  1. The Babadook. Been meaning to watch this for ages and finally got round to it. Enjoyed it overall. Some bits made me feel genuinely uneasy, there's a real creepiness and the mum slowly losing it is unsettling but then at times it's a bit daft. I can forgive the cheapness of some of effects because what they achieved on what looks to be a low budget is impressive, it's just the fact that they used a noise from the awesome Resident Evil 1 intro multiple times (3:30 on this video. Then stay for the voiceover lad saying BARRY BURTON) took me out of the moment.
  2. These may be the loveliest few posts I've ever seen on here. We love a robin too. My wife's brother died in 2017 and her mum in 2021, both suddenly. The sight of a robin sitting on our fence or just bobbing around the garden always puts a smile on her face and brings her great comfort.
  3. I also saw Abigail over the weekend. Took it's time to get going but when it did I had great fun. Some laugh out loud parts, tense in places and didn't rely too heavily on jump scares. There were genuinely a couple of moments towards the end where I had to stop myself from clapping because the payoffs were so good. Kevin Durand as the big lummox who screams like a girl was a highlight, to the point where I was missing his character when he wasn't on screen. I made the same comparison to Ready or Not when we left the cinema, mainly the bits with the big gore explosions.
  4. I'd also recommend One Page Rules. At their core they're simplified versions of Games Workshop games, the basic rules are one page but even the expanded rules are 15 pages including intro pages so more like 8 pages of actual rules. It's also free to download and there's a free list builder on their site so put your army together so no having to buy and store loads of codex books. I think the 10th Edition Warhammer 40k rules are about 600 pages so way less time to invest actually figuring out the game. My 10th edition book is still on a shelf, I just can't face trying to get my head round it. Like Frost Grave OPR are figure agnostic so we just use my Games Workshop stuff. There's a wiki to explain what the equivalent miniatures are from other companies which is a big help but they offer official miniatures if you want. There's pre-built army lists and all sorts on there. There's large scale games the equivalent of 40k and Age Of Sigmar but the smaller skirmish games similar to Kill Team and War Cry where you only really need around 10 models each to play a game are ideal for me as I can't store hundreds of figures on the off-chance my kids will want to play a game.
  5. It's essentially a big burger loaf. Normally a mix of a couple of types of meat, sometimes with bacon across the top and a glaze/ sauce.
  6. Metal Hammer magazine posted an article on their Facebook earlier about a bloke who is a recovering alcoholic and has set up a record shop that also has a fully stocked non-alcoholic bar and coffee shop to give non-drinkers an alternative place to hang out. Pretty inspiring stuff you'd think but no, some twat comments saying that "wokeness has no place in metal" and he won't be visiting. Being teetotal is woke apparently. It's metalheads on social media, I know, I know, you should expect complete binwater opinions but this one just baffled me.
  7. Beats everything being called screamo I suppose.
  8. We went to see the new Ghosbusters at the cinema on Friday night as a family. Got our snacks and took our seats with about 20 minutes to spare before the film started. I'd got us good seats and my wife and youngest son, who are both pretty short and have had no end of cinema trips ruined because of obstructed views, both pointed out how they hoped nobody sat next to or infront of them as they had a good view of the screen and a bit of space. I went on the cinema website and started a booking for the 9 seats around and infront of us and kept refreshing it when the order timed out so they were unable to be booked if anybody turned up at the last minute and remained empty.
