirt' but could never be sure.

You would be correct, good sir.

Just watched that You Bet! video. Jesus, what a fashion-intolerant nation we were. confused.gif
Smegma Cake
My surprise with that video is how small Davey Boy looked compared to the ginger kid. Height wise obviously.

Watching an old WWF show from 1988, and Superstar Graham on commentary says that “you have a 20 count out there” and Shaun Mooney agrees. Lord Alfred Hayes fails to contradict them also. Did the WWF ever employ a 20 count out of the ring?

I'm pretty sure they did during the 80s, maybe even into the early 90s. I might be wrong but I think the 20 count was the tradition back in the day

I've been watching since 1991 and I don't ever remember there being a 20 count in that time. I remember when computer games had a 20 count I always found it strange, so perhaps it was something that was phased out just before I started watching.

Never to my knowledge. There are episodes of MSG Classics covering the late '70's and it still ends on a count of ten outside of the ring.

I may well be very wrong then laugh.gif

I don't suppose anyone has a YouTube (or otherwise) clip of the You Bet! episode which had the kid on doing the wrestling challenge where he identified the matches from a tiny snippet of commentary / footage. As a reward and surprise the Bulldog appeared at the end and the look on the boys face was absolutely magical. I wouldn't mind seeing that again.

I remember that. I just remember it being amazingly easy any pretty much any wrestling fan would have done it. That was of course when there were only 4 Pay Per Views a year. Would be harder now I guess.

You Bet is on Challenge at the weekends, I series linked it for months until this one came around as I couldn't find it anywhere else. You just have to sit tight and it will show up.

When we moved house recently, my wife -- whilst carrying many heavy boxes -- asked if there was really any need to keep DVDs of stuff I taped off the telly nearly 20 years ago. To her I can now reply:

You Bet!

You are an absolute gentleman sir. Thanks for taking the time to upload and post that up; much appreciated.

That was great, many thanks for the upload Mr. Lister, the kids face when he realised it was Bulldog biggrin.gif

Is Todd Grisham still employed by WWE?

I say this because I was watching LA Galaxy/New York Red Bulls on ESPN last night and he was doing the coverage.
Smegma Cake
He works both.

Ive been watching some WCW today from around '98 and was wondering what the origins of Lodi coming out with signs was?

Was this something Bischoff seen Sign Guy Dudley doing and decided to copy? Or was there another reason?

No idea if this has been asked so apologies in advance.

Anyway on the old VHS release of the 1989 Survivor Series Barry Windham is on the back cover as a member of one of the teams (forget which team) but for some reason does not appear on the show at all.

Anyone know what the score is with that? all I know for sure is that he was in the WWF at around that time.
RepoMan
From his Wikipedia page:

"World Wrestling Federation, second run (1989)
Windham returned to the WWF in 1989 as the Widowmaker. Despite the nickname, Windham did not change his image much, portraying a heel cowboy type character. The Widowmaker was to have been on Randy Savage's Survivor Series team, but he left the company due to undisclosed personal reasons. Windham's father and brother were actually getting ready to go to jail on counterfeiting charges so he asked the WWF for his release. He was replaced by Earthquake in the match. On March 16, 1990, he attempted to challenge AJPW Triple Crown champion Jumbo Tsuruta, but was defeated."

Just checked in the Observer from the time, and Windham didn't compete on the show as he was still recovering from having a tumor removed from his chest.

The interesting bit is that he had been missing shows for two months leading up to the event, but Titan continued to advertise him knowing full well he wouldn't be able to compete on the show. He was scheduled to be a member of Randy Savage's King's Court, but ended up being replaced by the Canadian Earthquake.

How come when Goldberg's on a WWE dvd they dub his theme with the shit WWE version, but when he's on Vintage collection they let him have his original theme?. Is there more royalty money to be paid for when it's dvd?.

Please can someone provide me to a link to the site with the WWF results archive? I’m looking for a match listing for the show from 11/9/88

Was ECW the first promotion to put on shows at Viking Hall?

I know it became synonymous with them, becoming known as the ECW Arena, but, were they the first there?

You should really start a thread about that. Seems like an interesting discussion (especially considering how we've seen Eric Bischoff help run TNA in 2010).

No, Joel Goodhart's Tri-State Wrestling Alliance held at least one card there in the early 1990s.

Odd questions but i've been taking an interest in weekly WWE stuff again recently. Obscure question but other than Barrett has anyone from Nexus spoken when they have been on RAW ?
The Curious Orange
On the Raw when they beat up Vince McMahon - they all did a promo where they apologised/explained their actions of the previous weeks and had a chance to speak.

On a regular basis, there's a definite pecking order. Barrett always gets to speak, then usually Sheffield and Tarver do. Otunga does if he's lucky. The other three are generally mute.
RepoMan
I'm surprised they let Sheffield talk as much as they do. His accent does make him seem stupid. Same with Slater, and Gabriel struggles to make sense.

I like Tarver's intensity, and Darren Young is fine on the mic but no one cares. Otunga should be the most charismatic bar Barrett but he needs practice.
CleetusVanDamme
When's big Ezekiel due back?, I miss him.
RepoMan
I believe it was estimated at 6 months originally, so around October.
thesimonbegz
On the Bound For Glory 2010 commercial it states 'an event so big it only happens once a century'. Is this a really stupid mistake they can't be arsed fixing?

It's a silly bit of advertising, but I believe they are referring to the date being 10.10.10 (Oct 10th 2010)

Has anyone got the link for the forum they put in Powerslam ? Cheers

What is more worth wasting £50 or so on, the complete 1996 and 1997 years of WCW Monday Nitro, or the year 2003 of Raw and Smackdown?
RepoMan
Nitro was good .. Smackdown was good .. Raw not so much .. tricky really.
CleetusVanDamme
Raw was steaksauce in 2003.

Hollywood Rock
Goldberg
The Kevin Nash vs HHH feud
The start and rise of Evolution
Shawn Michaels getting back to his best
Good tag division
Kanes unmasking, and subsequent monster push.

I'd avoid Smackdown 2003 like the plague, painfully boring, predictable, and few if any memorable angles.
Mick
Anyone got any idea what draws better ratings on a Friday night? Smackdown or Impact?

Definately go for Nitro, from mid 96 the show truely gets great and shows why WCW was on top for so long, you have the nWo, the cruiserweights, great tag division, the big stars and the young and up and coming talent like Rey, Eddie, Jericho etc putting on some great matches. Also some great feuds like Sting-Hogan and DDP-Savage and of course nWo-WCW
PowerButchi
Definately Nitro. Nitro will have plenty of THIS.

I've got a Nitro 98 season pack sitting here collecting dust, do I need Thunder 98 set to make sense of things or will I be ok to just stick with the Nitros? Got all the PPVs aswell, but its been 12 years since I last saw these.

I've started watching Nitro from when the 'Outsiders' arrived. Fantastic stuff fair play.
