Yeah I'm enjoying it a lot more. With the friend profiles and the fact you can message in game I think its making it a much more social interface. Once trophys kick off I think I'll be enjoying my PS3 a lot more, not that I dont enjoy it anyway.

Social indeed.

I've found myself sending people lots more vulgar messages now when they decided to quit on Fifa 89 minutes into the match. smile.gif

Just a quick question. How do you uninstall the full games, like MGS4? I couln't find an uninstall option anywhere. Someone mentioned deleting the game data. How would I do that?

I don't want to uninstall it yet, but when I've finished it I will want to uninstall it as it takes up a huge chunk of my hard drive. If deleting the game dta is the only way, then, well, thats fucking lame. Sort it out Sony!!!

I'm only guessing here but if you go to the main PS3 menu - go to game and scroll up to "game data utility", i'm assuming you delete it there

I'm very tempted to buy a PS3 just to play MGS4, but prices are kinda putting me off and I hear a 80GB version could be on sale by august time and is PS1/2 compatible.

Anyone know where are best places to get one at the mo or should I hold off just a little longer?

1 big question.. Are you a Metal Gear fan? have yu played the other Metal gears? because if you have not dont buy 1 just for this game. Personaly the Ps3 is better then the 360 due to the out of box online and the fact it wont have a nice big red ring. But to base buying a Ps3 on MGS 4 is not wise unless you are a MGS fan.

Hell yeah I'm fan of the Metal Gear Solid Series. (Own all three on the playstation 1/2)
The only thing I'm looking into at the moment, is if I should hold out till the price comes down or wait till the 80GB version that is out in the US will come out in the UK.

Any advice?

Sorry, but as a games console the 360 is far better owing to the fact that PS3 are still implementing things that the 360 has had for years. It will catch up though, I'm sure. Obviously as an entertainment centre the PS3 is better owing to its blu ray player and awesome upscaling abilities.

I just finished Metal Gear Solid 4 a few minutes ago having never played any of the other MGS games and I still loved it. Obviously the ridiculous amount of cutscenes which drag on and don't really advance the story any better than a 10 minute cut scene could have and the general shittyness of having to install games hinder it a bit, but I was still left with that 'wow' feeling after the credits had rolled. Although there was one thing that really irritated me about the ending:
Big Boss = Most drawn out death ever. I was begging Solid to go and get the gun off the floor and just shoot him in the head
The 360 is a nice console, great online features.

The PS3's failings has been it's Online features however, they ARE free once you've got the console.

Overall the PS3 is just as powerful as the Xbox, has Wireless and Blu Ray out of the box and it's games are just as good as the Xbox, in some cases better and they are improving at a faster rate than the Xbox now that coders are used to the structure of it. Plus there's not much danger of your Ps3 bricking.

I fail to see anything on the Xbox which raises it above the PS3, but that's my opinion, I know others see it differently and that's fine too.

How is the 360 far better?? i own both and the 360 is not far better personaly i wouldnt say it was better.. the PS3 dont have a 1 in 3 fail chance like the 360 now anybody that buys a 360 knowing this is a bit daft if you ask me. Also there is no way the 360 HD is as full as the Ps3 you can clearly tell when you have them running on the same TV.

The Ps3 can run games on Blue Ray the 360 cant and never will, while the 360 have a few exculsives it has been out longer but the Ps3 is catching up and most have already been outdone. Uncharted and MGS4 are too big to play on the 360 due to it not being able to run blue ray disks. If Halo 3 was not a excusive it would be able to run on the 360.

Also i love how ppl say the Ps3 is more expensive when lets be honist the Ps3 is about £40 more expensive now for the package. But..
You get free Online gaming out the box,
Its wireless out the box,
It is a Blue ray Player out the box,
The pads have the plug and play out the box.

the 360 might even be red ring out the box.. You never know.

The 360 has better online gaming true but its not £30+ a year that much better and in time the Ps3 1 will be just as good.

Also add this to the fact that my PSP had a fault i phoned sony and the next day they turned up with a replacement. You have to pay to post the 360 and for your own packing to have it fixed, now add that to that fact your 360 "will" have a red ring its just "When will it"

I have a 60 gig Ps3 and i only have 20gig left at the mo id wait for the 80gig but it will prob be expensive if you can find a 60 gig for a good price pick it up. There is a Cash Converters near me that do them for £270 each but they come unboxed but with everything else.

I got a brand new PS3 40gb, Lego Indiana Jones and the HDMI cable for £259.99 from my local Game; they must have not have much business as the manager was knocking the price down like that.

Maybe not so much now. As I said the PS3 will catch up. What I'm getting at is the the xbox 360 has a lot of stuff which the PS3 didn't have at launch as is now, well, stealing from the xbox. Take achievements, Sony saw how popular they were on the xbox since it was launched so they've basically stolen the idea. The 360's online store and features are just miles better than the PS3s. I don't mean so much playing online, just the overall look of the store and the stuff available on it blow the PS3 away. Of course Sony are busy stealing the 360's movie rental idea as we speak. But that won't be available here for a while and the 360 has had it for months already. Rumble controllers, in game music, it was all on the 360 but missing on the PS3 at launch for one reason or another.

