XWA GOLDRUSH 2012 - British Wrestling's Biggest Rumble Returns!

Saturday, February 4 2012, The Carleton, Alhambra Buildings, Marine Road West, Morecambe, Lancs

FEATURING FOR THE XWA BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

'Psychotic Warrior' Johnny Phere (champion) v 'Showstealer' Nathan Cruz

'The Psychotic Warrior' Johnny Phere will make the second defence of his XWA British Heavyweight Championship when he fights 'The Showstealer' Nathan Cruz at XWA Goldrush on Saturday, February 4 2012.

Phere versus Cruz has been made because the man most believed would be the number one contender, 'The Heavyweight House of Pain' Stixx, has been forced to step aside.

Johnny Phere won the XWA Title at LastFight on October 8 and afterwards, promised Stixx a title shot. Stixx is undefeated in the XWA for four years and 16 consecutive matches. Nobody deserves a championship match more than him.

But the decision was taken out of the champion's hands by a legal document signed by XWA co-owner Greg Lambert prior to LastFight. This states that Lambert would get to pick the number one contender and challenger for the XWA Title at Goldrush.

It's thought Lambert initially drew up this document to protect The Authority's ownership of the XWA Title, thinking they would still be in possession of the championship at Goldrush. These plans were shattered when Dave Rayne, defending the title on behalf of The Authority, lost to Phere in an impromptu match at LastFight.

Rayne has already had his rematch, but lost to Phere at XWA Deception. So Lambert's pick to challenge Johnny at Goldrush is the precociously talented Cruz, an individual he has gone on record to say he admires greatly.

This will be the first time Johnny Phere has faced Nathan Cruz one-on-one and it's bound to be an intense and exciting matchup between the power and aggression of the champion, and the crafty all-round skills of the challenger. Cruz has also vowed that he's sick of being a nearly man in the XWA and has promised that on Saturday February 4 he will do exactly what his nickname suggests, and he will steal the show!

Goldrush is on Saturday, February 4 at The Carleton in Morecambe, starting at 7.30pm (doors 7pm). Tickets are available from the XWA website www.xwawrestling.com right now! XWA Goldrush - Pro-Wrestling: EVE title match confirmed

Friday, 30 December 2011 09:56

To celebrate reaching 500 followers on Twitter, XWA Wrestling has confirmed an early New Year's present for all followers of European women's wrestling. On Saturday, February 4 at Goldrush 2012, there will be another Pro-Wrestling:EVE championship match!

The reigning champion, The Female Fight Machine Jenny Sjodin, will put her title on the line at The Carleton in Morecambe, the venue where she actually captured the belt from Britani Knight at XWA War on the Shore back in June.

Pro-Wrestling:EVE and XWA officials are currently holding talks to determine the best possible challenger for the ultra-tough Swedish star, in order to put on the kind of intense and hard-hitting match Pro Wrestling:EVE fans have come to expect and enjoy.

Certainly this title defence will have a lot to live up to, as Sjodin's title-winning match against Knight - now available to see on the XWA War on the Shore VII DVD (which you can buy from the XWA website) - was one of the matches of the year not only in women's wrestling, not only in the XWA, but on any wrestling show in the country!

Pro-Wrestling:EVE and the XWA have a working relationship thanks to the friendship between XWA promoter Greg Lambert and Pro- Wrestling:EVE promoter Dann Read which stretches back 10 years. In fact, Saturday February 4 2012 will mark almost exactly 10 years to the date when Greg and Dann met for the first time, as fans attending the British Wrestling event Revival headlined by the late, great Eddie Guerrero.

The Pro-Wrestling:EVE title defence, brought to you by all-female wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling:EVE and the North West's number one wrestling promotion the XWA, has been added to what already looks like a fantastic card to kick off 2012 in XWA Wrestling.

Also on the bill is the XWA British Heavyweight Title match between champion 'The Psychotic Warrior' Johnny Phere and 'The Showstealer' Nathan Cruz, the return of The Manchester Massive who will team together for the first time in three years against The Blackpool Blonds, a champion versus champion match pitting two of the best high-flyers on the UK scene today as XWA Flyweight Champion El Ligero takes on XWA Best of the North West Champion Jynkz, and not forgetting the highlight of the card and one of the highlights on the UK wrestling calendar...the 15-man over-the-top rope GOLDRUSH where the prize is a shot at the British Heavyweight Title for the winner! Already Sam Slam and Stixx have signed up to be part of this gruelling matchup, and we await the announcement of the remaining 13 participants!

Get your tickets for XWA Goldrush 2012 from the XWA website www.xwawrestling.com - Doors open 7pm, bell time is 7.30pm. The show is at The Carleton, Alhambra Buildings, Marine Road West, Morecambe, Lancs. Tickets cost

Pleased to say it looks like I'll be heading along to this one, I believe my first XWA event since 'Last Fight at the Prom' in September 2009 where Spud won the belt from Sam Slam (and first time I'll have been to the 'new' venue).

Always love the Goldrush match, though wish they'd expand beyond 15 competitors some day to make it more of a 'big deal' and national attraction. In addition, Nathan Cruz is someone I've been convinced by over the last year or so and I'm looking forward to him taking on a prominent role in a promotion I used to follow closely.

Fist-pumpingly great looking weekender, with GPW's first show of 2012 down the road the night before. Party on.

