Now I have to be honest and say I've never really followed Smallville consistently and have only ever caught the odd episode here and there.

I've enjoyed the episodes I've seen but after reading an article on it by IGN I have to put this across.

Apparently, Smallville has featured almost every Superman villain over its 8 seasons and this is apparently before he's even Superman. The IGN article made one comment which I don't think was meant to be relevant, but I thought they made a good point.

Do you think it's about time they made the Clark Kent character finally don the cape, become Superman and possibly change the show name Metropolis?

I am going to try and watch all episodes in order over time, but just wanted to get your thoughts.
RCD
Although the writers have pretty much confirmed that he will probably fly by this seasons end he will never don the tights as the whole intention of doing Smallville was to highlight how be became Superman & not to show him as Superman since that's been done in numerous formats before.
Thunderplex
They are spending mos of the time in Metropolis, so your probrably right about renaming it.

Tom Welling looks too old to be Superboy, in fact, he's older than Brandon Routh who played Superman in the shite film a couple of years ago.

The show should have died a couple of years ago. I'm watching more out of habit than enjoyment now.
DJ Kris
I certainly don't agree that the show should have died a couple of years ago. I haven't quite finished season 7 yet, but I've enjoyed everything so far and I'll certainly miss it when it does come to an end. I've always assumed that he will eventually don the suit and cape, at which point the series will be heading for it close (unless they do a continue it under another guise, at which point I'll no doubt watch and enjoy, but maybe lean more towards Thunderplex's view).

If it is indeed true that there is no intention of him reaching that stage I'll be bitterly disappointed. Yes this is the younger years of Clark Kent, but it's all about how he became Superman and in my opinion, that is not complete until he actually reaches that point.
Steveo2007
Although it was a show to portray clark before superman, the amount of superman villains he's fought would just make it ridiculous to then say "he's fought the entire superman arsenal without even being superman"

If they did end the show this season, I think a great ending would be for the finale, after he's fought and beat Doomsday. He put on the cape and flew off into the sunset.

I'm not particularly bothered by this. In a show about an alien who can fly, the order he's faced enemies in is the thing that appears ridiculous? He's had so many origin stories.

I'm watching series 8 now although I won't say how and it's good the rumours are they maybe a series 9 but they don't know yet so they are making 2 series 8 endings a cliffhanger until series 9 or a forever ending as for the villains yeah he has fought many and in series 8 the main plot is

I watch it from time to time but I dont like the way they have fucked around with the history the way I recall it.

It's the worst show I watch regularly and I do wish it had ended years ago, but I don't mind the fact that we've seen most of the villains. Smallville isn't a prequel, it's a reimagining of the Superman story, just like the Ultimate Spider-Man comics or the new Battlestar Galactica. Having said that, the only moment I've truly marked out for in recents seasons was when Clark got transported to an alternate reality and actually donned the old-school Clark Kent suit and glasses. I watched that and thought, "wow, now that's what we've been waiting for!!" (even though I know it shouldn't be).

The last 3 episodes have been top quality!

Im a big comic book fan but I've hated Smallville the few times I've seen it. Just mainly because they've now branched out into other areas of the mythos to the point that it dosen't make sense. But maybe thats me being panickity. I don't mind them altering the origins so much, I can buy Smallville as a "altenate" universe of sorts; but the way they have FORCED DC characters in is just shocking e.g. Lois Lane. She is such a super slut!

However one way I would love it to end is if he finally decides that he "must" dedicate his life to the good fight and it ends with him standing on a tall building in a cape. However one thing I am aware of is that Smallville creators do not have the rights to "Superman" or his likeness. Oh they have the rights to all the two bit DC characters and Clark Kent, but as far as I am aware we will never "see" Superman (or Batman or Wonder Women for that matter).
Steveo2007
have we seen anything interesting of the Doomsday character?

Meaning does his physical appearance change or anything like that?

Yep it does, happens in the latest episode during Chloe's wedding.
Steveo2007
sweet, might have to check that out.

I'm right upto date with the American Broadcasts except this weeks (Episode 11), so far I've really enjoyed season 8, in fact I've found it to be very addictive viewing, I watched the last 7 episodes of season 7 and the first 10 of season 8 in less than a week.

Season 8 is supposed to be the last, that's why Doomsday is in it. I've been scouring google to try find any info on this as i want there to be a season 9. No luck so far although it's not been confirmed either way

I'll put the rest in spoiler tags because this happens in the comics(not that I've read them i just came across this in my google searches) and people might not want to know

Season 8 has been good, but ep11 was amazing imo

From Kryptonsite.com:

QUOTE
- The producers have planned two different potential arcs to end Season 8, depending on if there is another season. Regardless of when it happens, the final episode will be "either a heroic send-off or a heartbreaking decision for Clark to move on to the next phase." Souders is confident that the show could work for a ninth season. "People have been telling Superman stories for decades, so we have no doubt we can tell stories for another year," she says.

I'm assuming they do intend to have him become Superman before the show ends. I'm still very keep to see at least one season with him as Superman. As the show's gone on it's thrown up so many questions as to how certain aspects of that would work. Mostly how no one will recognise him as Superman, particularly Lois and Lex.

Herne's Son
I actually got all 7 seasons of this on dvd for the amazing price of £6.50 when I was in China this summer.