As you say Sony are getting their act together now and getting things moving, they just don't seem to come up with much original stuff. All their new ideas are just stolen from the Wii or the 360.

Obviously the PS is less likely to fall over, just as long as you don't go installing any untested console updates!!!

I think I'd rather take a risk on the updates rather than buy a 360 with the fear I may get one of the fucked up ones, hell Microsoft even produced a new version with exactly the same problems. At least you can trust Sony to fix the problem rather than just keep it out there and hope it doesn't affect every buyer.

Fanboy'ism out the window for a second.

Never being able to trust the firmware updates? 1 or 2 out of more than 25 firmware updates in total caused problems. Your probably referring to the 2.40 update which let's not forget was resolved in under a week. Let's not also forget this only effected a minority of users. The 360 has had reliability problems for years now which will over time effect the majority of users. Even when they release a newer version of the console (The Elite) they still get it wrong!

You can't compare the 360 to the PS3 in reliability issues. They're not in the same league.

I'm just trying to even the playing field in a thread full of PS3 fanboys, but thats the best I could come up with tongue.gif Although I did read at one point jus after launch games stores were recieving back more broken PS3s than XBOX360s for a while. To be honest I'm kinda sick of PS3 owners responding to each and every fault on the PS3 and its development with 'at least theres no red rings!'. Its a major major fault, but its one fault on a tremendous console.

I own both consoles and hope they both do well. I agree the RRoD if the worst flaw of either console, and the 360 is unreliable, but theres so long that PS3 fanboys can hang on to that before they'll be forced to admit that the 360, as a games console blu ray and all that gubbins asside, is the better console. Sony are beavering away with new features, but they all appear to be rip offs of other consoles. Take their two newest ideas: A movie download service, already availble on the 360, and a google maps style weather and news service, stolen straight from the Wii. The PS3 is a great console, but all they are doing are implementing what the other consoles have and sitting there chuckling to themselves 'at least we have blu ray and no red rings'. I really want to see Sony do something special with the PS3. They're a media giant with huge resources and connections in all industries, they just need to pull their fingers out and get creative.

I couldn't agree more with the bold quote. I owned a 360 up until a couple months ago when I switched to the PS3 and having experienced both I've got to admit the 360 is the better GAMES (This is the key word) console. Mainly due to the user friendliness and the many exclusives it has over the Playstation 3. Along with the fact that most developers port their games over from the 360 to the PS3 which in most cases means they play slightly better on the 360. However, all this means nothing when in the back of your mind your always worrying is your console going to brick it the next time you switch it on. It happened to me 4 times and on the 4th time I decided to sell the refurb on eBay and invest the money in a PS3. A PS3 which may have stolen plenty of it's ideas from the 360 but let's face it how many competitors don't copy each other? A PS3 which also offers a Blu-Ray Player and Wirless Connection built in. A PS3 that has a very small failure rate and a PS3 that's slowly but surely creeping up with the 360 in terms of the services it offers. Services it offers for free!

Regards being creative. I mentioned a little above about competitors copying. Sony do however have HOME in the pipe line. I can't be arsed to explain all the ins and outs (A wiki search will do that) but it's looking very good indeed.

In the PS3 thread.

It's funny because 360 fanboys never had any comeback on PS3 'fanboys' talking about reliability, Best thing is Sony proved it's still 100% better as even 'bricked' (your term not mine) consoles were fixed within a week when it takes about 2 or 3 for 60-70% of broken Xboxes to be repaired.

There is no comparison. I think it shows how desperate Xbox fanboys are getting that they have to 'prove' how much better the PS3 is.

If Sony want to overtake they're going to have to do something original and by the looks of things they are incapable of that. Microsoft, as much as I hate them as a company, are doing everything right, new ideas like the movie download rental service, excellent store and online features, even allowing gamers to develop their own games for the system. But the truly awful flaw in their hardware has let them down.

Sony have sold 13 million PS3's without having those features. Microsoft have only sold 18 million despite having a good head start.

Wii are blowing everyone out of the water as they are cheaper that annyone (in real terms) while the PS3 and Xbox are pretty much the same cost for the same features. (Oh wait you can't have HD on Xbox right now can you tongue.gif)

for anyone who has a 360 and a ps3, what can you do on a ps3 you cant do on a 360?

Play blu rays, play MGS4, play games without the rumble feature.

Play Blu-Rays, Wireless Internet capability out of the box and the general awesomeness of not having to worry about the red circle of doom.

And the general non awesomeness of never being able to trust Sony's updates in fear they could brick your PS3.

I think it's around September, not sure though.

And to the guy who said you can play movies from your computer through your PC via the network and the router, tell me how as I have quite a few downloaded movies that I can only currently watch on the laptop.

