Women who make
real music.
Let's face it, women generally have awful taste in music, if they're not listening to the latest RnB jingle by some greasy rapist or fawning over the latest Johnny Sixpack they're cutting themselves to My Chemical Romance videos on YouTune or scrawling illiterate Harry Potter fanfictions to the rhythm of Linkin Park or Green Day's back catalog. Female musicians are pretty much all shit too, if they're not pretending to perform on stage they're complaining about how people are mean to them when all they want to do is have fun or proclaiming themselves to be strong and independent female rolemodels despite shacking up with anyone as long as he's got a convertible, a few grand in the bank and a videocamera.
Thankfully however there are women out there who understand the concept of artistic integrity and make music because they genuinely enjoy it, not just to live out attention seeking celebrity fantasies or to 'bag a rich one'. Woman, does it not piss you off that your gender is represented in the music business by wretched turds like Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and that one from N-Dubz? Women like Bilinda Butcher and Debbie Googe (of My Bloody Valentine), Wata (of Boris), Kim Gordon (of Sonic Youth), Leah Buckareff (of Nadja) and Mayuko Hino (of C.C.C.C.) are the one's who are truly worthy of idolization, not because the music they've made is "pretty good, for a woman" but because they're simply great at what they do.
Just because you we live in a society where you can run around half naked, do drugs, brawl and drink until you vomit blood doesn't mean you've achieved some mystical state of gender equality. If you want respect, admiration and equality try dedicating yourself to a cause and become better at it than
everyone, and if you can't be that good simply win people over with passion and perseverance.
With that out of my system enjoy this video of
Wata (of Boris) making a guitar howl.
