With the risk of sounding stupid here, I ask this. I'm currently watching Hogan vs Undertaker at The Survivor Series 1991 and Gorilla Monsoon is saying something along the lines of "this one will go down in the record books".

Do WWE actually have a record book where they take note of who won what in any given year?
PowerButchi
I imagine the PWI Almanac and Graeme Hawthorns site does all that for them. Mind you though, they'd record old posters, and they used to film MSG, Spectrum, Maple Leaf and Boston Gardens so they probably film over places. And every House show had the same match, so it's all easy to work out for dates and shows.
Wretch
Right so. Just wondering, didn't find the answer online. Thought someone here might know.
JNLister
I don't know if they keep a formal archive of every match. In theory they'd have the line-ups and finishes for each house show between the booking sheets and the agent reports, though there's no real reason to keep those other than for financial records.

They do have a catalogue of all the matches they've filmed and kept on tape. I'd suspect those have finishes listed so, for example, you could hunt down matches where a particular wrestler won (if you needed the clips for a highlight package.)

Do you think if Big Daddy, and Giant Haystacks, were still around? Do you think somebody would book them over here?

60's, helluva fat, can hardly move.
dopper
Big Daddy retired 5 years before he died so even if he was still alive he wouldn't be working.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that he would now be 79 years old.

Haystacks, however, wrestled up until he got cancer. And in 2008 he would be 62 years old, so if Kendo can do it it's not totally inconceivable to think Haystacks could still have the occasional match.
LariatTom
Having just watched ECW One Night Stand 2005 (I got the DVD yesterday because it was going cheap), I'm wondering if it was only the Sandman's music that was replaced for the DVD. It seemed strange having guys like Mysterio and Jericho coming out to their WWE theme...especially when they mention Jericho being "Lionheart" and not "Y2J".
JNLister
No, Sandman was the only one to have his 'original' music. They didn't bother with the added costs of licensing the commercial music for everyone, but in his case it was considered worth the money because it was so key to his character. When it came to the DVD (which would have meant a separate fee), they obviously decided it wasn't worth the extra money.

He and Axl came out to Big Balls, but I think it was the version Balls made of himself singing it, thus avoiding paying the royalties on the AC/DC version.
Lee
The Dudley's theme was dubbed on the DVD from the live version (pay-per-view used Powerman 5000 I think and the DVD has an in-house WWE Dudley's theme, neither being their ECW music).
JNLister
Just checked and Mahoney's music is entirely instrumental. I think it loops where the lyrics should kick in, so it may be an in-house knock off done for the night like Dreamer has as well.

By 'just checked' I mean 'put disc in and watched in entirety and is now 4am'.

Anybody remember the XPW Reunion show that was supposed to happen? Did it happen? and anybody got any results? Thank you.
klown
XPW ran its “Cold Day in Hell” reunion show Saturday night in Los Angeles . While fine for nostalgia, the show was pretty weak in terms of both work rate and production, and the organizers are going to have to do some pretty heavy editing before releasing this show on DVD and pay-per-view, both of which are in the plans.

The event started with a two-hour fanfest inside the arena, which was actually a basketball gym on the property of the Northrup Grumman corporation. Although the fanfest was advertised as both an autograph session and Q&A, only the former turned out to be true – there was no Q&A, although I suppose if you wanted to ask a question to one of the wrestlers while receiving a $10 autograph (on top of the $20 admission price), you could. Some wrestlers, including Vampiro and Kaos, did not appear to be charging for autographs and photos. One fan asked Vampiro and Kaos to pose for a photo together, but not wanting to break kayfabe (they faced each other at the show), Vampiro refused.

There was some confusion regarding when the fanfest was supposed to end and the show itself was to begin. Eventually the doors opened at 7:20 p.m., only 10 minutes before the scheduled start of the show. By the time people were seated and the event was getting under way, it was already 8:15. Two guards were wearing Atlas Security shirts. The rest were just wearing generic “Security” shirts.

“Cold Day In Hell” started with a Dynamite D Memorial battle royal. The first participant was introduced to the crowd, but then everyone else just started walking down the aisle without any intros. By the way, there was a simple stage at the top of a small ramp. The building also featured large-screen projections, but for some reason, none of the live action was shown all night.