The Manchester Massive versus The Blackpool Blonds is arguably the most highly-anticipated and important tag team match in XWA Wrestling history.

The Blackpool Blonds claim they are the greatest tag team in XWA Wrestling history. Undoubtedly Axl Rage and JD Sassoon are brash, cocky and very talented, the new kids on the block with limitless potential as a unit. In order to prove their boast of greatness to be true, they have targeted Joey Hayes and Declan O'Connor for the best part of a year, taunting, mocking, attacking and goading the former tag team partners and best friends until eventually, The Manchester Massive could take no more! Putting aside their bitter separation and feud of three years ago, O'Connor and Hayes have agreed to bury the hatchet and reunite, in an attempt to shut The Blonds' big mouths and prove that they, not The Blackpool pair, are the greatest tag team in XWA Wrestling history!

Now here's some background...

Declan O'Connor and Joey Hayes first became a team as The Manchester Massive in the Frontier Wrestling Alliance, making their debut as a duo in February 2005 in a match televised for FWA TV on The Wrestling Channel against Stixx and Martin Stone. The Mancunian duo had been friends for years prior to that, having both come up through the GPW and Future-Shock training ranks together. As Declan and Joey were so close personally and had so much in common, The Massive immediately clicked as a team. Although their won-loss record was terrible at first, in fact they didn't win a match for the first two years, they had great chemistry and were cheeky, cocky, funny and always very entertaining. The fans eventually took the chav ruffians to their hearts.

Never was this more obvious than the night The Massive faced Andy Simmonz and Ross Jordan at Goldrush 2007. When Dec and Joey eventually scored the pinfall, finally winning their first match, the Morecambe fans erupted with an incredibly positive reaction which went on, and on, and on for about 10 minutes, as The Massive milked the celebration of their first ever win for all they were worth. It was a magical moment, and showed that Dec and Joey had formed an unbreakable bond with the Morecambe fans.

From there, The Massive went on to become unquestionably the most popular tag team in XWA history...until Declan began to allow the critics to get inside his head. For years, O'Connor heard the opinions of many fans, fellow UK wrestlers and experts, that Joey was the more talented and successful member of the team. At Goldrush 2009, O'Connor cracked and allowed bitterness and jealousy to overcome him. He turned on his friend, costing him certain victory in the 2009 Goldrush rumble. Had Joey won that match, he would have received a shot at the XWA championship, something he's never had in nearly 10 years of wrestling in Morecambe.

Hayes never wanted to split with O'Connor, and always seemed a reluctant participant in their ensuing feud which raged through most of 2009. The XWA audience also seemed reluctant to boo Declan too. That unbreakable bond between The Massive and the Morecambe fans meant they could never take to Declan as a bad guy. Perhaps O'Connor's heart wasn't in it either. Maybe The Manchester Devil had realised he'd done wrong and secretly wanted to make amends.

Declan disappeared for the whole of 2010. Meanwhile, Joey forged ahead with a solo career and ended up fighting the members of a brand new tag team called The Blackpool Blonds. In many ways, Axl Rage and JD Sassoon's XWA careers began very similarly to The Massive's. Rage and Sassoon also met at wrestling school - they were training partners too. When they debuted as a team in 2009, they initially struggled to win many matches. They were cheeky, cocky, funny and entertaining. BUT, they haven't forged any kind of bond with the Morecambe fans. In fact, quite the opposite. The Blackpool Blonds have made it clear that they HATE Morecambe. Instead, they are proud of their home town of Blackpool, claiming it is much the superior North West seaside resort to its poor relation down the coast. Their arrogance and snobbery has earned them few friends or fans in the XWA.

But The Blonds, just like The Massive did, have been improving as a team and gave Joey all the trouble he could handle during their confrontations in 2010. That is, until Declan O'Connor made a shock return at Goldrush 2011 to help Joey defeat JD Sassoon. O'Connor was back, feeling guilty and regretting his actions of two years before, and wanted to apologise to Joey. Hayes wasn't quite so ready to forgive and forget his former best friend. He wasn't sure if Declan could be trusted. But eventually at XWA LastFight at the Prom 2011, Hayes returned the favour and saved O'Connor from an assault by The Blonds.

Then Joey did what all the fans of Morecambe had been hoping for. He offered Declan his hand, embraced his longtime buddy and agreed to team with him to fight The Blonds two-on-two at XWA Goldrush 2012.

It's bound to be an emotional night at The Carleton in Morecambe on Saturday February 4 2012 when The Manchester Massive reunite to wrestle together for the first time in three years, to take on their two upstart enemies from Blackpool. And despite being proud Mancunians, you can expect The Massive will be fighting firmly on the side of Morecambe!

The Blackpool Blonds are the toast of their home town after appearing in a major feature in the Blackpool local newspaper the Blackpool Gazette.

It seems that while the rest of the British Wrestling circuit hates The Blonds, Blackpool is going wild for their hometown heroes!

You can read the article here, although please bear in mind there is an error in the article, XWA Goldrush is on Saturday February 4 at The Carleton in Morecambe.

Not that there are "ALOT" of tag teams in XWA, but any chance of seeing the Tag titles come back any time soon? Maybe take over from FWA and finish off the tournament?

Bringing in tag team titles is a long standing aim of mine. It's more likely to happen in 2013 though.