The easiest way is to have the newest version of media player put all you movies in the library and go to the sharing option and turn media sharing on with your PS3 (it'll probably show up as an unknown device). Although a lot of people say the newest version of media player is rubbish (personnally I've had no problems). On the PS3 it should show up under videos. Of course you have to ensure all router and firewall stuff is set up, if it isn't already.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Yes the xbox360 was out several years before the PS3, but that also means that PS3 has 2 years more for development and the fact that the PS3 came out still way behind the xbox as a games console just shows how poor sony development is.

How poor sony development is? The only reason XBOX360 was out so quickly was because they wanted to get the edge on the competition but look where that got them. The majority of systems released were faulty from day one, the noise out of them is ridiculous and what's with the stupid power pack thing? I have a 360 but hardly ever play it.

1. Because of the noise off it.
2. The big power box thing or whatever it is gets really hot, really fast.
3. You have to pay for extra equipment to even get a good gaming experience, e.g. the wireless connector, wireless controllers, the hard drive etc.

The PS3 you get silence, no real chance of overheating and you get the wireless controllers no matter what version you buy. I would honestly say that the XBOX360 only has the online gaming experience to its advantage but that's about it.

Thats because 360 owners know theres a fault. Theres no point trying to make out that there isn't. And besides, admitting a problems is better than "......well.....at least we havnt got red rings".

All I care about is me personally. I've had a 360 for about 2 years, it hasn't failed on me, theres always lots of content in the store to try out, I'm even getting a chance to play about with example games using the creation tools microsoft have released.

The PS3 is amazing as amedia centre , I play movies of al formats through it and it upscales my DVDs brilliantly. But as a console, the shop has so few demos its ridiculous. Games look great but the lack of rumble feature is a bit shite (I know you can import, but considering I didn't buy it long ago, by all rights dual shock 3 should be released by now). I love achievements and in game music, which have been on the 360 since day one are two of my favourite features so I'm very glad sony have picked up on that. Luckily 2.4 didn't fail on me. You're right brick isn't the right term as a reformat culd rectify it, but still, I wouldn't want to lose all my game data and I've only had the thing for a month or so.

I know theres flaws with both consoles, I'm not a fanboy for either, I just like to give the full pros and cons as I see them. What annoys me are people like some in this thread who refuse to believe there are any flaws with their console and thats just not true for any console. Some flaws are bigger than others like the RRoD, but to just flat out deny the poor console features of the PS3 at launch is ridiculous. Whats the harm in saying 'yes, the PS3 as a console lacked a lot of features at launch and is only now catching up"? So long as you play and enjoy the console what difference does it make? I'm not gonna say any more because, quite frankly, who cares. I'll continue playing whichever console has the games I want to play, whether that be the PS3, the 360 or the Wii.

Because you keep saying the 360 is better than the PS3, in a PS3 thread.

You don't expect people to question you? I don't think anyone has said the PS3 is flawless, far from it, the online capability is FREE and hasn't had a lot of work done on it, saying that now Sony ARE doing work on it and improving it a lot, PS3 owners haven't really been complaining but Sony want to make the experience better and we're thankful for that.

The PS3 is a better console. By the end of 2009 it will have overtaken the Xbox 360 in popularity. Sony are really throwing their weight behind their console. Microsoft have some great ideas as well.

You may want to dismiss the strong points of the console as much as you like. But that gives anyone the right to disagree with you. I like the fact my PS3 has Blu Ray, it means in the future games are never going to be too big to fit on a single disc (Can you say the same with DVD?) I'm happy my console isn't a dumbed down PC. I'm delighted I can get games I can port over to my PSP and take on the road with me. I needed and got wireless out of the box. I can connect my external hard drive, my camera and my PSP to my console and transfer stuff around easily.

Oh and the standard controllers of the PS3 are far better than the Xbox monstrosities.

But hey, that's my opinion.

Why do people argue about which console is 'better'?

Here's a list of consoles that I think are 'better' than the PS3, you ready?

Mega Drive
N64
Dreamcast
Gamecube
Xbox
Xbox360
PS1

Seriously they are all 'better' than the PS3, and the PS2 now I think about it. Why? Becuase they all have games that I want to play, the PS3 and the PS2 don't have a single title (relaeased or in development) that I give a flying fuck about (except for Shadow of the colossus, which did look quite interesting) and I therefore have no interest in them.

Arguing about consoles is stupid, look at the list of games and decide which one you like more and that gives you the answer as to which console is 'better'.

Now if you'll excuse me I've got to go down stairs and tell my 360 that I love and cherish her - If I don't do that once a day she starts feeling insecure and breaks.

Your post made me giggle as I've always tried to avoid doing the whole "my console is better than your console" thing but I just find myself firefighting about them all the time, it does come down simply to "I like what I have" though.

Saying that the console wars have been going on since the Atari 2600 went up against the Vectrex and Intellivision, there was fights in the playground at my school over what was better out of the two.

It was obviously the Atari 2600 and anyone who says otherwise will be getting a visit.