The battle royal featured several Latino wrestlers working a cholo gimmick, probably to try and pop the local crowd. The crowd favorite, though, was a skinny Asian wrestler whom everyone tried to eliminate. When he was finally thrown over, the building erupted in boos. The eventual winner, Carnage, won by setting on fire his taped hand, then punching his final opponent over the top rope. He gave his winner's trophy to D's mother, who was in the crowd.

Up next was the Miss Xtreme competition, which didn’t seem to have any clear rules. Even though the XPW web site advertised eight contestants, five girls came out, and were asked to perform an “extreme talent.” The first girl gave someone a lap dance; the second one took off her top to reveal nothing but an “X” taped across each of her breasts. The third contestant claimed to be able to chug a beer, but ended up choking on it, much to the dismay of the fans. The fourth girl wore a schoolgirl outfit, and truly went extreme by having a male companion pull up her skirt and spank her repeatedly with a glove wrapped in barbed wire. The girl was noticeably bleeding from her upper legs for the remainder of the segment. Finally, the fifth contestant tried to cut a heel promo about how she didn’t have to do any stunts in order to impress anyone, and proceeded to attack the other girls.

It was now 8:40, and it looks like this is where the main card started. Kris Kloss came out and introduced the first match, which was Kaos against Vampiro. Kaos cut a promo saying that, in the old days of XPW, this was the point in the show where Shane Douglas would come out and start complaining. He then put himself over for a while, until Vampiro emerged with no music or intro. The match started, and after several minutes of exchanging chops and punches, Vampiro cracked a package of fluorescent light bulbs over Kaos’ back. With blood running down Kaos’ back, and shattered glass all over the mat, the two brawled out into the crowd, with Kaos eventually going through a table. After probably about 10-15 minutes of slow, plodding action featuring lots of overly deliberate action, Kaos won with a clean pin.

The next wrestler to come out (no pun intended) was Angel – or, as he refers to himself, Angel the Hardcore Homo. Angel announced that it was his birthday, and led the crowd in singing to him. His scheduled opponent, GQ Money, said he couldn’t wrestle due to injury, but said he’d left several birthday gifts on the stage for Angel. One of them literally blew up in Angel’s face, and a second wrestler – Brawlin’ Bo Cooper – came out to start beating Angel down. The match then got confusing, as Cooper and Money both spent time wrestling Angel one on one. Angel ended up doing lots of openly gay spots, including exposing his rear end and delivering both a bronco buster and stinkface. After being chased to the back, Money later re-emerged as a disguised cameraman, spitting a fireball into Angel’s face to get the win. Afterward, as Money and Cooper beat Angel down, Kraq ran out to make the save.

J. Love was out next, and was complaining that the ring was a mess (there was still lots of broken glass). Love yelled for someone to come clean the ring, and Leroy showed up with a broom. As he cleaned up, Love cut a promo on Pogo the Clown, who showed up and went after Leroy. Several “fans,” all of whom were coincidentally wearing T-shirts from a local wrestling school, ran in and attacked Pogo, who in turn ran through them all. Love got back on the mic and said she had someone else who would take care of Pogo. Sandman emerged from the audience, kendo stick in hand, and went to work on Pogo. The bell rang, so apparently this was now an official match. The two beat each other up for a while, before Love came in and blasted Pogo several times with the cane. Sandman hit him with a side Russian leg sweep and got the pin. Afterward, Sandman celebrated with a case of Budweiser. “Enter Sandman” did not play in the building.

Terry Funk came out next, and was set to guest-referee the co-main event. Funk told the crowd that Sabu, who had been scheduled, had suffered a cracked vertebra in his neck, so Funk would not allow him to compete. Sabu then walked toward the ring, but was escorted back by security. Funk announced there would be a replacement, who turned out to be a guy named Concussion. He was to team with Homeless Jimmy against Raven and White Trash Johnny Webb.

Raven was great on the mic, running down Funk and then actually doing live commentary while standing on the ring apron. At one point, once he started to wrestle, Raven attacked Funk, bloodying his forehead. During the match, Sabu again tried to enter the ring, only to be escorted out again. The match turned into a really good and fun plunder bout, including a great table spot outside, before Homeless Jimmy pinned Webb with a DDT onto a chair.