I've yet to start watching them though but will get round to it. My main problem is that this show like so many other US shows just feels too false as its always populated by ridiculously good looking people. Thats a problem I have with tv since watching the likes of The Wire, Deadwood, Oz etc. Its a problem I find with Supernatural as well.

I did hear that this show has lost a lot since Lex and Lana left...is this true??

Lex was a great character but now that he's gone the shows moving in a different direction, which is good. Keeps it new. Lana did my head in most of the time but she's been back in S8

This is a show I've been watching since the beginning and have always enjoyed. These days
I'll watch a bunch of episodes together and then none for a long time. I'm up to date on Season 8 though.

I was loving this season, the best in ages until 3 episodes ago.....

(Not sure about the UK pace of the show so just in case)

Such a disappointment.

Steveo2007
I'm happy there's a ninth season. The way it's working, it seems to be edging towards him becoming Superman before the end of season 8 which is great quite frankly.

Also if he were to become Superman, then I'm sure WB would be more willing to cast Tom Welling as Superman in the new movies.
ReturnOfTheMack
I really like him as SM, and Erica Durance is just spot on for me. Lana was shit, but given we knew that its Clark and Lois not Clark and Lana is was hard to get emotionally invested in the character.

But anything with Green Arrow in it gets a thumbs up from me, I am a huge fan of the character.
Andrew_
The scenes in the last episode with Apocalyptica playing were immense. Brilliantly acted.

Anyone got a link to that version of the song?

Really good last few episodes. Building the whole Doomsday thing and Clark becoming superman.. well, the red blue blur
Andrew_
Anyone watch the season finale?

ReturnOfTheMack
Yeah, they should have done a whole lot more with Doomsday, full on let down.

terrance stamp ftw, can't wait for this, supernatural and chuck.
The King Of Swing
I picked up S7 & 8 recently so I have some catching up to do before I even dip into S9.

Honestly I don't think there has been a season of Smallville (1-6) I didn't like and I even enjoyed S4 which seems to get the most shit thrown at it though I do agree that the writers tend to force DC characters into the series.

As for Lana Lang I always liked her more whenever she was a bad girl/bitch (yes even that one episode where she was a Vampire) and I remember one poster on IMDB describing her character as "Chameleon(sp?)" that changed to suit whatever guy she was with at the time and I think that was spot on personally.

And I marked out big for Michael Ironside playing Louis's dad in one episode.

One scene I have always loved is during the S3 premiere where Clark shows up at a bank robbery only to steal the cash for himself laugh.gif
DJ Kris
As usual I've been getting the current series of Smallville after its US airing, but I don't get why they keep having breaks from showing it? So far as I know it's not been shown for 2 weeks and isn't on this week either! They only started showing it again just over a month ago after breaking around late November time!!! What's going on with those crazy yanks?
Dynamite Duane
I've been catching some of it on from Channel 4, Saturday afternoons. I see they've added a few new characters since when I used to watch it, Green Arrow and Black Canary. I used to collect Green Arrow comics in the early 90s, bought a few Black Canary ones too.

I like it because I'm a superhero fanatic but like a lot of American sci-fi type programmes it tends to be too serious. The Superman and Spiderman movies aren't, that's what makes them so successful.
lambyUK
I started to get back into it a few weeks back and its a stunning show. I remember when it first came out the effects it displayed were superb for a TV show.

I basically lost way with it after season 2, then I started buying the seasons on DVD. I watched season 1 and loved it, but it got lost in the shuffle of all the other great TVs shows.

I caught bits of season 5 and 6 from e4 but never knew what was going on. So, I dusted off my DVDs and started watching from season 3 and im addicted to it. Ive currently just finished season 5 and will be ordering season 6 as they are currently only £12.99 for a season!!!

Tom Welling makes a superb Clark Kent and find the supporting cast superb as well.
ReturnOfTheMack
The JSA special is superb.
DJ Kris
Has anyone been watching the 10th and final series? I've been loving it so far and it really feels like its building to the end.
The Cum Doctor
I've been watching Season 9 and I honestly don't know if I can reach Season 10 with the shit I've been putting up with.

Really? There were times with Season 9 where I was getting thrustrated and bored with the whole Zod thing, but over all I enjoyed it. 10 however, has been an absolute pleasure to watch so far.

Season 10 so far has been a mixture of brilliance and sheer shite. The latest ep was superb but the week before was perhaps the worst of Smallville's 10 year run.

Regarding the spoilers above, I CANT FUCKING WAIT.

Also, Bubba its best to watch the episode LUTHOR from season 10 to explain your first note in spoiler tags.

i did notice that when series 9 was on over here, series 10 was about to start in the states! I cant wait though, as i loved the last series! I was a avid watcher back in seasons 1 and 2, although i just dropped out of it altogether. Jumped in at series 9 (with a bit of help from the internet to put together whats been going on), and loved it.

shame lex has not been in it for a while though, did he not want to do another series?

Michael Rosenbaum just got to the point where he felt like he needed a change. On top of that, he was fed up of shaving his head all the time.

IMO, Lex leaving was what was needed to add a bit of freshness to the show. Don't get me wrong, Lex is a great character and played brilliantly by MR, but there was only so many ways to tell a story involving Clark and Lex.

The season since he has left have been hit and miss, but mostly hit.