The next bout was a six-man tag, featuring Team Revolution Pro (Ron Rivera, Disco Machine and Joey Ryan) against Team XPW (Jardi Franz, Vinnie Massaro and…special surprise guest X-Pac). Pac got a good pop, and came out to the DX music. He’s also developed quite a gut. The match was OK, and ended when the Vince McMahon impostor, Mr. McPhenom and former ECW star CW Anderson, who attacked X-Pac on the floor. Disco Machine won for his team by pinfall, but afterward X-Pac laid out Anderson, then gave McPhenom an X-Factor. It was a play off of the ECW-XPW brawl at Heatwave. X-Pac then got on the mic and said that he is back from the dead, then told us that he’s got two words for us.

The next bout was a three-way bout between Luke Hawx, Scorpio Sky and Jack Evans. From a workrate perspective, this was a really entertaining bout. It was exciting and well paced, with some really good, athletic work. This was the best match of the night, by far. Hawx picked up the win.

The Westside NGZ, who were advertised as wrestling the reunited Gangstas, started off by taking on another team instead. This bout ran for several long, boring minutes, with the crowd crapping all over the weak action. Finally, the Gangstas’ music hit, and New Jack and Mustafa hit the ring with a trash can full of weapons. They cleaned house on the Westside NGZ, and that was it for the “match.” The tag team that had been wrestling the Westside NGZ tried to praise the Gangstas, but Jack and Mustafa then turned on them, and beat the guys down, both inside and outside the ring, for probably at least 10 minutes. New Jack used a fork on his opponent. The brawl spilled way into the back of the crowd, making it hard for 90 percent of the audience to see what was happening, but when it was all over, New Jack came back to the ring bleeding a gusher. He then started into an endless promo about the team’s history and how they refused to sell out to the bigger organizations. Jack ripped into both Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman. He closed by announcing he was done in the ring and to watch your cable TV screens to see him soon. He was referring to some sort of reality series that Big Vision is shopping around.

The final match advertised for the evening was a no-ropes barbed-wire death match between Supreme and the Necro Butcher. They had Beds of Light Tubes and Mouse Traps. If you liked blood and violence, this was for you as both took insane amounts of punishment and the crowd loved it.

Overall, the work was slow, the pacing was off, and the crowd wasn’t even that hot. To his credit, Sabu actually showed up for the event, and of course he should protect his health, but the crowd was more than a little disappointed to have him advertised to compete, only to not wrestle after all. XPW actually received word a week ago and was originally going to change the match listing, but Sabu demanded they let him feel it out and see if he could work. As it turned out, he couldn't.

It’s not clear whether XPW intended for “Cold Day In Hell” to be a one-night-only thing, as was advertised on the event poster, or whether the promotion actually plans to start running shows again. Unless XPW can somehow make this event look good on camera, it’s hard to imagine that this was the event the company needed to put itself back on the map.

Notes: Mikey Whipwreck was booked a surprise but no showed. XPW attempted to reach him, only to find his cell phone disconnected...The entire show was shot in HD and is planned as Big Vision Entertainment's first-ever Blu-Ray DVD release....The one and only Atlas Security was in the house.

I think he sold XPW to Big Vision Entertainment. They are the guys that filmed the show, and put it onto DVD.

Kleinrock ran XPW anyway. All Rob Black did was strut around like a crack-fuelled Vince McMahon.

I believe you may be thinking of our very own Jonny Storm. He was the first, and last, XPW European champion.

What did ECW PPVs cost in America?
NBT
Lister will know for certain (Because its in his book) but going from my hazy memory I think they started off at $19.95 and then moved up to $24.95 in '98, I think Living Dangerously was the first at the new price.

I'll double check when I get from home from work if nobody else jumps in with a definite answer.

Hi there, fantastic thread and you guys have helped me before and i would like your help again please. Having just purchased the first volume of Real In Memphis from Simania I popped it in last night and was surprised at the various different bits of footage on the discs. Can someone please provide me with a listing for all the volumes and some background to the dvd set if at all possible.

Also whilst browsing Ebay I came across someone selling a wrestling dvd which claims it has the footage of Slaughter and Kernodle vs Steamboat and Youngblood in a cage and its the only known full copy of the footage... sounds too good to be true to me but is it possible?

Info taken from a post of Bix's over at DVDVR. The story was that Arn Anderson accidentally taped over a copy of Jim Nelson's copy of the Slaughter & Kernodle vs Steamboat & Youngblood Final Conflict. However, later Kernodle himself came forward with his copy of the match which was a dub of Nelson's and everyone was able to see it in full. I am pretty sure I have a copy of the disc myself somewhere.

Nothing official was ever produced, as far as I know. If I know Mark at all though, he has every match he's ever had neatly catalogued somewhere. Try PMing him and asking for copies of stuff. He'd probably be quite chuffed to know that he has such devoted fans.

M2K Comp #10 - The War On Co-edism
Wataru Inoue v The American Dragon (NJ 6/10/02) Ah, some clever chappy decided to give these two an eight minute wrestling match. Whoo-hoo! It's all choppy-choppy and bitchy-bitchy as you'd expect. Ohtani/Benoit comparisons for both men respectively are explicit.

Jumbo Tsuruta v Toshiaki Kawada (All Japan, 1991) Arguably the two best Japanese professional wrestlers ever tie it up in singles. Jumbo looked as though he hadn't been layed for a couple of weeks and was intent on smacking as much shit as possible out of young Tosh. Great teacher v pupil stuff in the All Japan idiom.

Shoichi Ichimiya defends his 24/7 Hardcore Title against hot babes, dogs, disgruntled restaurant owners.....(DDT, 12/02)

Ian Rotten v Jimmy Jacobs (IWA Mid South, 4/03) More fun from FAT! Finlay, this time guiding the fuzzy booted young Jacobs through a super little wrasslin' match. Ian is one of the most underrated wrestlers on the scene at present.

Pierroth Jr/Violencia/Blue Panther v Gran Markus Jr/Apolo Dantes/El Satanico (EMLL, 1/03) My favourite match yet from the wickedly bufoonish Markus-Boriquas fued. Panther and Satanico beat the shit out of each other like the MEN that they are, while Dantes and Violencia complete a fine supporting cast. Mmmmmmmm, Arena Colliseo.

Toshiaki Kawada v Genichiro Tenryu (All Japan 10/00) Argghhhh!!!!! I'm watching this for the third or forth time and I'm still cringing at the ferociously stiff blows unleashed in this match. Extremely well laid out match that builds sublimely (no boring repetitious headdrops are necessary here), punctuated throughout by the stiffest wrestling on the planet. This COULD be the match of the century so far.

La Galactica v Jaguar Yokota (AJW) This zany fan-cam is the follow up to their more famous hair match and is full of hate. Galactica is a great heel and Jaguar is brings her normal brand of firm assed, perky bosomed professional wrestling (Matron!). All capped off by some funky interference from the legendary Monster Ripper.

Young David v Fit Finlay (England, very early 80's) Lovely stiff-as-fuck technical wrestling stuff from these two skinny kids. Finlay's greatness is obvious even at this stage of his career and pre-roids Davey Boy could really GO. Messrs Galbraith and Kennedy will get a kick out of the latest scores as well.

KAORU/Toshiyo Yamada v Etsuko Mita/Mima Shimoda (GAEA, 4/99) One of those crazy Memphis-meets-ECW brawls that GAEA does so well. Shimoda excels in this environment, Yamada is superb, Mita stomps ass and KAORU does her lesbian Sabu schtick. Did I mention that Chris Coey hates this match?

Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland gives a masterclass in heel psychology and how the turn a crowd against you. The best heel in America behind Todd Morton.

Stan Lane/Bobby Eaton v Tracy Smothers/Steve Armstrong (NWA, 1990) Forgotten TV match between two great tag teams who would go on to have a bona-fide classic at the Great American Bash later in the year. All the greatness of MX-Southern Boys you expect compressed into a sub-ten minute match.

Kiyoshi Tamura v Tsyoshi Kousaka (RINGS, 27/6/98) Pretty much the last word in pretend MMA matches. Oodles of tricked out shooty matwork and maximum usage of the points system makes for one heck of a match. Imagine the mid-point between Maeda-Fujinami '86 and the better Takada stuff.

Electroshock/Chessman v El Torero/Oscar Sevilla (AAA, 1/03) The sleazey, zany, low-budget AAA version of the ECW Gangtas Paradise tag with a bunch of angles crashing together like semen on Kristi Myst's face. Worth checking out for mucho MILF malevolence from Lady Apache and Esther Moreno if nothing else.

Shiro Koshinaka v Genichiro Tenryu (World Japan, 3/5/03) This just rocks with fun. Tenryu is joyfully mean and miserable as the perfect foil to Koshinaka's assbumping nuttiness. Not to hammer home rhetoric or anything, but if you don't like this match, you hate professional wrestling.

Tom Pritchard/Jimmy Delray v Dirty White Boy/Tracy Smothers (SMW, 9/95) Yeah, the best match from possibly the best US indy show of the 1990's and maybe the best tag match in the history of wrasslin's rootinest, tootinest, pollutinest promotion. Dr Tom's blade job fucks your mother and blows it's load on your aunt's face.

Tamon Honda v Kenta Kobashi (NOAH, 13/4/03) Honda is this year's suprise package. His unlikely Taue-meets-Dr Cerebro act has turned him from laughing stock into one of the best wrestlers in the world (that is unless your name is Mrs Angle). The match is full of funky matwork, cool suplexes and great drama. Both men's best performance of the year and beats the living piss out of Misawa-Kobashi.

Ted Dibiase v Jim Duggan (Cage, Mid South) 'Best Dressed' angle....Dibiase the worker......tuxedos.......you know the rest.

Takeshi Rikioh/Takeshi Morishima/Diasuke Ikeda v Akitoshi Saito/Jun Akiyama/Jun Izumida (NOAH 23/3/03) This match clubbers it's way into contention for Match of the Year. Everyone is up for it and firing on all cylanders, even Izumida and especially Morishima. This has everything you could want from a six-man tag.

Johnny Smith v George Hines (All Japan, 4/5/03) 70's style matfest-o-rama as Johnny Smith takes the third Fantastic through a hell of an engaging contest. Tremendous stuff as usual from another of the world's most underrated wrestlers.

Michael Todd Stratton v Ian Rotten (IWA Mid South, 18/4/03) Todd is the king of the redneck inciting rednecks, fighting with ringrats and screaming at the fans. Great brawl, with plenty of blood and hatred; think of a modern Lawler-Dundee with more cussing. The ever charming Steve Stone turns the air blue on commentary.

Billy Joe Travis v Jerry Lawler (Memphis, 7/02) Terry Funk no shows so they brought in Travis for this MSC main event - and it rocks. Double juice brawl all over with smatterings of that classic Memphis schtick we all love. The last significant match of Travis' life, as he tragically passed away a few months later. Great pre-match mic work here as well.

GENTARO v Takashi Sasaki (DDT, 19/3/03) Clash of tag team partners forced into battle with each other by the evil DDT powers-that-be. It helps that these two guys are the best workers in the promotion too; Sasaki operates as a kind of babyface SUWA, while GENTARO is 'the Japanese Marty Jannetty' (Fadda~~~~~). Neat match.

Masa Fuchi v Danny Kroffat (All Japan, 1991) Fun little match, especially for fans of Fuchi who is at his dickish best.

Tatsumi Fujinami v Chavo Guerrero (Early 80's) A lot of people forget that Fujinami was one of the great pioneers of junior heavyweight wrestling and they er....shouldn't. Chavo Sr could go back then too. Nice match with some funky stuff from both men. I do believe the first match on one of my comps to feature a Vince McMahon cameo.

Ha! Frank Andersson on one of the tapes! Whatever came of him?

Well done Magu. I misread and thought he only wanted the listings for vol. 1. I miss El Presidente~ and Fadda~~~~~~~~~. sad.gif

To explain, the M2K comps were the work of Lee Flattery, who used to post as M2KMark.

The RIM comps come from the days before we all had wrestling channels, torrents, YouTube and £2 DVDs. They worked by everyone involved sending me a blank tape with 30 minutes of footage they thought others should see (plus return postage). I slung it all on one tape, then dubbed it onto the blanks (six at once on one occasion thanks to a major Scart daisy chain) and posted them back. Everyone got a four hour comp for the price of a blank tape and £1.60 postage. Good times.
